Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 138: That Uncle Is So Annoying
Zoey sat up, her small form fumbling to turn on the bedside lamp.
The hospital room instantly brightened, clearly illuminating everyone’s face.
Zoey saw that Wren Sutton was still in Adrian Lancaster’s arms. She stood angrily on the hospital bed, glaring at him with a fierce pout.
"You big meanie! Let go of my mommy right now, or I’ll call the police and have them lock you in a cage!"
Adrian Lancaster’s brows furrowed deeply. His pupils contracted, and his heart felt as if it were being squeezed by an invisible iron fist. His face turned ashen, his expression uglier than ever before.
"Little one, what did you just call her?"
"Mommy." Zoey’s tone was firm, completely unafraid.
Rage shot straight to Adrian’s head. Veins bulged on his temples as he gritted his teeth, looking like he was about to explode.
’So she had a child behind my back?’
A murderous, blood-red glint flashed in Adrian’s eyes. "Wren Sutton, when did you have a child behind my back?"
Wren was speechless. "Zoey isn’t my child."
Adrian was aggressive, his furious expression looking like he could eat her alive. "If she’s not your child, why does she call you ’Mommy’?"
Wren let out a breath and explained patiently, "A while ago, I found a little girl on the street. Her parents were nowhere to be found, and I couldn’t bear to leave her all alone, so I took her to the police station. That little girl was Zoey."
Adrian remembered something about this. It was because of that little girl that Wren hadn’t been able to go to Xylos that day.
He was skeptical. "For real?"
"Of course it’s real. I have no reason to joke about something like this." Wren couldn’t be bothered to explain further. "If you don’t believe me, go to the police station and investigate it yourself."
Adrian’s sharp gaze didn’t miss a single minute expression on her face. Her earnest and certain demeanor didn’t seem like she was lying.
’Looks like this really was a misunderstanding.’
While Adrian was distracted, Wren struggled free from his embrace and returned to the bedside.
"Zoey, don’t worry. Auntie is okay."
Zoey threw herself into Wren’s arms, hugging her tightly.
"That man is so mean. He has no manners at all."
"..." A vein throbbed even more furiously on Adrian’s temple.
Wren soothed Zoey with a few words and told her a story, urging her to go to sleep quickly.
Adrian had just been on an emotional rollercoaster and needed a moment of quiet to calm down.
"When she’s asleep, come out. I have something to ask you."
「Twenty minutes later.」
Zoey was asleep. Wren tucked her in, turned off the bedside lamp, and quietly stepped out of the room.
Adrian was sitting on a chair by the door. The hallway was exceptionally quiet. There was no one else around—just the two of them.
Wren wearily broke the silence. "What do you want to ask? Ask it and get going. I need to sleep."
Adrian’s gaze burned into her, the heavy weight in his chest finally lifting.
"So, it wasn’t you who was sick, but that little girl, Zoey."
As long as Wren was okay, he couldn’t care less what happened to the little girl.
Wren said, "Yes, Zoey is sick."
"Why are you the one taking care of her? You’re not related. What’s the point of all this? You’re coming home with me tonight." Adrian thought Wren must have lost her mind.
Before she could say another word, he stood up and grabbed her, trying to pull her away.
Wren refused to move, shaking off his hand.
"Can you not be so heartless? Zoey is so little, only three years old. She’s sick in the hospital with no one to look after her. How can you be so cruel?"
"If you want to go, then go. I’m not leaving. I don’t have a heart of stone like you do."
With that, she turned to go back into the hospital room.
His face cold, Adrian strode forward and, without another word, swept Wren up into his arms.
"You’re my wife. You’re sleeping by my side tonight, and nowhere else."
Wren struggled, a sharp pain stabbing her stomach from sheer anger.
"Adrian Lancaster, have you lost your mind?! This is a hospital! Put me down!"
