Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 137: Squeezing Through the Door Gap with Her in His Arms
After listening to what Maya Marshall had to say, Adrian Lancaster’s brow furrowed even tighter. Without a moment to ask more, he hung up and ordered his driver to turn around and head for the hospital.
He hadn’t expected Wren Sutton to be at the hospital too.
’What’s wrong with her? She was perfectly fine when we parted ways yesterday.’
’Most importantly, if she was sick enough to be hospitalized, why didn’t she tell me?’
Adrian Lancaster’s face was tense, a mix of anger and worry. He immediately called Wren Sutton.
"We’re sorry, the number you have dialed is currently switched off."
「Twenty minutes later.」
The Rolls-Royce pulled up in front of the hospital’s inpatient building. Adrian Lancaster got out and headed for the main reception desk on the first floor.
"Look up which room Wren Sutton is in."
The nurse recognized Adrian Lancaster and didn’t dare to keep him waiting, immediately looking it up on her computer.
"Mr. Lancaster, we don’t have anyone by that name in the inpatient department. They might be over in the emergency department."
"Check," Adrian Lancaster said, his tone serious and tinged with anxiety.
The nurse immediately called the emergency department to inquire and quickly got an answer.
"Mr. Lancaster, there’s no admission record for a Wren Sutton in the emergency department either."
Adrian Lancaster’s imposing presence was felt without any show of anger. "Are you certain you asked correctly?"
"Y-Yes, I’m certain," the nurse answered nervously.
Adrian Lancaster didn’t make things difficult for her. He withdrew his gaze, turned, and took the elevator to Maya Marshall’s hospital room.
The first thing he asked as he pushed the door open was, "Are you sure you’re not mistaken? That Wren Sutton is in this hospital?"
Maya Marshall looked up, her tone resolute. "I’m sure."
"Which room is she in?"
A dull ache spread through Maya Marshall’s heart as she looked at Adrian Lancaster in disappointment.
’From the moment he walked in, he hasn’t said a single word of concern for me. He only cares about Wren Sutton.’
"I called you several times today, but you didn’t pick up."
Adrian Lancaster was in no mood to explain. "Just answer the question. Which room is Wren Sutton in?"
Maya Marshall grew increasingly upset, on the verge of tears. "Are you in such a hurry to know because you plan to stay with her tonight?"
Adrian Lancaster’s patience ran out. His eyes grew cold.
"I’m asking you one last time: which room is Wren Sutton in? If you don’t tell me, don’t ever expect to see me again."
Maya Marshall panicked at once, shaking her head with tear-filled eyes.
"Don’t ignore me."
"I’ll tell you right now. Wren Sutton is in the emergency department. My mom saw her go into room 5020 with her own eyes today. And she wasn’t alone, there was also..."
Before she could finish, Adrian Lancaster was gone, having already left the room.
"Adrian!" Maya Marshall cried out his name, desperately wishing she could run after him.
But the cruel reality was that she couldn’t even get out of her hospital bed, let alone run after him. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Forced to watch helplessly as Adrian Lancaster went to find Wren Sutton, Maya Marshall broke down again. Tears streamed down her face, blurring her vision.
Overcome with panicked desperation, she lost her balance and fell from the bed with a heavy THUD. Pain shot through her body, leaving her in a pathetic heap on the floor.
A shrill scream shattered the quiet of the hallway. "Help me...!"
Adrian Lancaster headed for the emergency building, the number 5020 burned into his mind.
Soon, the elevator reached the fifth floor. He hurried out and came face-to-face with Isla Griffith.
Seeing her, Adrian Lancaster was certain Maya Marshall hadn’t lied. Wren Sutton had to be in room 5020.
He had no intention of acknowledging Isla Griffith. Acting as if he hadn’t seen her, he walked straight past.
Isla Griffith blocked his path, her tone anything but polite. "What are you doing here? Who told you to come?"
As far as she knew, Wren Sutton hadn’t told Adrian Lancaster anything.
Adrian Lancaster didn’t give Isla Griffith a pleasant look either; the two had never gotten along. "It’s none of your business. Get out of my way."
"If you’re here looking for my best friend, I’ll have you know she’s already asleep and has no time to see you."
Despite her words, there was no way Isla Griffith could stop Adrian Lancaster.
Adrian Lancaster strode to the door of the room. It was locked from the inside. Unable to open it, he could only knock forcefully.
"Wren Sutton, I know you’re in there. Open the door."
Wren Sutton, who had just fallen asleep, was startled awake. When she heard Adrian Lancaster’s voice outside, she was a bit dazed and thought she was dreaming. She muttered a curse at him under her breath and closed her eyes to go back to sleep.
The knocking grew louder, and Adrian Lancaster’s voice felt like it was right next to her ear, making sleep impossible.
Wren Sutton shot up in bed. Now fully awake, she realized it wasn’t a dream. Adrian Lancaster was really, truly, right outside her door.
"..."
’That’s strange. How did he know I was at the hospital?’
Not wanting to disturb Zoey’s rest, Wren Sutton got out of bed, threw on a jacket, and reluctantly went to open the door.
The moment the door opened, before she could even speak, an arm wrapped tightly around her waist. Adrian Lancaster pulled her close as he squeezed in through the opening.
The lights were off in the room. In the moonlight filtering through the window, she could make out the man’s familiar silhouette. His crisp scent, mingled with the smell of alcohol, filled her senses, and his breath was hot against her skin.
"Why didn’t you tell me you were in the hospital?" Adrian Lancaster asked, holding Wren Sutton tight.
Wren pushed against him, deflecting his question. "You reek of alcohol. Let go of me."
Adrian Lancaster pretended not to hear her. "What’s wrong? Where are you hurting?"
Wren started, "It’s not me..."
She was cut off mid-sentence by Zoey’s childish voice.
"Mommy, who are you talking to?"
The little girl couldn’t see Adrian Lancaster’s face clearly, but she knew it was a man, and he was hugging her mommy. She was furious.
"Bad man! Let go of my mommy!"
