Chapter 194: Chapter 194 The Incident that Broke Out in the City_1

Creak~

The heavy church doors were pulled open from the inside, and a dim light shone in from outside. Three men stood behind the door, peering out. One of them made to leave, but noticing someone standing still, he seemed to think of something, and his step hung in midair without falling.

It was only after taking a few steps out of the door that Tang Ken realized that there was no one beside him.

Then, he turned back with a puzzled look, "What’s wrong with you guys?"

Behind him, Colin and Li Ming were both at the door, not having stepped out.

This gave him a sudden, rather uneasy premonition.

"It’s nothing, heh heh..." Li Ming let out a nervous chuckle. While speaking, he glanced outside twice and touched his neck, seemingly recalling the memory of his head flying off.

But before he could finish, Colin, who was behind him, suddenly lifted his leg and kicked Li Ming squarely in the butt, sending him flying out.

"Don’t delay."

Colin retracted his leg and, seeing that there was no problem with the two men, spoke with a stern face, "We still have a lot to do today."

Through the scents in the air, he could determine that there should be quite a number of people outside this dead city, and these people seemed to be acquaintances— the poor and general populace from the town they had visited before.

"It feels like a lot of people have been driven here. Was it done by that what’s-it-called First Legion of the Zoo?"

Many questions arose in Colin’s mind, like how long had passed in this world and where had the people of the First Legion gone...

He shook his head slightly and collected his thoughts, then walked toward the position of another female subordinate.

"Why didn’t you two come out just now?" Tang Ken asked in a low voice as he walked and bumped Li Ming’s shoulder, waiting for him to turn his head before asking with confusion.

"Uh, about that..." Li Ming hesitated slightly, and seeing that the boss didn’t show any signs of stopping him, briefly mentioned the event with the opening of the door and being attacked.

Of course, he didn’t go into detail about the power of the Virtue Knight, but just told him that at most he got a wound the size of a bowl and it wasn’t a big problem.

"Even if there’s a problem, the boss could easily save you, so don’t worry about it."

You’d be easily saved before your corpse rots, Li Ming silently added some details in his heart.

Tang Ken was dubious, but remembering Colin’s abilities, he didn’t doubt it much...

Compared to Li Ming, who had spent seven days lazing around in the church until the "grand finale," trying to find worms and bugs to supplement his protein, Tang Ken had seen even more of the powers of Mr. Colin, the Bonfire Agent.

However, he didn’t say much else because after they walked out of this eerie abandoned city, they saw that the barren woods were filled with people.

Colin stopped in his tracks and took a glance at them. They were a large group of short-statured, ugly and filthy-looking refugees, numbering around three hundred. Unlike what he had seen before, most of these people were draped in large red garments.

Without much thought, he knew that these must have been distributed by the what’s-it-called First Legion when they settled the refugees.

And the moment they saw him, some of the refugees seemed to have remembered something, their eyes lighting up with fervor as they called out and knelt down.

"It’s the Savior! The holy Savior of the Bonfire! The Savior sent by the Legion of God to rescue mortals!" With his cries, a dense mass of refugees knelt down.

"Ah, this..."

Colin blinked, and once these people knelt, he could even see some tags that had not been torn off the red garments, reading "Made-in-China."

"Tsk... Impressive, my country..."

Colin muttered sarcastically, then shifted his gaze to see some people who had not yet knelt—the tall, skinny young man who was the nephew and assistant to the Warden Calder, but whose name he momentarily forgot...

These people looked around at the fervently kneeling refugees, their expressions somewhat awkward.

Since everyone else was kneeling, wouldn’t it be inappropriate if they didn’t? But then again, they were knights of the kingdom!

Amidst the embarrassment, Colin shook his head subtly as a signal, then turned his gaze to the zealous crowd, raised his hand, wanting to get the people to stand up, but unfortunately, those caught in the fervor didn’t notice his gesture.

"This is... fervor indeed."

Thinking it over, Colin stealthily took out the "Ring of the Flame Master" and casually spilled some blended oil.

Immediately after, with a "whoosh", flames burst into existence, forming a huge fireball above his head.

After absorbing a portion of the Firebearer’s essence, he used this accessory; the adverse effects were greatly reduced, at most feeling like he was thrown into an oven of seventy or eighty degrees, something he could withstand for quite a while.

Meanwhile, feeling the enormous glow, everyone finally fell silent, looking at him with devout faces, waiting for him to speak.

Enduring the discomfort of being put in the spotlight, Colin spoke, "Alright, everyone stand up. Next, you will follow the arrangements made by these two."

Afterward, Colin handed over most of the supplies to Li Ming and Tang Ken, and temporarily lent them equipment like "Slave to Money" and "Gluttony Power Mark", tasking them with taking charge of this portion of refugees. He also nodded towards the Warden’s nephew, indicating that they should talk elsewhere.

Not long after arriving at another location, the Warden’s nephew couldn’t help but ask, "How come you’re here?"

"It’s quite normal for me to be here, but why are you... How long has it been since that catastrophe? What were the consequences? And what’s the situation now?"

Colin asked out of curiosity.

"About half a month has passed, fifteen days or so," answered the Warden’s nephew, puzzled by why Colin was unaware, but he quickly provided an answer.

’Fifteen days, if I calculate carefully, I indeed missed two sessions of not entering...’

Colin thoughtfully pondered, according to this situation, if he didn’t come in every Monday at noon, would this world simply skip a week’s "storyline"?

In the subsequent conversation with the Warden’s nephew, he roughly understood the situation back then.

"The First Legion" evacuated all residents from the city, then fortified the seal again, and fought against "Hunger" inside. No one knew the exact circumstances because everything was sealed off.

Outside, those Bunnies not quite as big but still about two and a half meters tall had saved them afterwards, distributed food and clothes, and then sent them to this place to find the Bonfire Sacrificial Ground.

A few days ago, the Warden’s nephew finally found this peculiar place, an area completely devoid of life, unimaginable what had transpired here.

However, during their investigation, they quickly located the Bonfire Sacrificial Ground and subsequently began to bring the people over.

As for their reason to cooperate with those people, it was simple...

Nowadays, the only place that could accommodate these refugees was "Wheat Spike City", but it was impossible for "Wheat Spike City" to accept them; the majority within the kingdom either didn’t care about the lives or deaths of the poor.

For them, just enough was sufficient—if there were too many, they would let them fight amongst themselves, if too few, they would command them to reproduce more.

The situation in "Wheat Spike City" was clearly the former.

So, if they didn’t want them to perish in the wilderness, the only solution was to settle them in this manner.

Calder and the others felt that, with the power of those people, it was unlikely they would deceive them.
