Chapter 60: Chapter 59: The Result Of Poisoning

Verbena was a part of their group. Alongside Eleanore, she also enjoyed bullying others. But suddenly, while she is doing her usual thing everyone has started going against her. Why? She is the same, it’s them that has changed. Then why must she be treated so wrongly?

"You, I and Lady Eleanore, we were in this together." She continued.

"Not anymore." Flora argued. "We are trying to change ourselves; you should do it as well." Saying this, she started helping Stella up.

Soon Caelestis also broke through the crowd and quickly rushed to Stella. Verbena was scared of seeing the grand duke entering the scene. Every time Stella was in trouble, he would be the first one to come save her. But unlike before, Eleanore who takes the damage for them is not by her side.

Verbena rushed to Eleanore and grabbed her arm. "Lady Eleanore, did I do anything wrong?" She asked, but got no reaction in return, so she continued. "Baroness Stella deserved it. She is a lowly person from a lowly background."

Caelestis could feel his anger heating up. He wanted to get up and make that woman suffer but Stella stopped him. As they got up, Stella shook her head asking him to not interfere.

Eleanore didn’t move from her place because what stood in front of her was the system window. Translucent as always and owns the worst notifications as ever.

’What kind of stupid quest is this?’

Eleanore, annoyed by this situation and the new quest, pulled her hand out of Verbena’s. It was so strong that Verbena fell on a random man behind them.

"You were wrong, Lady Verbena." She said, before walking towards Stella and securing her place next to Caelestis.

Verbena, shocked by this, remained in the arms of that random man and continued to rant nonsense. "You are doing this to get Grand duke back, right? This is your new strategy." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"Change yourself, Lady Verbena. Before it’s too late." Saying this, Eleanore almost pushes Caelestis away from Stella and leaves the banquet, along with her and Flora. While the stunned Caelestis could only follow.

Verbena, stunned by this, still remained in her place. Until the man who had caught her popped his face in front of her. He grinded, making her feel disgusted. "My Lady, do you want to go to the powder room, perhaps?" He asked.

"Shut up!" She yelled at him, as she got out of his arms and rushed to leave the banquet as well, embarrassed and full of vengeance.

A small, sinister smile appeared on someone’s face. She had been enjoying the show from the very beginning, hiding all her emotions behind her open fan. ’This is good.’ She whispered.

In The Lancaster Mansion, Victor was eagerly waiting for the result to arrive. He had skipped the royal banquet to receive the letter from the Royal Laboratory, which was supposed to deliver the results today but were late.

In the windy weather of evening, he stood un-wavered to find out if the tea was poisoned or the cup? And who was the perpetrator’s target?

He spaced out and started to walk near the gate as if he were a watchman, guarding the gate for his master.

Soon a simple looking carriage pulled over. His waiting came to an end, when the employee of the laboratory came out

"Greetings, Sir Victor." He said, recognising the renowned, great scholar of the capital.

"Greetings. The result?" Victor didn’t pay much attention to the employee. For all he cared about was the result.

He wanted to clear his doubt. He wanted to make sure that his suspicions were wrong. For the first time in his life, he wanted to prove himself wrong.

"Yes—" He pulled out an off-white envelope sealed by the red colored royal seal that belongs to the royal laboratory. "We would like to apologise for the delay. It was unintentional." He explained as he handed over the letter to Victor.

Victor ignored his words and pulled the letter from the man. "That’s fine." He said, resetting himself from opening that letter in front of him.

An official document that has arrived from the royal palace can never be opened by a mere servant. It must be opened only by his master and no one else. Thus, Victor wanted him to leave quickly, so that he could read the document.

"That—" The employee, not picking up the hint, began. " — my younger brother admires you a lot sir. Would you mind meeting him and helping him in his path to become a scholar."

Victor shifted his gaze from the letter to the employee. His eyes filled with questions.

"We, sir, come from a commoner’s family. He wants to become an advisor or secretary for a noble family like you." The employee explained thinking that the questioning eyes were meant for him. However, Victor’s eyes were only worried about the letter.

"I understand. Send him to the grand duke’s mansion. Saturday. I am mostly free on Saturdays." He spoke.

The employee shook his head in excitement and turned to climb the carriage again. He was halfway through when Victor raised a different question.

"What’s your brother’s name?" He asked.

"Derick." He answered, with a smile, "May you have a great day ahead, Sir Victor." He greeted, before leaving the lands of the Lancaster Family.

Unable to wait any longer, Victor opened the red royal seal of the royal Laboratory, then and there. He pulled out the letter from inside the off-white envelope and started to read it. As he passed through the greeting and reached the official response, his eyes widened, as a shock passed through his veins. "How is this possible? Why would anyone do that?" He thought out loud.
