Chapter 138: Chapter 137: The Weak Heart Cannot Take It Anymore

Eleanore was feeling a bit tipsy, when Caelestis’ hand slipped out of hers. She looked up and found him in the middle of the dance floor along with Stella. An unfamiliar song rang, and they started the dance.

As if everything that had happened till now was not enough that a new insult had risen in front of her. The lump in her throat grew and now she could no longer find a damn wine glass roaming around her on that boring black plate.

Her eyes fell on her brother, who was standing opposite her. His eyes hadn’t changed his temperament yet. It was still cold and distant, however now, there was a new furry addition. He looked furious and if eyes could speak, he was shouting and advising her to control her husband and ask him to stay away from his wife.

A wine glass appeared in front of her face. It was much needed at that moment.

She snatched it from whoever held it and gulped it up like any other previous glasses. "Thanks." She returned the glass to the owner.

When she saw those lovely pink hair appearing in front of her, she regretted drinking the wine at all. His beautiful lips stretched into a smile, sending shivers down her spine. Just what is he even thinking?!

"Looks like your husband left you behind." He says placing the empty glass on the table nearby.

Eleanore didn’t reply, her eyes fixed on Stella and Caelestis, acting as if enjoying the dance. She wasn’t in love with Caelestis or anything but still hated the fact that her own husband had insulted her in public. Moreover, her uncertain heart could come to hate him as much as her mind does. Thus, seeing him so in love with Stella broke it.

"He is dancing with some other woman, leaving his new wife behind and yet you say he loves you." Alastor does not stop his stream of hateful words, making Eleanore feel low, with every word. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"I am still unable to understand why you married a man like him." He moves closer to her.

"He is as rude and unworthy of your feelings as ever. When will you ever understand that?"

His every word held weight so heavy that Eleanore was failing to carry them on her fragile shoulders. If she could, she would love to run away from here but wouldn’t that show everyone that she is a weak woman, who failed to hold herself high like a noble?

Alastor holds out his hand. "How about you dance with me and see how he reacts?" he offers.

Something in her screamed to take the offer and she took it. She wanted to see the heights of his ignorance and the madness of his love for Stella.

So, she entered the dance floor with her rumored ex-lover. The crowd had completely lost it on seeing this mess forming on the stage. The amount of confusion these young couples were spreading was unimaginable. All the gossip related to these five people would be written in the history in golden.

The events of this reception party were unforgettable and would remain the stage of gossip for generations. It was highly possible that it would be passed down as the most famous stories of the love, hate and romance of the Kingdom.

"Is he looking at me?" Eleanore asked Alastor.

"No." He didn’t even care to look, for he knew Caelestis hadn’t even noticed them. If he had seen them, his fiery gaze would have told him long ago.

"Turns out it doesn’t matter." She felt like she had reached her limit in keeping this pain inside for far too long.

And if that was not enough, it just continued to build a new floor over an already demolished building of filth. She wanted to scream and shout at Caelestis, but she held it in, she didn’t want to embarrass herself or anyone else. So, she tried to remain calm.

However, it all burst when she heard a cheerful laughter from Caelestis. Her feet stopped, her eyes remained fixed on him and Stella laughed over something she didn’t know.

Perhaps, those two were laughing at her. They are laughing at how dumb she is, how helpless and lowly a person she has become. Yes, they are all making fun of her. The whole ball room. She moved her gaze to her brother, who also looked annoyed and had eyes filled with pity for her.

"Eleanore?" Alastor stepped in between her and everyone else. Yet it looked like he was even laughing at her.

Maybe she is drunk and is hallucinating. But then why does it feel so real? Why is everyone laughing at me? Why do I feel like nothing? No one? I don’t even belong to this world. Then why— why must I go through such atrocities?

Eleanore couldn’t take it anymore. Her throat had no more place to fill up for the large lump that had increased its speed of increasing its size. It felt like she could breathe anymore, as if she would exhaust all the oxygen in her chest and would die right here.

She pulled her hand out of Alastor, who looked confused, before she grabbed her ruffled gown and sprinted through the long hall. Crossing every noble she had seen today and all who were still entering the ball. Unfortunately for them, they missed the drama.

Once out of the gates of her used-to-be home, she dashed through the huge, wide spread of courtyard. As she started getting closer to the gate, she regretted everything.

She regretted her decision to ever appear at this ball, to accept that invitation that was clearly sent to her to insult her. Now, it started feeling like everything was a game, a well-planned game and all of those people inside were involved. Her brothers, Stella, Caelestis and Alastor.

They had all made this plan to insult her and make her feel low. Perhaps they found out she was not the original owner of this body and decided to have her spit out all the truth.
