Chapter 117: Chapter 116: An Odd Party!

The garden party also known as the Auction Party celebrated on the last day of the founding day celebration is a special event. This event was first planned by the third queen of Seraphine. She had planned this party with the welfare of the weaker class of the kingdom in mind.

A certain valuable object is set on the stage of the auction party. The nobles collectively bid for it and buy it for high gold currency. Which is then used a a budget for the next year for various great causes one of which being the welfare practices.

Eleanore had this idea in her mind when she set out for this party that was not mentioned once in the web novel. She was alone in her carriage, as she planned to have no partner this time and her brother was in another carriage along with Stella.

Alastor had sent a letter requesting her to be his partner for this party too, but Eleanore refused to it, as she felt betrayed by the great stunt he pulled in the opening party.

A huge crowd cheered, when Hael came out of his carriage accompanied by Stella. For some reason the whole noble society was loving their love story. They looked closer than last time, which made Eleanore wonder; Are they perhaps dating already?

The cheer, cut to half when she came down from her carriage. She gently smiled for the nobles and commoners who had gathered there to see the auction as if it were some show. Is this some kind of entertainment? She wondered.

Eleanore secured the table named as hers. The table had a single chair far away from Hael and Stella’s, who for some reason had separate tables. A label was hanging down the thin steel rod that passed though the table and was dug deep in the ground. It was decorated with white flowers. Most of the tables were decorated with that same table but few that had pairs sitting in it had red. Even the tablecloth and chair color matched those flowers.

A thick sheet of paper was hanging at the top end of the steel rod. It said; "Lady Eleanore Sinclair. Single heart, White space."

The sentence doesn’t make sense, so she peeked on the table beside her. It said, "Lady Daphne Chevalier. Single Heart, White space."

Daphne, who had just arrived, caught Eleanore peeking on her table instead of sitting on her own. She tapped on shoulder, wearing a huge smile.

"Lady Eleanore, it is considered bad manners to read the other person’s dating status." She says as a joke.

Eleanore laughs. "Ah! no. I was just surprised by the sad sentence on my Label."

Daphne felt confused. "But that was your Label last year too?"

"Was it?" She faked a laugh. "Opps, I forgot." She pulled out her chair and sat in it.

Daphne continued to look at her for a moment, before shoving away her thoughts and taking her seat.

Eleanore was having a bad feeling about this Label, the dating status. Why must it be written alongside one’s name? This is an auction party. Is this even needed?

Just then a waiter approached her and left a wine glass for her. She picked the wine glass and was about to gulp it all up at once.

"Lady Eleanore!" She was interrupted, when Lauriel called her out from the table on her left. "Are you excited?"

Eleanore didn’t know about that, but Lauriel. She sure looked excited.

"I guess." She says, moving the liquid in a circular motion to pass time.

"I just hope I find a boyfriend this time." She laughs as she passes that comment, leaving Eleanore utterly stunned.

Lauriel Thornberry moved on to calling Lady Daphne Chevalier sitting on the table to the left of Eleanore. She couldn’t quite grasp what Lauriel was saying to Daphne, for her mind had been obstructed by the word Boyfriend. She was still unable to understand that statement and assumed she was just looking for a prospective boyfriend. But why today? Why wait for a year for this party?

"Lady Eleanore?" She turned to Daphne, who had called her out.

"Yes, Lady." She placed down the wine glass without even tasting it.

"Are you going to bid for the Grand duke again?" She asks, in a cautious tone.

"Bid?" Eleanore couldn’t understand a word from that question.

"Are you not going?" Lauriel asked.

"I—um—" She was thinking of a way to answer that with the little information she had, but as if God wanted to save her the event started and the crowd went silent.

The host of the party, Sir Millain from the organizing unit that works under the orders of the queen, first welcomed the royal family. They entered the party followed by several cheers. After which the crowd went silent again to hear the entertaining jokes of the announcer.

"Ladies and gentlemen and our esteemed King and Queen and how can we forget our handsome crown prince, welcome all to the year’s most awaited party of the kingdom. The Auction Party." His tone was so joyous that it sent thrills down the audiences, as a huge cheer followed it.

"It is a pleasure to have you all here, unlike last time." He turned to a lady in the front row. "Right, Lady Esper?"

Lady Esper laughed when he pointed her out. "True, Sir Millain. I’m sure the party would have been boring last year without my presence." Everyone laughed as she joked.

"No one bit. Many gentlemen were happy to not have you here. Or else you might have stolen it all." Lady Esper cracked up at that comment. The whole atmosphere of the garden became light and happening.

However, Eleanore still remained in the dark of what was coming next. She still had no idea what Sir Millain’s sarcasms meant, and she didn’t even want to misinterpret them. So instead, she decided to wait for the host to reveal the rules himself.
