Chapter 462: Moon festival

Qie Xieling had to carry the shota away before she made trouble. "That bitch. I am going to kill mmm mmmm," yelled Jolie before her mouth was covered by Qie Xieling and dragged away.

Meanwhile, in the shadows, Xiao Fen peered her head out and bit her lower lip before disappearing. An hour later she knocked at Luo Muchen’s study softly while holding a tray.

She only entered the study when Bo Ailun opened the door. Luo Muchen was sitting cross-legged while polishing his sword. "Place it there," said Bo Ailun.

Xiao Fen’s heart skipped a beat as she knelt before her young master. Her delicate frame trembled slightly, a mix of anxiety and longing filling her peach-blossom eyes. She had always admired Luo Muchen, even though his demeanour was as cold as the winter wind.

Carefully placing the tray on the table, she mustered the courage to speak. "Master Luo," she began, her voice soft like a summer breeze, "It’s the Madam she..." Her voice died down when she recalled she was a he and a ger at that. "He left the mansion with the young girl serving him. She must have gone to the moon festival."

Luo Muchen paused for a moment, his fingers still on the hilt of his sword. His gaze seemed distant, lost in thought as he stared blankly at his sword. Xiao Fen held her breath, hoping for a glimpse of emotion, a flicker of anger beneath his stoic facade. She, like most of the people in the Lee family who supported him, wanted him to get rid of Qie Xieling as he wasn’t good for his future as a clan leader. He needed someone who could help him consolidate his power.

When Xiao Fen recalled how they consummated their marriage she bit her lip hard till it bled. The ger couldn’t even give him an heir so what use was he except to bring trouble? Xiao Fen wanted to help him. She wanted to do something for him but she didn’t know how to make it better.

"You may leave," he finally said, his voice icy and detached. Xiao Fen’s heart sank, disappointment washing over her delicate features. She hesitated, longing to bridge the gap between them, to offer solace and comfort. But she knew her place, bound by the rigid constraints of their master-servant relationship.

Lowering her gaze, Xiao Fen rose gracefully from her kneeling position, her movements as gentle as a willow swaying in the wind. With a single glance back at Luo Muchen, her eyes brimming with unspoken affection, she quietly retreated from the study.

As the door closed behind her, Xiao Fen’s heart ached with an unrequited love that seemed destined to remain forever unspoken.

Bo Ailun glanced at the door before suggesting, "Young master... Xiao Fen likes you... Why not try it out and if you like it you will take her as your concubine?"

Luo Muchen raised his head slightly and glared at him. He was well aware of her interest in him but he had no interest in her whatsoever. He wanted to marry one wife and live happily with her but now he was forced to keep this ger as a concubine and get a new wife. He wasn’t interested in being like his father or anyone else around him for that matter. His father had four concubines and there was always trouble even when there were no additional children other than Lee Ya and him.

Bo Ailun saw his expression and kept his mouth shut. He didn’t want to further aggravate him. He decided to change the subject but he only made things worse.

"The entire city would be out for the moon festival. They even have a poetry reading with several distinguished gentlemen to showcase their talent and impress suitors," he said and Luo Muchen’s fingers paused hearing that.

He suddenly sheathed his sword and said, "Let’s go."

Bo Ailun, "..."

"Young master... go where exactly?" Luo Muchen was never interested in any festivals or functions. Even when it came to family functions he would only attend the first parts before taking his leave. The elders would complain but they wouldn’t stop him because the wealth they had accumulated ever since he came into the picture was massive. Now he wanted to join in celebrating the moon festival. It was unbelievable.

Qie Xieling on the other hand had no idea that his husband was coming for him. The two of them strolled through the bustling Festival market, their senses overwhelmed by the vibrant colours and sweet aromas wafting from the various food stalls. The air was filled with laughter and joy as families and friends gathered to celebrate the enchanting festival.

Qie Xieling’s eyes gleamed with excitement as he saw all the treats being sold on the street stalls but Jolie dragged him away towards a

grand mansion with its doors swung wide open but they only allowed in people of a certain caliber.

Qie Xieling hadn’t been introduced as the new daughter-in-law of the Lee family. That’s because it was embarrassing, to say the least. The new daughter-in-law for the future clan leader was a ger not only that but a ger who was from a brothel. That would only make the Lee family the laughing stork despite ruling the entire territory.

The guard looked at Qie Xieling and was instantly mesmerized by her beauty. Since he was dressed like a woman and had makeup on he just assumed that he was a young miss new in town just for the festival. Qie Xieling and Jolie were let through the gates and they found themselves amidst a crowd of elegantly dressed young men and women.

The hall was adorned with ornate decorations, and a platform at the centre became the focal point for the evening’s entertainment. One by one, men took turns stepping forward, reciting poetry that resonated with the essence of the moonlit night.

Qie Xieling was never into poetry but even he had to admit that it was the perfect night for this event. He turned his head slightly and suddenly noticed Lee Ya from a distance. She was sitting in front surrounded by a lot of girls and young men fawning over her.

Unwilling to be noticed by her and spoil his night he half-covered his face with a folding fan, shielding himself.
