Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 361: An Image the Young Couple Can No Longer Salvage
Everyone says Commander Qin is exceptional, but his wife is just as impressive. She’s beautiful and talented. If they were men, they’d want to marry someone like her.
"Yeah, I made the dress and headband myself. The slippers have cloth soles, so they’re really comfortable and don’t chafe at all," Su Yijia explained with a smile. But when it came to whether they could learn, she held her tongue—those Aunties had left her with some mental scars last time.
"Do those slippers get sweaty? Are they easy to wash? Can you show us?" They were intrigued but had never thought of using fine grass ropes for this kind of style.
Without hesitation, Su Yijia took off her slippers, and the Aunties eagerly examined them. While the long dress was lovely, it covered too much, enough material to make a child’s outfit. They were more interested in learning how to make the grass slippers—saving money on sandals in summer would add up over a year.
"Comrade Su really pays attention to detail; most people wouldn’t think of such a complicated design," one Auntie remarked after returning the slippers. "With your looks and your talent, Commander Qin, you’ve really found yourself a wonderful wife."
Qin Kaize initially tried to hide his impatience, but upon hearing this, his eyes brightened. "Yeah, Jiajia has always been amazing," he replied casually, though his pride was evident.
The Aunties didn’t dare to tease the young couple, but they couldn’t help but look on enviously. It was no wonder no one dared to provoke Commander Qin’s wife; just look at how he watched over her, as if she were a precious jewel. He had never mingled with them before, yet now he stood close, eyes glued to his wife.
After the Aunties finished admiring her, they hesitated before pointing to a spot on the beach. "You can check over there; there are plenty of crabs, and we found a half-palm-sized abalone."
"Thanks, Auntie! We’ll go over now. The sooner we collect, the sooner we can head home before it gets dark," Su Yijia replied sweetly, hoping to regain a good image in their eyes. However, the Aunties were clearly too intimidated to linger and quickly departed.
At that moment, there wasn’t much left on the beach, but the ground was dotted with small holes, all shrimp burrows.
"Honey, you poke around with a stick over there while I keep watch," Su Yijia suggested, crouching by a smaller hole and handing Qin Kaize the spatula. She grabbed a pair of tongs to avoid getting pinched by the shrimp.
Qin Kaize took the spatula, chuckling affectionately. "Let’s just catch enough for a dish. Can your back handle bending like that?"
Su Yijia wanted to say her back was just fine, but as soon as she straightened up, she winced. She shot a glare at her husband, whose smug smile was infuriating. "If it weren’t for you, would I be in this state?"
She had always heard about fields that didn’t wear out, only cows that got exhausted, but no one had ever told her that her back could be the first to give out. "It’s so unfair! Why am I the one getting sore from this?"
"Okay, my bad! Tonight, I’ll massage your back with some healing lotion," Qin Kaize said, leaning in to kiss her on the lips when no one was watching. His eyes sparkled mischievously.
Su Yijia was startled, her heart racing. "You’re so bold," she murmured, feeling anxious about potential consequences.
"Don’t worry; I’ll keep an eye out; no one will see," he assured her, noticing her pale expression and feeling guilty.
"Just be careful; don’t get caught," Su Yijia cautioned, still shaken. Yet they leaned closer again, continuing to dig for shrimp.
After the storm, the beach had been flooded, so many shrimp and clams had come up to burrow. Su Yijia loved seafood, so she was determined to catch both shrimp and clams, the latter being easier to find. Just a sprinkle of salt into a hole would send the clams shooting up in no time.
After three hours of digging, they had thoroughly checked the sandy beach, collecting enough clams for braising and a plate of shrimp for stir-frying, saving the rest for marinating. Su Yijia even retrieved various seafood from her space to marinate together. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Qin Kaize wanted to stop her, but with her cuddled up to him and coaxing him sweetly, he couldn’t say no. Her soft voice was filled with a hint of a pout, like a child wanting a treat.
Completely smitten, he willingly carried a large bowl of marinated seafood to the kitchen to borrow a refrigerator from the chef.
For the next few days, Su Yijia enjoyed reading while snacking on the delicious marinated seafood. By the time she finished, Qin Kaize had wrapped up his lessons with Uncle Lian.
Then she switched to enjoying other seafood dishes. Luckily, seafood was a great source of protein, so she wouldn’t gain weight, especially with the help of Spirit Spring Water.
They spent the next week relaxing, and during that time, Fang Xuewei visited with her two daughters, bringing pastries as a way of apology and gratitude.
Even though Xia Weiguo and Qin Kaize hadn’t helped them directly, it was because of the three of them that Old Mrs Niu had been so easily sent away. So no matter what, they were determined to express their gratitude.
