Rise of The Strongest Monarch-Chapter 86: Only Death Awaits [1]
I probably shouldn’t have relied on celeste to help me with that but this isn’t the time to second guess things. Only death awaits me if I just stand around and watch.
So I won’t wait around for it to take me.
As I stare ahead I begin to realize that she is already gone and the sound of Airi’s sword slashing through the air is all I can hear. The fight is continuing on as if I never tried to help in the first place.
My attention shifts towards the sound of the fight as I can still see what’s happening.
Blood is dripping down from Zeno’s chest and Airi has also taken quite a bit of damage herself. Yet, both of them continue to push through the fight as if nothing is wrong.
I lift my sword up once more and prepare to rush in towards her.
"We really need to be careful here," Celeste warns.
You didn’t think so before? I have never seen so much damage done to a light bearer before so I don’t know what that’ll mean for me.
Right now it means she is definitely a lot stronger than they imagined as well.
"Like I said before, hybrids have ranks so it is only natural that they’ll be stronger," Celeste responds.
It just means we have to keep helping until she goes down, no other way to go about it.
FWOOOSH!!!
I rush towards her once again, bringing my blade up towards her with haste.
Within seconds of it coming close to her, she blocks the blade with her claw. A surprised look on her face once again as she finds me in front of her.
I continue to try to push through her defense as she just stares back at me.
"I don’t have time for you right now," She says with a serious expression on her face.
Grunt.
Swing!!!
I just barely manage to break her defense for a moment and immediately bring my sword down.
SLASH!!!!
Right across her chest, dealing plenty of damage this time without any sort of push back. At least I thought the damage was plenty... Until her wounds begin to close.
This isn’t the time to be standing still while she heals, attacking her now is the best opportunity I’ll get.
I step back and then swing my sword towards her once again, feeling the wing behind it as I get closer to her.
SLASH!!!!! SLASH!!!!!!
Without any hesitation I swing my sword twice across her chest, slowing down some of the healing.
PIERCE!!!!!! BURST!!!!!!!!!
A burst of light blows out through her back as I notice Airi standing next to me now as well, her sword through the girls chest. Burns also begin to appear all around the wound where Airi’s sword is still inside her.
The girl coughs up a bit of blood before looking back towards Airi.
"You really are annoying, you know that?" She speaks with pain in her voice.
"And you are just another monster to be slain," Airi responds with a serious tone.
This definitely feels like a moment where the fight should be over yet I don’t think it actually is.
Grasp!
She grabs hold of Airi’s shoulder and immediately begins to dig her claws into her.
SLICE!!!!!
I don’t even think about it as I slice through her arm, leaving her hand to fall onto the floor.
Thud.
The girl stumbles back, crying out in pain as she looks towards me once again. More of a confused look sits on her face as she grasps for where her hand once was.
Airi already took her sword out from the girl and is preparing to strike again.
RUMBLE!!!!!!! RUMBLE!!!!!!!!!!
Everything around us begins to shake for what feels like an eternity as the sounds of zierel climbing down the walls is echoing all around.
I really didn’t think that was more zierel coming down into the pit but I guess that makes sense. They are coming to reinforce the hybrid here it seems.
Fighting a bunch of them plus a hybrid like her sounds more and more like suicide than anything else here.
Shit. Shit. Shit. What can we do in this situation with two of them being injured from the fight already. Airi is still staring at the girl too so she is obviously going to finish her off.
But will put strength be enough to handle an army of zierel coming for us?
Don’t be dumb, of course it will. I killed a bunch of them by myself in one go so I’m sure it’ll be fine.
I don’t even hear Airi dash or run or anything as her sword slices right through the girl, cutting her in half.
Thud!!
Her top half of her body hits the ground as Airi looks down at her and then back towards me.
STAB!!!!
Airi slams her sword down into her skull as the movement from the girl no longer seems to exist. Not long after the other half of her body falls over, but now zierel are lurking everywhere.
Footsteps break the silence for a moment before I realize it is just Amelia. She made it over to us without a problem but there is definitely a lot of red eyes in the shadows.
"So how do we get out of this?" Amelia asks with concern in her voice.
"By killing," I answer with a serious tone.
"Killing is definitely the only way we make it through this today," Airi agrees.
It takes a few seconds but even Zeno is standing with us now, quite a bit of scratches on him from the fight. His leg looks the worst out of any of the wounds he got.
"I definitely still got some fight in me," Zeno says while spinning his pistols around.
You’d think that this would be enough to scare someone, but I guess I’ve gotten used to it. The feeling like death is just going to take me at any moment.
But I think I’m confident that we’ll be the ones delivering death this time.
"If it was more hybrids... You’d all die with the fatigue everyone probably has, but it is just the standard zierel," celeste mentions calmly.
It does feel a bit odd that all of these standard ones just came crawling back here like this. Shouldn’t we have seen more in the pit if this place is such a big deal, especially with a hybrid like we fought?
"Standard zierel like the ones you’ve killed don’t always think when it comes to the places they go. This might’ve just been a reaction effect from the screeching of the bigger one that the girl came out of," Celeste explains.
I take a look around after she tells me that, taking in the amount of eyes staring at us from all directions.
The streets of amadon were also quite empty which is odd, so why are there so many here now? Even if they got called from the big monsters from before... They would’ve taken awhile to even get here, yet alone hearing it.
We’re deep within a pit and the only on a that would hear such a screech would have to be here in Amadon with us.
Is the city filled with a lot more zierel than we originally thought? That would be the only logical conclusion I can make from all of this.
"Actually you’re right. The screech wouldn’t have brought my kind from far away, only those nearby," celeste agrees.
So this city might be a potential hub for the zierel in this area....
"Airi I don’t think we can fight the entirety of Amadon," I speak up while keeping a calm tone.
"Huh, what are you talking about Liam?" Airi questions in confusion.
"I think the entire city of Amadon is a hub for the zierel in this area," I answer confidently.
She looks back towards Zeno.
"Honestly that would make a lot of sense Airi," He says casually.
"So we definitely need to clear a path. Fighting an entire city is definitely not something we can handle right now," Airi speaks with a serious expression on her face.
"How are we going to do that?" Amelia questions.
She’s got a pretty good question there since we also have to climb back up as well. Climbing while fighting isn’t exactly the most ideal situation to be in...
I know I definitely don’t have any tricks up my sleeve to help us get out of this predicament.
Teleportation would be a pretty useful power to have right about now, but that is not part of my luck. Unless... Aether didn’t tell me about anything with that but I doubt it.
"His sword is the source of power being given to you for your awakening so I doubt it’ll be anything else," Celeste says confidently.
I appreciate you shutting down my hopes and dreams of having teleportation Celeste.
It still leaves us in a terrible position.
