Chapter 451: Arranging Marriage

Ezra vanishes, reappearing in the air above where he proceeds to release a massive portion of his energy in an outburst, creating a burst of colours in the sky around them.

Ezra’s display of energy ignited the sky with radiant hues, the sheer intensity of his power sending ripples through the air.

The swirling colors—blues, reds and gold—danced, illuminating the cracked ground and casting long shadows across the scorched battlefield.

Those below had to slightly shield their eyes from its blinding brilliance.

The vibrant energy lingers for several seconds before slowly dissipating, leaving behind a stillness that was almost deafening.

Ezra lands lightly on the ground, brushing off his coat with an air of nonchalance.

"Grand enough for you, Johan?" he asked with a smirk, his voice teasing but carrying a hint of challenge.

Johan’s mouth hung open for a moment before snapping shut.

"Okay, now that was impressive," he admits begrudgingly, though his face betrayed a look of amazement.

"Anyways, how have you all been?" Ezra questions.

"We have training and suffering everyday to get a bit stronger and eventually reach the Transcendent rank" Theron states, scratching his head. "But we’ve hit a wall, none of us can use mana to increase our strength anymore"

Ezra nods with a knowing face. "That’s to be expected, mana becomes useless once you reach the Transcendent rank"

The siblings all burst into gasps simultaneously.

"Really?"

"So that was why!"

Exclaiming, Ezra gestures for them to calm down.

"I’m here to solve such problems. We will leave this planet within a few hours. It’s time for you guys to come and see the universe I keep talking about" he pauses, looking through the dome to find no one there.

"Do you know where Mervida and Deneris are?"

Velora nods, "Mrs. Mervida went back to Iris. She said she had to take care of your subjects and try to rebuild her kingdom"

"Hmm...I guess I will leave her to do that then. What about Deneris?"

Theron shakes his head. "He left to train elsewhere, probably another continent. He said something about needing to improve his technique"

"I see" Ezra responds, vanishing instantly.

"What an annoying ability" Johan remarks.

On cue, Ezra reappears, holding onto an extra person this time.

Flailing to get away from Ezra’s grasp, Deneris wore an expression of befuddled.

"What? What just happened?" he shouts, before his eyes dart over the familiar figures of the siblings. "Why are you kids here?"

Ezra lets go of his clothes, leaving Deneris to hastily create distance before observing the face of his attacker while taking a fighting stance.

"It’s you!"

"Yes. It’s me, Ezra. I came to get you, it time to head into the universe"

Instantly, the atmosphere cools and the tension dies out, with Deneris dropping his guard.

But his annoyance did not cease.

"Why didn’t you just say all this before grabbing me?"

Ezra shrugs in response, before turning his back on them. "I’m off to find Vanessa"

And with this, he vanishes once more.

In response, Roxanne facepalms. "He’s become even more whimsical"

The others collectively sigh.

—-------

Ezra reappears in another familiar building.

The Royal Academy.

Speaking of which, the other academy founded by Black Jaws had come into full swing, teaching and training commoners into a batch of elite individuals.

The next instant, Ezra reappears inside a spacious but cluttered office.

The scent of old parchment and freshly inked quills linger in the air, mingling with the faint metallic tang of mana lingering from the enchantments woven into the room’s structure.

Sunlight filtered through tall, arched windows, casting golden beams onto shelves crammed with scrolls, books, and odd trinkets of magical significance.

At the center of it all sat Headmistress Elisa, her desk barely visible under the mountain of paperwork stacked precariously high.

Her brow furrows as she shuffles through documents with hurried precision, muttering under her breath.

A delicate teacup sat forgotten to one side, the liquid inside long cold.

Ezra’s sudden appearance startled her so much that she nearly upset the closest stack of papers.

"Who are you, and how did you get in here?" she demanded, her voice sharp as her hand hovered near the rune-etched bell on her desk—a failsafe meant to summon help in case of emergencies.

Ezra grinned, unbothered by the tension in her tone. "Mrs. Elisa, I’m hurt. Have I changed so much that you don’t recognize this face anymore?"

Her sharp eyes narrowed as she straightened her glasses, peering at him more intently.

Her lips pursed, her mind racing to connect the dots.

There was something hauntingly familiar about him—particularly his voice.

Recognition slowly dawned on her face.

"Ezra?" she finally asked, her voice tinged with disbelief.

He spread his arms wide, his grin widening. "The one and only. I’m glad to see you still remember me."

Elisa sighed heavily, leaning back in her chair and rubbing her temples. "Ezra, you cannot simply appear in people’s offices unannounced. I nearly activated every defense ward in this building"

She had been thoroughly spooked.

"Apologies for the fright" Ezra chuckles, the sound light and unrepentant.

"Alright, out with it. Why are you here" Elisa speaks, holding her head as she could already feel a headache coming on with this boy’s presence.

"I’m looking for Vanessa"

Elisa’s eyes sparkle at such words as she raises her brows. "Vanessa? What for?"

"Oh, since she’s a Transcendent now. I intend to invite her to explore the outer universe, only if it’s interests her of course"

"Is that so?"

The unusual tone had Ezra taken aback.

’Did I say something wrong?’ he wonders, doing a double take before replying.

"Yes ma’am"

Right then, the door swings open, revealing two people—both familiar figures.

One is the fabled Vanessa, a bit taller than before with a more...eh, nicer figure *cough* and the second...

"Mother?!"

...Is Ezra’s mother.

His head darts between his mother and Mrs. Elisa in bewilderment before quickly changing his expression.

"Mother~, it is truly delightful to see you..."

But his mom was having none of it.

"Don’t you mother me! You come back after months from who knows where and you couldn’t even look to say ’hello?’"

"Mother, you misunderstand. I’m here aren’t I? Of course I came to see you—

"He’s lying" Mrs. Elisa succinctly adds, "He came searching for Vanessa"

Ezra recoils as a different kind of fury arises within him as he glares at the headmistress.

A seasoned veteran, Mrs. Elisa doesn’t even act like she could see him.

Ezra felt a chill run down his spine as his mother’s piercing gaze bore into him.

Her arms crossed, and her foot tapped rhythmically on the polished floor.

Ezra smiled nervously, raising his hands in a placating gesture. "Mother, please. I was going to visit you next. You know how busy I’ve been managing... universal matters."

"Universal matters?" she echoed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "You mean running around causing trouble and ignoring your poor mother?"

Mrs. Elisa coughed lightly, barely concealing her smirk. "Mrs. Kiara, it seems your son’s priorities lie elsewhere. Specifically, with my daughter, Vanessa."

Ezra’s eyes widened in betrayal. "Mrs. Elisa, why are you making it worse?!"

"Oh, don’t drag me into your excuses," Elisa replied smoothly.

"And while we’re on the subject, Vanessa, when do you plan on settling down? It’s high time you start thinking about a family."

Vanessa, who had been quietly observing the chaos, suddenly stiffened. "Mother, I think this is hardly the time—"

"Nonsense!" Mrs. Elisa cut her off, her tone firm. "This is exactly the time. And yet, here you are, still single. Do you plan to grow old in this academy?"

Ezra chuckled softly, but his amusement was short-lived as his mother turned her fiery gaze back to him.

"And you, Ezra! When will you settle down? I’m not getting any younger, you know. I want to see my grandchildren before I’m too old to spoil them properly."

"Grandchildren?" Ezra’s voice cracked. "Mother, I just got back. Can’t we discuss this later?"

"Later? You always say later," she shot back, her voice rising. "Do you know how many eligible young women I’ve had to turn away because you’re always off on some adventure?"

"Eligible young women?" Ezra echoed, looking genuinely alarmed. "Mother, I don’t even know these people! How could you—"

"I did it because you refuse to take responsibility for your future!" she interrupted, throwing her hands in the air dramatically.

"You’re not a boy anymore, Ezra. You should start thinking about family, or do you want me to die without my grandchildren even once?!"

"Ehm, Mother—

Mrs. Elisa chimes in again, clearly enjoying the spectacle.

"It seems we share the same plight, Mrs. Kiara. Perhaps we should arrange something between our children. They’re both Transcendents, after all. It’s a perfect match."

"Hey, hey, hey hey!" Ezra shouts in protest. "You can’t just decide something like that on a whim!"

"Why not?" his mother says with a dramatic sigh.

"Vanessa is a wonderful young lady, and you’re clearly not capable of finding someone yourself. We’re simply helping you along."

Mrs. Elisa nods, winking to the other party. "And Vanessa, Ezra is a fine man. Handsome, powerful, and with quite the... unique personality. It could be much worse."

Ezra feels a surge of panic as his mother steps closer, her eyes shimmering with determination.

"Ezra, darling, think of how adorable your children will be. Little bundles of joy with Vanessa’s grace and your... energy."

"Mother, please stop," Ezra said, his voice rising. "This conversation has gone completely wrong"

"Not at all, Ezra. I have been meaning to talk to you about this for a long time"

Ezra’s eyes dart left and right, panicking inwardly as the urgency to escape rose higher than ever

Before anyone could react, he springs and grabs Vanessa’s hand.

"Wait, what are you—" Vanessa’s protest was cut off as the world around them blurs.

In the blink of an eye, they vanish, leaving both mothers standing in stunned silence.

After a few seconds, Mrs. Elisa makes a remark, thoroughly flabbergasted.

"Well, that was unexpected"
