Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 401: Water Dragon
Roar.
Roar.
The sound of zombies roaring inside and outside the testing center filled the air. Zombies were packed so densely in the corridor that water wouldn’t even be able to trickle through them.
Leng Pan threw her eyes towards the nearby window and the dense mass of zombies visible from the third floor stretched past the gates of the testing center and into the streets.
The streets were so packed that she could already imagine how difficult it would be to curve a path out of there.
However, today was different. She had no plans of just finding a way to leave the center. She had every intention of eliminating every last zombie in that place.
They had been training long enough and it was time for their team to put their skills to the test.
If they couldn’t clear out the zombies there, then it would be a pipe dream to think about eliminating the aliens from their planet.
"Listen up everyone. Today we are not surviving. We are taking out every last zombie here. Today we are not leaving a single zombie standing. Don’t look at the zombies like enemies that should be feared no matter how strong they are. Look at them as resources for you to grow stronger. Look at them as crystal cores you can use to advance your ability or exchange for supplies. So, when you begin fighting later, don’t fight like you are liberating humanity from the zombie apocalypse. Fight like it is your only opportunity to continue living a dignified life." Leng Pan knew that such pep talks before a major battle have a significant effect in boasting morale. That’s why she said those words right before the battle broke out.
"Yes, Commander." The teammates shouted in unison and some were already rushing towards the nearest zombies while brandishing their weapons in their hands.
"No matter how fired up you are, don’t leave this floor for now." Leng Pan instructed those already taking action.
Unlike humans, zombies lacked cognitive abilities. Unless they had someone or something controlling them like the zombies they encountered before during the extreme cold in the convenience store, they couldn’t make any sound decisions.
They usually followed masses. Wherever there was a large number of humans, many zombies would be attracted by their scent and pool around them to feast. If they don’t get a share of the human meat, they would eat other weaker zombies around them.
Because the third floor was filled with humans, even the zombies outside the building could smell their scent and we’re pushing those in front to gain access to the building.
In that case, no matter how many they killed on the third floor, more would come in.
Leng Pan thought that it would be a good idea to use the narrow entrance from the stairs as a barrier to make sure that an overwhelming number of zombies doesn’t surround them.
If they stayed on the third floor, they could take turns killing the zombies. Once one group ran out of strength, another group would take over because the zombies would not stop trying to get to them.
Even if this method took a long time, it was safer than going outside to the open to be surrounded on all sides by hungry zombies.
Seeing how eager her teammates were to kill zombies, Leng Pan realized that she had restricted them too much. They were hot blooded and wanted to fight, yet she had been focusing on training them. Now, they felt like horses that had been let loose.
Even the usually composed Juan Ke picked up his sword and joined the battle.
Zombies pooled into the corridor from the stairs, some falling to the ground and getting stampeded on because those behind them were in a hurry to feast on the humans just a few meters away from them.
Those with metal superpowers threw knives formed in thin air and stabbed at the zombies. The lucky ones got the head and the zombie would drop to the ground. The unlucky ones stabbed other body parts, which had no effect on the zombies since they felt no pain.
Those with fire ability threw fireballs. Unfortunately, their fire wasn’t as intense as Lu Zhen’s and it burned the zombies slowly, causing them to move around.
The upside in this is that while moving around and trying to extinguish the fire, the zombies ended up lighting others up. Hence, a large group would eventually be burned to death.
The fire spread to the other zombies that had been decapitated and fallen to the ground, burning them as well and leaving skeletons behind.
Leng Pan had put up an ice wall between the part of the corridor where the battle was happening and the area near the door of the lounge area.
Her dragon had completely eliminated the zombies there and those waiting to join the battle were resting there. It was also the spot where those who were tired retreated to rest and recover their strength while others took over.
This separation of space also ensured that the fire burning the zombies didn’t spread to the people outside the battlefield.
When it was Lu Zhen and Leng Pan’s turn to join the battle, they stepped forward without hesitation.
They wanted to finish the battle quickly, so Leng Pan formed the dragon she had taken back earlier and directed it to swallow zombies whole and melt them before swallowing the crystal cores into its stomach. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Lu Zhen formed a long sword with his crimson red flame and used it as a weapon. This was more effective than his usual sword.
With a slash, he brought the sword down and across in front of him and more than a hundred zombies that had made it to the third floor were cut in half.
What’s more, they were ignited by his flames that couldn’t be extinguished and burned to ashes within a few breaths.
Because Lu Zhen and Leng Pan eliminated the zombies in large batches, the speed at which the zombies climbed the stairs and rushed in increased.
