Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 400: Naive Humans
"Let’s leave this place. We already got what we came for, so we should start our journey back." Leng Pan ordered and everyone began packing.
Because AA was no longer there, it seemed that the barrier blocking access to the third floor had been lifted and zombies began rushing towards the lounge where the scent of humans could be felt.
"It seems that we will have to fight our way out. Everyone get ready. It is going to be a long battle." Lu Zhen instructed those preparing to leave and the atmosphere in the lounge shifted.
Before Leng Pan’s team could finish packing, those modified humans who seemed to have recovered their humanity walked over to Leng Pan and Lu Zhen and simultaneously knelt down.
"Thank you, benefactor for freeing us from our own created prison. But now we don’t know where to go. With everything happening now, we don’t even know where our families are or whether they are still alive. Can you please take us in? We have the ability to fight. So, we will not hold you back." The woman who was the first to shift and regain her humanity because of her son spoke for the others.
Leng Pan was a bit skeptical and didn’t want to bring them back to the base. They were a danger because she wasn’t sure whether the aliens who had modified them had left a back door to the program.
What if their programming could be reset? Then won’t she be bringing the enemy to their camp? She couldn’t take such a risk.
However, she didn’t want to chill the hearts of these people who had escaped slavery and make them turn dark. What if they decided to fight against them? Even though she and Lu Zhen were powerful, it didn’t mean they wouldn’t suffer a loss if they faced such powerful opponents.
"Okay, we will take you out of here, but if you are from this city, I think I might have an idea of where your family might be. I will drop you guys off at the military base where most of the survivors went to seek shelter. However, don’t let your guard down once you reunite with your families. Please investigate secretly if there are any inhumane activities going on at the base. I suspect that they might be conducting human experiments. So, while your main goal is to reunite with your families, don’t forget the side mission." Leng Pan couldn’t tell them outright that she was worried about them becoming traitors and enemies, so she covered it up as them reuniting with their families and also going to the base undercover.
In this way, these modified humans won’t lose purpose in life and begin doing things that would anger both man and God with their abilities.
If they had something important to focus on, like an investigation, they wouldn’t get distracted and commit atrocities.
"Thank you benefactor for trusting us with such an important mission. We promise not to let you down." The group sang in unison.
"Just be careful while you are investigating. Don’t put yourself in danger. The mission is important, but your lives are more important." Leng Pan emphasized.
This was the strategy of giving sweets to entice people.
Just by showing concern for their wellbeing and not treating them like another test subject moved them to tears.
"Thank you for your concern Commander. We will definitely be careful." This time they changed the way they addressed Leng Pan. It was an indication that they had accepted her as their leader and would follow her instructions and orders.
This time, even Lu Zhen was surprised. He hadn’t expected these people to be so naive. No wonder they were cheated into joining such a dangerous experiment.
All his wife did was show some concern for them, something even a stranger would get. Yet it made them so happy that they nearly pledged their lives to her.
If more people were like this in the apocalypse, then the situation was worrying.
Aliens were cunning and could mimic human form. If some aliens changed their appearance and showed some kindness to such people, how many would be invited into the house by clueless humans?
However, nothing could be done about this now because if they said anything, then these humans would think that Leng Pan was just using them as tools and wouldn’t be devoted any more.
"Alright, if everyone is packed, let’s go. Baby, can you have your dragon clear the door first? Otherwise we won’t even have the space to fight once the door is opened." Lu Zhen asked his wife who smiled at him and replied slyly.
"Sure, hubby." Leng Pan began making gestures with her hands and soon, a small dragon appeared again.
One could tell that it was the earlier dragon that had been clearing the way for them when they came.
It behaved just like before as if it had a spirit and bowed to Leng Pan first before squeezing out through the small gap at the bottom of the door.
Soon, roars of zombies, clashing and thudding could be heard outside the door.
No one knew what was going on outside except for Chu Miao, the owner of the dragon, and Lu Tao, who could see through walls. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Once the corridor outside the lounge was nearly empty, Leng Pan asked everyone to start moving.
She opened the door and found her dragon had grown a size larger than earlier when she first made it.
It was so big that its tail was near the door of the lounge while its head was inside a room, almost twenty meters away.
Some zombies had entered the room because it still carried the scent of the modified humans who had lived there before.
They must have thought that there was still someone inside and they could have a meal.
Too bad they turned into the dragon’s meal instead.
"Wow! Sister-in-law, your dragon has become bigger!" Lu Tao said in exaggerated shock when he saw the water dragon.
