Chapter 382: Chapter 382: Leaving The Unfeeling Family

Back in the building, Leng Pan explained their plan to the others who weren’t there when they were recruiting the new group.

She also cautioned them about the possibility of aliens mixed into their groups and replacing an actual member.

"Lu Tao, when we get back, you better work harder on the device that can identify aliens, otherwise, our base is going to be overtaken by those creatures." Leng Pan urged her brother-in-law.

"Yes, sister-in-law." Lu Tao replied with a mock salute. But he was already planning in his head how to improve the device he had made so that it could detect an alien immediately if they appeared within a hundred meters of it.

At first he had thought that as long as there was a device that could detect aliens, then that’s okay because when they went out to search for supplies, they would be able to determine where the aliens are and decide whether to fight or avoid them.

However, the two incidents where aliens disguised themselves and mixed with humans had taught him that his plan was not enough.

They had to make sure that aliens didn’t invade their base.

"It’s almost morning, so you guys can’t leave at this time.

Wait until the sun sets before you leave and go get your families." Leng Pan advised when she realized that it was almost 4:00 in the morning.

The sun would be rising in an hour. There wasn’t enough time for the team members who had just been recruited to go back and gather their families.

"What about those zombies outside?" The half-sister of the arrogant girl asked.

She had realized that Leng Pan didn’t seem to have any plans of getting rid of the zombies there.

"Those are our guards. If we get rid of them now then other survivors show up here and decide to occupy this building, then we will have to either share the space or if they are unreasonable, we will have to fight for it.

I don’t have that kind of time and energy. If they have the ability, let them come in with so many zombies guarding the building." Leng Pan explained.

"No one would be unreasonable enough to want to fight with us for this space, right?" Someone from the other team asked.

Leng Pan looked at that person then turned to the girl who was still curling up in a corner alone as if she wasn’t there.

Everyone immediately understood. There were indeed unreasonable people in the world. If that unreasonable and arrogant girl hadn’t witnessed Leng Pan and the others’ strength, she would probably still be climbing on their heads with her entitled behavior.

Luckily, Leng Pan’s team didn’t show her any mercy, completely cutting off any behavior that might inconvenience them from her.

"Are you sure you won’t say goodbye to your mother?" Leng Pan walked over to the half-sister and sat beside her as she asked.

"Yu Xiang." The girl said.

Leng Pan raised an eyebrow at her statement.

"That’s my name. And no, I don’t plan on saying goodbye. She probably wishes that with every trip I make to look for supplies, I don’t go back.

Why would I insist on shoving my face on someone’s cold butt?

Since she isn’t thrilled to have me, then I will disappear." Yu Xiang said sadly.

She had spent years trying to please her mother, so that she would be accepted.

So that her mother would give her a kind look. So that her mother would at least say that she was proud of her.

But no matter what she did, whether it was getting aces in exams in school, or even working hard to pay for her own tuition, her mother never saw her effort.

She would just say that she wasn’t as sensible and as likable as her younger sister.

Then she would leave her younger sister to her mother.

"Well, you have a new family now. In our base, everyone is family. We look out for each other. So, you don’t have to be sad about losing your family." Leng Pan tried to comfort You Xiang the best way she could.

"It’s much better than that cold home." Yu Xiang said with a relieved smile.

It was as if she had finally let go of a heavy burden she had been carrying.

The other team members mingled and got to know each other as the sun rose.

When it was time for breakfast, the teammates Leng Pan had brought from the base immediately took out the rations they had prepared for breakfast.

Some had noodles, others carried oats, others had MREs, and others cakes and biscuits.

It was a variety and they even shared where one picked something from another person as long as they craved it but did have any.

It really gave off the atmosphere of a big family.

The others who had just been recruited could only swallow saliva because the reason they got noticed in the first place was because they were fighting over the fact that they were running out of food and water and wanted someone to go out and search for something to eat.

Leng Pan looked at them, then gave the others a look.

With one look, they understood what she meant, thus, they happily invited their new teammates to eat.

At first, they were shy, but when they realized that the others didn’t really mind sharing, they were over the moon and relaxed.

The arrogant girl was the only one left out.

Her old teammates left the remaining food ration for her to eat so that she wouldn’t complain about starving.

Unfortunately, the dry rations couldn’t compare to what the others were eating.

Those who needed hot water got hot water from Leng Pan.

Those who wanted ice got ice. It was a life that only reminded one of the apocalypse because of the roars and growls of zombies and the hot temperatures.
