Chapter 380: Chapter 380: Sending Part of the Team Back to the Base

The number of zombies kept shrinking and at the same time, those in the middle also got an opportunity to find an escape route.

Leng Pan seemed to understand their intentions and a path made of spiritual mist appeared that separated zombies into two sides, leaving a path for them to leave in.

They carried the injured ones and found a spot a distance away from the battlefield before laying their comrades on the ground.

One of them took out a green solution he had received before leaving the base and had those injured take it orally and poured some on their open wounds.

He didn’t know if it works, but he had been told that the solution was a type of medicine their leaders created and it works like a charm.

He hoped that it worked as said, because if not, then some of them would be mutating soon.

Those without injuries didn’t stay idle. After settling their companions and leaving one person to guard them, they joined the battle and soon, the zombies had been eliminated.

"Gather the crystal cores." Lu Zhen said after setting the corpses on fire.

Once they were burnt to ashes, they won’t have to dig into the brains just to extract the crystal cores. They would naturally fall to the ground and they could easily collect them.

"What happened?" Leng Pan walked over to check on the injured teammates and make sure the zombie virus had been killed by the spiritual spring water mixed with herbs and wouldn’t mutate.

"We don’t know either. We found that store over there and realized that it has a lot of supplies.

We went in and gathered the supplies and filled our bags, but there was still a lot left.

We were discussing how to handle them when we realized that there were many zombies outside the store.

We also realized that if we didn’t leave immediately, we might not be able to if we stayed longer.

So, we took our bags and planned to leave, only to realize that there were more zombies than we thought once we stepped outside.

We had no choice but to put our bags back into the store and fight. But the more we fought, the more zombies came.

By the time we came to our senses, we were completely surrounded and some of us were hurt.

We had no choice but to launch that signal flare." The leader of the group recounted what had happened.

"That sounds like a trap." Leng Pan said.

"Probably, probably not." Lu Zhen replied.

"Anyway, it’s fine now. Go get your bags.

Well go back to the place we found. You can rest there while the others recuperate.

You will go back to the base with a few new teammates we just recruited.

Take the supplies you found with you." Lu Zhen said as he surveyed the area.

He didn’t believe it was completely a trap because no one showed up even after the battle.

Maybe it was the same alien as before, but Lu Zhen had already burnt it so it couldn’t come and check the trap even if it wanted to.

"Okay, we will do as instructed." The leader agreed immediately.

It wasn’t that he was cowardly, but he was instructed by Juan Ke to never question Lu Zhen or Leng Pan’s orders no matter what.

So, even when he was sent back mid-mission, he still didn’t argue.

Leng Pan walked into the store and indeed found that compared to the other shops she had noticed that only had a few supplies, this one was loaded.

In fact, she was now sure it had been a trap because it seemed like some of the supplies had been carried there after the extreme cold.

However, the person who did that or the aliens had done them a favor.

They won’t have to go collecting too many supplies from other shops.

They could leave the fewer supplies left in those shops to the other survivors who might show up in that town in the future.

However, this was only one side of the town, Leng Pan wondered if the alien had done the same in other sides of the town to set multiple traps.

"Are you able to defend yourselves from the few sporadic zombies that might show up later? We have to go check on the other group.

If there was a trap here, there could be traps in other places." Leng Pan asked because she was now worried.

She didn’t know how the alien had attracted the zombies to one place, but she didn’t doubt its ability.

"Yes, we can defend ourselves. You can go and check on the others." Leng Pan was reassured when she heard that and left immediately with Lu Zhen.

The two had just been gone for two minutes when Leng Pan stopped in her tracks.

Lu Zhen also stopped because he didn’t understand what was going on.

"Baby, what is it?" He asked softly.

"That leader just now. He was too agreeable with everything we said." Leng Pan said out of the blue.

"Well, from what I have gathered, Juan Ke has instructed them to never question us. That should be the reason." Lu Zhen reassured his wife, however, Leng Pan was still worried.

"I don’t know why, but I trust my gut. Let’s go back." Leng Pan said and at the same time, she had already begun running back.

As she appeared from afar, the leader she had just talked to lay on the ground next to the other team members and all of them were tied with ropes and unconscious.

What made her heart nearly stop was that another person who resembled the leader including the clothes he was wearing was standing over them and making some unintelligible sounds, to which, zombies started appearing from different directions.

Lu Zhen, who had followed his wife only because he supported her and didn’t really believe that something was wrong also appeared behind her and saw the same scene as his wife.

He couldn’t believe that his wife’s gut feeling had been right.

Something was really wrong with the leader. Or to be more precise, the leader had been replaced.
