Chapter 376: Chapter 376: Biased Parents

After Lu Tao walked into the room, the others followed one-by-one. Lu Zhen and Leng Pan walked in last.

The people in the room were in a spacious room that seemed to have been a living room in what appeared to have been an apartment attached to an office.

From the style of the furniture and the appliances visible in the open kitchen, one could tell the owner spent quite some time there.

However, it was dirty, especially the walls due to the water that had submerged the lower floors for at least a day or two after the ice melted.

The furniture seemed to have been soaked too but the heat had long since dried them up.

The only indicator of the flooding was the peeling walls that couldn’t erase the water marks.

"Hello. Is there any way we can help you?" A man who appeared to be in his thirties took a few steps forward and spoke directly to Leng Pan’s group.

He addressed no one in particular because he hadn’t seen people so clean and healthy in a long time.

From the way they looked, apart from a few who were a little skinny but not overly thin, he couldn’t tell who the leader was.

From their aura, he could determine that the leader was either Lu Zhen or Leng Pan, but they had walked in last, so he was confused.

Lu Tao turned to his brother as if to ask what to say. That gave the leader of the other team a clue about who the leader was.

So, he took another step and stretched out his dirty hand to shake Lu Zhen’s.

Then, he froze mid-stretch as if he just realized that he was too dirty to touch the hand of a man like Lu Zhen.

But Lu Zhen didn’t seem to mind and stretched out his hand for a handshake.

After retrieving his hand, the leader almost smiled. It had been a long time since he saw someone so gracious.

If it had been someone else, he could guarantee that they would have shunned his dirty hand.

"Can we help you Mr...." The leader asked with a stutter.

"Lu." Lu Zhen finished for him.

"Yes, Mr. Lu. Can we help you?" The leader asked again.

Before Lu Zhen could reply, the entitled girl seemed to have finally found her voice and ran over pushing the leader to the side.

"Oh my god! You are Lu Zhen, right? CEO Lu, the most eligible bachelor in the city. It is you, right?" The girl was nearly shouting herself hoarse and if she had found a treasure.

"You are?" Lu Zhen asked coldly.

"You haven’t met me before but my dad was your business partner. He was going to invite you to dinner and introduce me to you when the meteorites started to fall and then the zombies appeared and...." The girl started a whole story, which Lu Zhen had no patience for.

"Get to the point." He said without giving her any face.

The girl was embarrassed in front of everyone, especially since she was used to being the center of attention.

Tears formed in her eyes but no one bothered to comfort her.

Even those who were used to buttering her up to gain her favor kept their mouths shut.

"I just wanted to get to know you." The girl finally said when no one came to her aid.

"No need." Lu Zhen said curtly.

"Why? My father was your business partner...." The girl started again.

"I don’t know who your father is and I don’t care. You are wasting my time and your implications will make my wife misunderstand me." Lu Zhen didn’t show any mercy just because she was a girl.

He was as ruthless as always.

Tears began falling as tej girl was used to being pampered even when the apocalypse started, her father and mother still treated her like a little princess.

It was the sole reason she was able to follow the team who were out searching for supplies knowing that she couldn’t even fight and would be a burden.

But her parents still indulged her and ordered the team to protect her if they wanted their families to continue living in the base.

Apparently, her father was one of the people who contributed resources into building the base and still had enough supplies to live a comfortable life.

Moreover, those living in the base had to pay tax in form of the supplies they brought back.

So, the family still had a lot of supplies.

Her half-sister, however, was treated differently.

She was born from a previous marriage her mother was in. So, she was treated differently.

Her mother also cared more about her sister than her, so she had to fend for herself most of the time.

That was why she had joined the Breaking Axe survivor team.

This way, she at least, had some freedom and didn’t have to be treated like a servant all the time.

Even so, her sister still treated her like garbage and she always put up with her for her mother’s sake.

However, this time she had completely given up on her mother after she forced her to bring her clueless sister along and ordered her to protect her knowing how dangerous the outside world was at the moment.

Her mother even told her even if she died, she had to make sure her sister was safe.

What kind of a mother says that?

She was planning on leaving the base once they got back, but she hadn’t expected her sister’s wilfulness to cause them to be stranded in this building for days.

They had chosen the place to hide during the day to avoid the heat only for her sister to insist on performing songs like a KTV to relieve boredom.

Something that ended up attracting a lot of zombies to the building and now they couldn’t leave.

Then after three days and seeing that she was running out of food, her sister began urging the team to find a way to get food for her.
