Chapter 370: Chapter 370: Close Combat Improvement

"Nothing much. I was just wondering how the world could change so much in such a short time.

Just a few months ago, all most girls cared about was what brand of makeup to apply, which shopping mall to visit, or what hairstyle to wear.

But now, they have to think about where to get the next drop of water. Which area had fewer zombies, and whether they would live to see the next sunrise.

It is both heartbreaking and humbling." Leng Pan said with a sigh.

"Life has changed for everyone. We have to accept it. Maybe it will go back to normal some day, but probably not in our generation.

Even if the apocalypse ends, rebuilding a whole new world isn’t going to be easy when everything has been destroyed." Lu Zhen said solemnly.

"Maybe we can live long enough to witness the new era if we don’t die in battle.

I don’t think superpower users have the same lifespan as ordinary people." Leng Pan said with a thoughtful look in her eyes.

The vehicle suddenly swerved, almost throwing those in the car out of the window before it stabilized again.

"Sorry, sorry I didn’t mean to." The person behind the wheel apologized repeatedly.

"What happened?" Leng Pan asked as if she hadn’t realized that her theory of superpower users living longer than normal humans was shocking.

The others understood why the driver had made such a mistake, except for the person who had caused it.

"Nothing, I thought I saw something on the road and was avoiding it." Of course the driver wouldn’t confess to being shocked to almost causing an accident.

He just pretended that everything was fine.

No one exposed him. Even Lu Zhen knew why the accident had almost happened but didn’t want to dampen his wife’s mood, so he kept quiet as well and smoothly changed the topic.

If Lu Tao had been there he might have spilled the beans. Luckily, he was in the other car behind them. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

As the car went further from their base, zombies started showing up in large numbers.

At first, it was only sporadic ones because they had cleared most of the zombies near their base.

Now that they were further away from the range of their daily patrols, the number of zombies increased as well.

Without spies watching them, Leng Pan didn’t hold back.

She didn’t even need to get out of the car and just opened the window.

Ninja-like weapons formed from ice were launched from her palms in large numbers and aimed at the zombies running towards them attracted by the sound of the vehicles and the smell of life force.

Each weapon decapitated a zombie. She showed no mercy as she separated the head from the body, leaving a trail of zombies lying on the side of the road.

Seeing what their Commander was doing, those with superpowers in the team weren’t to be outdone as they also opened their windows and began attacking the zombies.

Some launched fire balls, others knives made from metals, others shot water arrows as they weren’t as proficient in using the water superpower as well as Leng Pan could.

Different superpowers were used and the number of zombies collapsing increased as well.

When they came across a large horde of zombies that couldn’t be dealt with just by launching a few distant attacks, they stopped the vehicles and fought close combat.

As the battles increased with the number of zombies increasing in areas where population had been high before the apocalypse, the coordination between the teammates improved and their attacks became more direct and lethal.

Leng Pan could literally see their growth with every battle.

She and Lu Zhen had to only intervene when necessary. Otherwise, they stayed out of the battles.

Almost at dawn of the first night when the team had just finished a battle after being surrounded by zombies in a medium sized town, they heard a cry for help from inside a tall building a short distance from the road.

"Someone is in trouble." A team member said. "Should we go and rescue them?" He asked cautiously.

Leng Pan had told them about aliens and how they could take human shape and pretend to be humans, so they had to be careful.

Even so, they hadn’t lost their humanity and still wanted to help those in need.

This was one of the reasons they had qualified to be recruited in the army.

Because they had the heart to help, which was necessary if they were going to fight a war that might cost them their lives.

"Let’s go check it out, but you have to be careful." Leng Pan said and ordered the two vehicles to be driven into an underground parking lot in the building next to the road.

They were obviously not going to keep traveling considering that dawn was breaking and the temperature had already started to rise.

After parking the vehicles and draining out the gasoline into cans, the team headed in the direction where the voice was still calling for help intermittently.

One couldn’t tell clearly whether the owner of the voice was in distress or not. It sounded weird.

Lu Zhen took the lead with a ball of crimson flame floating about a centimeter above his palm ready to be launched at any moment.

If whatever was in there was a threat, then he would not hesitate to eliminate it.

The building was dark, especially since it was just before dawn when it was the darkest and Lu Zhen’s fire ball acted as the only source of light.

Luckily, it was bright enough to light up their surroundings.

They walked into what looked like a lobby and found tables and chairs overturned and covered in mud.

In the dried and cracked mud filled floor, some weird foot prints could be seen.

These foot prints were faint, almost invisible if one wasn’t looking carefully.

However, they didn’t resemble those of a human being, neither did they look like they belonged to an animal.
