Chapter 371: Chapter 371: A Hidden Chamber

Both Leng Pan and Lu Zhen, who were the only ones who noticed the abnormality of the foot prints, raised their guard.

They didn’t know what they were dealing with and they didn’t want to rush in blindsided and end up in a trap.

Lu Zhen signaled for his brother to come closer ànd asked him to scan the building.

Without a word, Lu Tao activated his X-ray vision and looked in every corner of the building. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

His super hearing was also activated to its peak to help him pinpoint where the cry for help was coming from.

"There is a girl in the basement. She is probably the same age as me and is tied to a chair.

She looks a little thin, not by much but it looks like she is malnutritioned.

She is the one calling for help. Should we go save her now?" Lu Tao reported truthfully what he saw to his brother.

However as he finished speaking, he was already moving to go to the door leading to the basement.

Lu Zhen had to grab him by the collar and pull him back.

"Do you have a death wish?" He asked curtly.

Lu Tao looked at his brother with a confused expression.

He didn’t understand why wanting to help a helpless girl was termed as having a death wish.

Lu Zhen looked at his clueless brother and realized that he still didn’t understand how dangerous the apocalypse was.

Leng Pan also realized what was happening and explained to Lu Tao.

"Just because she seemed to be tied to a chair doesn’t mean she is a hostage or anything like that.

She could be a bait put there to attract clueless and naive survivors to help her only for them to be surrounded and robbed.

She could also be an alien who has transformed into human form to bait innocent humans to ’save’ her then infiltrate a safe base or something like that.

That is how the aliens will work from the inside and outside and bring down humans.

So, you can’t be careless even when you think someone is in trouble and you want to help.

The girl is in the basement and is tied to a chair, which means she has no freedom to go out and look for food.

So, do the people who have tied her provide her with enough food that gives her so much strength that she can call for help and be heard all the way into the road?

Who is so generous in the apocalypse where even a packet of biscuit would be fought over with life on the line?"

Listening to Leng Pan, Lu Tao realized that he had been impulsive and his actions could easily get everyone into trouble.

The others had also noticed that Leng Pan was talking about something and all of them moved closer to listen.

Only at that moment did they realize that in the apocalypse, even a blade of grass couldn’t be taken lightly.

Everything had to be scrutinized before taking action, in case they brought disaster to their companions.

"Then what do we do with that girl?" Lu Tao asked while still observing the girl who was still calling for help.

Leng Pan then whispered to Lu Tao.

"Check around the basement if there is another hidden room or an exit."

Leng Pan didn’t believe for one moment that the girl was there alone.

Who would take people hostage in the apocalypse? People committed crimes openly without having to worry about arrests or something.

Now, how could anyone have the time to kidnap people and tie them up?

A shocked gasp came from Lu Tao after about two minutes of searching.

He had almost missed the hidden chamber.

"There is a hidden door on the wall of the basement. After the door, there is a corridor but it’s so dark that I almost didn’t see it.

About thirty meters from the door, there is a hidden chamber. It looks like it had been there from before the apocalypse since it’s well constructed.

There are about twenty people inside the chamber, some have their ears glued to the door as if listening for movement." Lu Tao explained what he had found to his brother and sister-in-law.

"Just as expected. That girl is bait. As long as you go down to the basement to help, you will be surrounded and robbed or killed.

Now do you understand what we were saying?" Leng Pan asked while looking at her brother-in-law.

She hoped that with this lesson, the team would not be impulsive in the future.

"So, what do we do?" Juan Ke asked stiffly.

He was also one of those people who wanted to help the girl when he heard that there was a young girl tied up in the basement.

He hadn’t expected it to be a trap.

"The basement is definitely cooler than above ground. We can go into the basement and spend the day there while we wait to leave tonight." Lu Zhen said, taking the first step towards the door leading to the basement.

"But you just said we shouldn’t help that girl? What are we going to do?" Someone from the team asked.

"We are not going to help her, we are just staying in the basement for a day then we will leave." Leng Pan replied matter of factly.

"Uhh! How exactly do we do that when there are people waiting for us down there?" Another team member asked curiously.

"We will not bother with them, but if they don’t know what’s good for them, then we can always beat them into submission." Leng Pan replied like it was the most normal thing to do.

Lu Tao nodded his head as if he finally understood what was happening.

The others just decided to wait and see what happens later. After all, they were told that following the two leaders could never be wrong.

Lu Zhen opened the door and walked slowly into the darkness.
