Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 368: Going on a Trip

Now, Leng Pan felt that they were the best choice for a long trip.

Because of the heat during the day, they could only travel at night.

During the day, they had to hide their vehicle to prevent the tires from melting.

The testing center they were going to get the equipment from wasn’t far, but due to the condition of the roads and the fact that they might engage in battles with zombies and aliens along the way, it might take more than a day to come back.

"Let’s inform them then. We might be gone for at least two or three days or more depending on the situation there.

So, it’s better to take more supplies." Leng Pan said, pushing herself off the balcony railing where she had been leaning while watching the sun set.

"Okay. I’ll go inform Mom and the others. Lu Tao might clamour to follow us so he has to prepare too. We can’t always protect him." Lu Zhen said. Pushing himself off the railing as well and left the apartment.

Leng Pan went down to Juan Ke’s apartment and found him with Momo.

The two seemed to be getting along quite well, but Leng Pan didn’t ask.

Momo was single and Juan Ke divorced. If they wanted to be together, she would support them.

"We are going somewhere tonight. It might take more than two or three days before we come back. Tell your team to prepare and take what they might need. We will be leaving by nine tonight." Leng Pan explained her purpose before turning and leaving the two who were looking everywhere but each other.

As if their feelings for each other weren’t obvious.

While Leng Pan was packing a bag for their trip, Lu Zhen came back to help her.

"As expected, that boy insisted on following us saying he was useful." Lu Zhen said with humor in his voice.

Over the last few months after the apocalypse started, his relationship with his brother had improved.

It wasn’t the same as before when he was always busy with the company and only talked to his brother through sending him money.

Now they could talk, make jokes, and fight side-by-side. It gave him a sense of accomplishment more than he did when he earned hundreds of millions for his family to spend.

"Let him come then. He is indeed useful. His ability has improved a lot and now he can spot danger more than two kilometers away. That could give us enough time to prepare for battle or escape if we can’t fight." Leng Pan could tell that Lu Zhen had become more human after spending so much time with his family who obviously loved him very much but didn’t know how to show it before.

He had always been so cold that even his mother was afraid of him. Now that they could talk openly, their relationship resembled more of that of a mother and son.

That was evident with how Li Yunjia had just nagged him over and over again when he went to inform them about their trip.

His mother had started telling him what to put in his bag, how to protect his wife and younger brother in case of danger. To retreat if he couldn’t win and to watch his health in case he got hurt.

She even began packing the snacks Uncle Li had just made saying that he could eat some when hungry.

Li Yunjia never behaved like that before. She was always walking on thin ice around her elder son because they didn’t develop a bond when he was younger.

She had been busy with the company after her husband’s death, leaving Lu Zhen to grow up mostly alone.

He developed a quiet and cold personality that seemed to be telling people to stay away from him.

She was always afraid that saying something would upset him and cause him to distance himself further away from her.

But since the apocalypse, they have had their meals together. Went on missions together. Fought and saved each other and eventually warmed up to each other.

Lu Tao, who only used to worship his brother, also developed a closer relationship with him.

Now, he wasn’t afraid to tell him what he wanted and to act shameless if his brother said no.

Leng Pan was happy about all this because her husband deserved all the love in the world.

"By the way, how was Sonny’s investigation?" Lu Zhen asked.

Even though no one said anything, he understood what was happening the best.

He knew that when Sonny disappeared, he was on a mission issued by Leng Pan. It had always been that way.

"Our guess was correct. Aliens have infiltrated human society and the bases.

Especially in bases where they have spies and traitors like that led by Commander Qui.

Those mutated zombies we saw the first night we went out after the extreme heat started were also modified by them.

They use a kind of serum that only works on zombies.

They have been capturing humans for experiments but it hasn’t worked on living humans.

The serum seems to not only modify the bodies of zombies, but also control them." Leng Pan explained the results Sonny had brought back. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"So, they are trying to experiment on humans so that they can control them?" Lu Zhen asked.

"Most likely. But it has failed so far and only zombies can be controlled. However, we don’t know if they will succeed one day." Leng Pan added solemnly.

"We have to speed up our plans. Eradicating zombies can wait, but the aliens can’t.

We have to find their weakness and blast them all out of earth before we deal with the zombies." Lu Zhen had been playing with this idea for a while and now it was affirmed.

If they could find a way to get the aliens to leave, then that would be the best. They could always deal with the zombies later.
