"How did they manage to smell us with Momo covering us?" Leng Pan asked again.
Some of them didn’t know Momo’s superpower but others did.
Any area that Momo covered would become invisible. Not in the physical sense, but it would be as if it was not there.
Even someone standing next to them would ignore them.
However, those monsters had clearly come from far and they were the target.
Now everyone understood that something was wrong.
"Then what happened?" Juan Ke couldn’t stand the suspense and asked.
"Someone or something had been watching us since we arrived near the supermarket.
They followed us to the supermarket and sent those things after us.
You should have noticed that the monsters seemed to be observing us first and didn’t attack.
Even when they attacked, it was as if they were giving us an opportunity to fight them.
I figured that whoever sent them was watching and learning about our abilities.
They were probably the creators of those monsters and the centipedes nesting underground.

"Yes. Now they will probably create an army of those monsters based on the data they collected. But we still have to be careful for the next few weeks.
Let’s not give them a chance to discover our real strength." Leng Pan didn’t dare to relax after outwitting the enemy once. She knew how cunning those aliens could be.
"Understood." The teammates replied in unison.
"Why don’t we just go out?" Janna asked.
Assistant Yao shook his head and replied.
"That will only make them suspicious. They think we haven’t noticed them, but if we disappear, they will realize that they were discovered, then they will start to doubt the results they obtained.
If they conduct another test while we are unaware, we might expose ourselves.
So, it is better to show up more often and perform poorly, showing mediocre skills.
After a few times, they will believe that is our true strength and leave us alone."

By the third week of the extreme heat, those aliens observing them had retreated, convinced that Leng Pan and her team were not a threat.
The heat had skyrocketed to 80° during the day. An impossible temperature that made them feel as if they were going to melt.
The ice they had harvested at the end of the extreme cold had been depleted long ago.
Many people had died from the heat. Some from heatstroke, others from dehydration, and others just couldn’t take it anymore and committed suicide.

They had done a lot of work during the nights they weren’t playing house with the aliens.
The perimeter wall around the base had been increased in height and the collapsed buildings repaired.

The number of people in the base had increased as well.
Some of the survivors who had lived in the community were recruited while others chose to go to the formal safe bases run by the military.
The soldiers recruited by Silk and his squad had also joined them and more people joined in intervals.
Now, the place was lively with both fighters and normal citizens.
There were children and women as well.
It was more of a community or a village than the army Leng Pan had in mind at the beginning.
