Chapter 135: Chapter 135: A Super Cold Winter on the Way

After Leng Pan finished giving instructions of what to prepare for the first zombie-hunting mission of the family, she felt somewhat gratified.

She no longer treated this world as some book world and the people as paper people. These were people who could bleed and feel. Therefore, she wanted to care for her new found family.

Moreover, she had a nagging feeling that her memories of reading the book about the apocalypse might be misleading. Something was wrong, but she wasn’t in a hurry to find what. She had to get a little stronger first and also ensure that her family could defend themselves.

That way, if she went looking for answers and ended up provoking an enemy, she could at least protect herself and her family.

"You brought a lot of supplies this time. We won’t be able to worry about food for a while, is there anything else we need to search for apart from winter clothes?" Auntie Li asked while still packing some supplies for proper storage.

"Uncle, do we still have eggs at home? We brought back packages of preserved eggs and ultra heat treated milk, but no regular eggs. Are there still eggs we can use?" Leng Pan remembered the desserts their uncle usually makes and felt that they had overlooked something.

"There are no more eggs left. I thought that they are unavailable so I didn’t tell you guys about it. But seeing that you can still get so much meat at this time, then maybe you can get eggs too.

If you know where to find fresh eggs, please bring some back. I could also make more preserved eggs for the future in case they go bad.

I doubt now we can find chicken to lay eggs so let’s preserve as much as we can now that some things are still available." Uncle Li explained and Leng Pan felt that his suggestion made sense.

"Okay, after we are done collecting winter clothes, we can go to some farm houses that rears poultry to see if we can find eggs.

I know a couple of places that are within the city and the owners raise chickens for sale and others for laying eggs.

I am sure we can get eggs there." In fact, Leng Pan had come across a post on social media talking about these two places where the owners had managed a limited space to turn their city residents into a small farm.

At the time, he had thought it was an exaggeration, especially because he had been ordering food stuff on large scale to prepare for the apocalypse and she thought that the small city farms weren’t very reliable.

But now, she had to go there to look for eggs since she couldn’t start taking what was in the space for use yet. Moreover, it was better to collect even more food for the future because as the situation kept changing and secrets seemed to be unveiling themselves, it wasn’t known how long they would need that food.

"Okay, that’s settled then. But, Panpan, I was thinking of getting the winter clothes from a factory instead of the mall." Li Yunjia suddenly said, which caught everyone off guard.

After all, they had all thought that the family would go to the same mall the three youngsters went that day to look for winter supplies.

They needed more than just clothes. There were also shoes, socks, scarves, and other things to ward off the cold.

"Mom, why did you change your mind?" Leng Pan asked as she moved closer to her mother-in-law and started helping in sorting supplies.

"I know when I talk about the place I usually find myself in when I use my superpower, you all think that it’s the normal winter where snow falls and covers everything and the temperature drops to -20° or so.

But what I usually experience is different. This morning after you guys left I used my superpower again to get a better understanding of what was going to happen.

Since you speculate that what I see is what will happen in the near future, I had to make sure we have a better understanding.

I didn’t know how I usually go into the future. Whether it’s my soul or just my imagination, I held an electronic thermometer in my hand this time before using my ability and when I appeared in a place filled with ice and snow still falling heavily like rain, I checked the thermometer.

I wanted to get a more accurate reading, so even when I felt my body become numb from the cold, I didn’t stop. It wasn’t until I was almost unable to move a finger from freezing that I forced myself to look at the thermometer.

I found that the temperature reading was at -100°. In that weather, if someone dared to leave the house, they would turn into an ice block immediately.

This time it took me longer to recover even though I had put a glass of water beside me with a flexible straw inside.

I could sip some as soon as I regained consciousness. However, it still took me almost two hours to get rid of the cold.

I don’t think that there are any readymade clothes that could fight that kind of cold. Even with the constant-temperature bodysuits, we won’t be able to survive.

So, I was thinking that if we go to a factory instead, we could bring back the materials used for making padded warm clothes so that we could make out own.

We could also modify them using the same technology used in electric blankets and make the clothes warmer. This way, we will have a better chance of fighting the cold." Li Yunjia explained in detail what she had done and found out about the possible oncoming extreme cold.

When everyone heard what she said, they were alarmed. After all, even though they had anticipated a bad disaster, having the temperature drop by a hundred degrees below zero was unexpected.

This could literally wipe out the rest of the population left on earth after the zombie virus. Unfortunately, they couldn’t warn everyone as they were afraid of getting into trouble.

Moreover, Leng Pan and Lu Zhen were aware that there was a force out there looking for them. So, they couldn’t risk exposing anymore flaws that might cause their family problems.

"I think little sister has a point. If the temperatures are going to drop that low, then the clothes meant for regular winter cannot be used. They won’t be any different from wearing summer clothes in winter. freeweɓnovel~cѳm

In that case, it was better for us to us to make our own then. At least, we can control the quality and what materials we use.

Also, that idea of using the same technology used in electric blankets is indeed brilliant. Making electric clothes can ensure one was warm whether in bed or sitting around." Uncle Li also seconded his sister after hearing her suggestion.

"Mmm...it’s a good idea. Let’s go to the clothes factory tomorrow then." Lu Zhen also agreed with his mother, but like always, he didn’t forget to ask for his wife’s opinion.

"What do you think, Baby?"

"I think Mom makes sense. If we could custom make our own clothes tailored according to our needs during the extreme cold, then it beats the readymade winter clothes." Leng Pan also felt that this was a good idea and was already looking forward to what they could find to make the clothes they would need.

"Alright, since we have such abundant supplies today, I will cook a richer dinner to celebrate the fact that we have survived another day of the apocalypse. We have endured about two weeks already and it feels like this is our new normal.

I hope that we can always be as optimistic as we are now and survive until we see the end of this disaster threatening to send the human race into extinction." Uncle Li said and got up to go to the kitchen to cook.

Aunt Li felt that her husband might need a hand for today’s meal since he was planning on cooking so much, thus, she also got up and followed him into the kitchen to help.

"What is it Mom? Is something bothering you?" Leng Pan had noticed that her mother-in-law was somewhat agitated even though she tried to hide it.

Especially, when they keep quiet. It felt as if she was keeping the conversation going so that she could calm down.

As a fellow woman, Leng Pan could spot such behavior. But she didn’t understand why her mother-in-law was like that.

"I am nervous about tomorrow. I know that you guys keep saying that dealing with zombies is easy and you just need to aim for the head and it would be dead.

But I still feel like killing a zombie is the same as killing another human being. I know my logic is flawed since those monsters are corpses to begin with, but I feel a suffocating feeling in my heart.

I am afraid I can’t overcome this hurdle in my heart and might end up making a mistake that might cost you guys." Li Yunjia explained where her unease came from and Leng Pan understood her sentiments.
