Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 136: Horror Movie Night
Chapter 136: Chapter 136: Horror Movie Night
In fact, it’s normal for any human to feel that way the first time they take a life, even if it is killing chicken.
Leng Pan remembered that she had downloaded some zombie movies during the week she had been preparing for the apocalypse. She decided to let her mother-in-law watch at least one or two of those movies to build her courage and also help her to understand that she had to change drastically if she wanted to survive.
Without a radical mindset, there was no way they could survive in the apocalypse. She had watched enough movies and read enough novels to know that the soft-hearted individuals were the first to die in the apocalypse.
She didn’t want her mother-in-law or any member of her family to join those ranks of cannon fodder. Therefore, she had to put them through horror or watching movies where zombies attack and eat humans.
It was the only way to wake them up before going out tomorrow. She didn’t want them to take it lightly and then end up causing an accident because they had underestimated the zombies or other survivors.
Therefore, after dinner that night, Leng Pan suggested watching a movie and the whole family sat down in the living room. They had all expected to watch a family movie depicting the daily life and struggles of a normal family, or a drama involving the rich and wealthy families and what happens in their circle.
But when the movie started, the opening scene included people running helter-skelter while others fell over themselves and got trampled on the ground. Some got injured while others died from internal bleeding.
While this was eye-catching, what followed made Li Yunjia and Aunt Li want to vomit all the dinner they had just had. The scene on the television zoomed in on one spot inside a huge mall where people were running and escaping.
It showed a woman dressed in the latest fashion looking like an independent wealthy wife going shopping for bags and shoes. Don’t ask how they came to that conclusion regarding the choice of costume used in the movie. It was just the first impression one got when they saw the woman.
Now, the woman’s sense of fashion wasn’t what made the scene unforgettable but her actions. She was sitting, or rather lying on top of a man who was flailing his arms wildly and shouting for help.
The shot then focused on the woman’s face buried on the man’s neck. When she raised her head, the screen was filled with a face that couldn’t be described. One could tell that the woman had been beautiful.
But at that moment, her face was ashen-white and it seemed to have cracks. At the corner of one eye, a piece of skin was hanging there and the flesh where the skin had been was exposed.
Her mouth, nose, chin, and parts of her cheeks were covered in blood. This wasn’t her own blood, but the blood of the man beneath her who had been shouting for help. She had bitten a huge chunk of flesh from his neck, which she could be seen chewing as if it was some world-class delicacy.
Her eyes did not have a pupil and were whitish-grey with red veins running criss-cross inside.
This scene would have looked less creepy if the woman had tattered clothes on her body with dishevelled hair. But the issue was that apart from her face that looked scary, her hair was still neatly held up with a diamond hairpin. Her skirt was clean and tidy, and apart from a few drops of blood that had stained her blouse when she raised her head after biting flesh from the man’s neck, it was completely clean.
It was not until the camera shifted to her hands that had somehow dug into the man’s stomach and pulled out a string of intestines that one would notice that the woman’s hands had longer fingers than normal and the nails were longer than her fake acrylics and looked like the claws of a beast.
Moreover, the nails didn’t have the normal pink color but were almost black, looking poisonous from the first sight.
Leng Pan had to admit that she had chosen the right movie. The director of this film must have won an award for cinematography just from that one scene. The impact it left on people, even for her who had been in close proximity with real zombies was unforgettable.
Just as Leng Pan was thinking this, she felt her mother-in-law who was sitting beside her jump and scream while hugging her.
She focused again and found that on the television, the man who was missing a large chunk of flesh on his neck had somehow stood up with a part of his intestines hanging outside the body.
The woman who had been eating his flesh was following behind him. Both of their movements were slow and somewhat uncoordinated. Their limps and necks looked stiff like dry wood. As their backs faded with dark shadows surrounding them and a new scene of a family barricading their doors and windows started, one could feel a literal chill run down their spine.
More scenes like that appeared a few more times in the movie with each scene more brutal and disgusting than the last. By the end of the movie, either one was enlightened or depressed.
Luckily, Leng Pan’s family had a strong mental endurance and didn’t get carried away by those scenes.
When the movie ended, Li Yunjia, who had already understood Leng Pan’s intentions asked her youngest son,
"Were the scenes you saw today when you went out the same as the ones playing on TV?"
"Mom, I don’t really know how to tell you this." Lu Tao replied with a helpless sigh.
"What do you mean?" Li Yunjia asked angrily.
What did this stinky boy think he was doing? She was just asking a valid question, did he have to behave like that?
"I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but I guess I can only say it. The scenes in the real-world apocalypse are much worse than what you just saw. After all, at the beginning of the movie, the scene where that woman had bitten the man on the neck, she had only bitten off a piece of flesh and cut a part of his intestines.
Today, I saw a man go from fighting and shouting for his friends to fight harder to becoming a skeleton in minutes. Not only that, but his eyeballs, intestines, and even his warm and beating heart were pulled out of his body while he was still alive.
He could feel the pain. With every part of flesh bitten off, he felt it, when his eyeballs were dug out, he felt it. I am guessing that even when his heart was being pulled out of his chest, he felt it too.
So, yes, what is happening out there is far worse than what you just saw in that movie. And do you know why he ended up in such a state?
It was because while fighting with a group of zombies, he heard our truck approaching and got distracted for a split second. In less than a second he was distracted and paused for a bit, a zombie had already attacked and tore off his arm.
It was the scariest thing I had even seen, but it tells us not to think about anything else after stepping out of the door.
So, Mom, don’t try to think that the reality is the same as that movie. The truth is, that movie doesn’t even capture a quarter of what is happening outside." Lu Tao felt that it was better to pour cold water on his mother’s expectations than to let her go out with a flawed judgment. It might cost her too much. They couldn’t afford any mishaps.
