Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 123: The First Supply Run
Chapter 123: Chapter 123: The First Supply Run
Down in the garage, there were no people around as everyone was afraid of encountering zombies and they hid in their houses.
So, it was easy for Leng Pan to take out a large car. The zombies were still not as dangerous as the ones described in the novel where a zombie could literally tear open a car.
So, instead of using the bulletproof vehicles she and Lu Zhen had bought, she took out the truck she had rented when she went to sell her car at the dealership.
The truck was big enough to carry many supplies and won’t raise suspicions. So, she took out the truck from her space. She was glad she had decided to keep it at the last moment.
At first, she had thought that having the vehicles bought from the dealership store and Lu Zhen’s friend was enough. But she later thought that there was no useless resource in the apocalypse, so she also took the truck as a by the way.
Now, it came in handy. She checked the fuel and realized that the tank was half-full. Thus, she decided to look for a gas station to fill the tank and collect more gasoline if possible.
When Lu Tao came down, his brother and sister-in-law were already seated at the front of the truck. Lu Zhen was driving and Leng Pan had to move closer to him to make space for her brother-in-law.
As the car drove out of the community where some zombies roamed, Lu Tao felt a chill run down his spine. Before, he could only see those disgusting creatures from the balcony of his bedroom or the living room and didn’t feel much knowing that his brother and sister-in-law went out and killed them every day.
But now being so close to these things that were neither humans nor ghosts, he felt extremely uncomfortable.
He started using his vision to observe his surroundings and what he saw scared him into stiffness.
"What’s wrong Lu Tao?" Leng Pan asked when she felt the young brother-in-law beside her stiffen like a corpse.
"How have you guys been going out everyday with so many zombies around? Moreover, they are so disgusting with rotten flesh falling off their bodies as they walk. How do they produce such beautiful crystals like the ones we use for cultivation?" Lu Tao really couldn’t understand these things. Especially the crystal cores.
Those things were like shiny gems that would make any place brighter and look more luxurious. But the things that produced them were so disgusting it’s unbelievable.
"You will get used to seeing the zombies and fighting with them the more you go out. I was also scared and disgusted the first time I fought one. Especially because it was a little advanced and its speed and strength was higher than these slow moving zombies you see around us.
There are zombies who can move as fast as the flash and others with the strength of the Hulk. One punch from it would cave all your bones and shatter your organs.
So, you have to be careful later and not fight an opponent too strong. Start with the stiff-necked zombies. They are slow and their attacks are not lethal. You just have to avoid being scratched.
Once you are used to these ones, you can go ahead and fight the ones with slightly agile movements. Move up slowly and you will gain experience to confront more advanced zombies later." Leng Pan gave the advice she felt was most appropriate for a first timer going to hunt zombies.
Lu Tao listened carefully to his sister-in-law’s advice and kept everything in mind. He was indeed scared when he saw those monsters up close for the first time.
Thinking that he had to get out of the car and fight them made his skin crawl. But he also sighed in relief when he heard the comforting words from his sister-in-law.
"Okay, I will try not to vomit when I fight later." Lu Tao said as he could already imagine the feeling of being close to something that rotten.
Since the flesh on the bodies of the zombies was rotten to the point of falling off, there was no way it didn’t smell like death up close. He would have to endure that smell.
"In a battle with zombies, there is no room for trial and error. You have to kill it or you will be in trouble. I won’t protect you if you will be busy vomiting.
Getting a little scratch from them would turn you into one of them, and I will end you myself if that happens. So, you better man up and stop thinking about vomiting." Lu Zhen warned his brother from the driver’s seat.
He had been listening to their discussion and didn’t want to let his younger brother think that there was a do-over when it came to fighting with zombies.
He had to understand that he had no choice but to win, and win without letting the zombie get a chance to touch him. Otherwise, it would be game over for him. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Lu Tao shrank his neck when he heard that. He didn’t mean that he would start vomiting in the middle of a fight. He was aware of the dangers and knew that if he slipped a little, then he could implicate both his brother and sister-in-law.
He didn’t want them to get hurt because of his negligence, so he had just been expressing his feelings, not really planning to act on them.
However, he knew better than to argue with his brother, so he just nodded his head and said okay.
"Don’t be too nervous. The zombies aren’t really as scary as they look. Once you kill two or three you will realize that they are easier to deal with than people.
So, don’t worry too much." Leng Pan comforted the young boy when she saw how he was shrinking at his brother’s words.
"Mmm..." Lu Tao nodded his head in agreement with his sister-in-law.
He had not expected the girl who had made his brother crazy to be so kind and insightful once she wasn’t controlled by her so-called best friend.
He liked this sister-in-law better than those high society socialites his mother had tried to introduce to his brother.
He could imagine the current situation, if those socialites were married to his brother, they wouldn’t help and instead become burdens.
As they passed by the roads that had not been affected, they saw small groups of people entering shops carrying big bags while others were moving things from convenience stores to waiting vehicles outside.
While some people worked to carry supplies, others fought zombies outside. Luckily, the zombies in areas that hadn’t been affected by the special meteorite were still in the early stages of mutation and their movements were slow and uncoordinated.
However, some people still got caught off guard and we’re torn to pieces.
Such was a case witnessed by Leng Pan’s group as they passed a certain convenience store and a man who had been fighting a zombie got slightly distracted by the sound of their truck.
That slight moment of distraction cost him his life. Lu Tao watched as the man was grabbed by a zombie by the arm and before he could react, his arm was torn off of his body.
