Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 138: The Door Is Jammed
All of a sudden, Eva yanked her wrist from his grip as if clouded by disgust.
"Don’t touch me!"
Dante stared at her with a cocked up eyebrow, utterly confused by her sudden outburst. He stared at his hand where he’d been holding her just a moment ago.
"Move out of the way," she demanded when Dante’s figure framed the door entirely, completely keeping her from reaching it.
"You can’t step out for now. Jay is out there—"
"Who’s Jay?" She questioned with confusion evident in her tone.
Dante sighed before he responded. "Jay is someone my father sent to find you. I don’t think he knows you’re the one under the mask but your dress..." His breath hitched when he stared down at her dress. He wanted to touch her but he was afraid he would be getting kicked again, and this time, perhaps on his ground. "Your dress stands out a lot."
"Wait, hold on. How did you know I was the one even when I’m wearing a face mask?" She questioned, this time more curious than irritated.
"I can recognize those eyes from anywhere, Eva," he replied.
Immediately, her stomach did the thing.
She shook her head instantly, refusing to fall for his words again.
"Well, I don’t want to be here with you. I want to leave, get out of my way."
Yet, Dante didn’t move.
She didn’t know how dangerous Jay was and she didn’t care. She’d handled far more dangerous people before and one thing was for sure, she wasn’t going to spend any more moments with Dante.
She pushed him away which was easier than she thought considering he was stronger than her and weighed tons.
She reached for the doorknob and pulled it back, but the door wouldn’t budge.
She tried again but nothing happened.
They both shared a look, as if reading each other’s minds.
Dante tried to open the door but it didn’t budge.
The door was jammed and they were stuck inside.
"I think this is a sign that you shouldn’t step outside for now. I bet Jay is still roaming around like a hawk," said Dante, finding himself a seat.
Eva frowned at this. "Aren’t you going to call someone who can open the door?" She questioned.
"And why would I? I don’t have anything more to do at that so-called charity event. My business for tonight is finished and I can just stay here and rest."
Eva couldn’t believe her ears.
The storage room was large with objects that were used for the events like chairs, tables, and decorations. Being stuck there wasn’t her problem. Her problem was the fact that she was stuck there with Dante.
"I’d advise you to take a seat and patiently wait for one of the staff to come open the door," he added nonchalantly.
Eva couldn’t help but scoff at his invitation.
She fetched her phone and intended to make a phone call but Dante stopped her.
"Even if you call for your brothers or that Ryan guy, I doubt they would be able to make it to the building because of the tight security."
Eva’s hands paused while her fingers gripped her phone hard. She hated to admit that he was right. This was a private party after all and without an invitation, they wouldn’t be let in. And if they forced their way in, it would only bring attention.
Mr. De Rossi might not know she is the lady behind the mask but she still couldn’t risk it.
Eva glanced around again, as if there was a ground already dug up where she could hide away from Dante and never see him again until a staff member miraculously opens the door.
"Are you that disgusted with me that you wouldn’t want to stay in the same space as me?" Dante asked, and she almost missed the hurt in his tone.
She took off her mask, revealing her face with a sigh.
"Yes, I am," she replied coldly. "I would rather have a bunch of snakes here with me than have you here." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
A faint smile appeared on Dante’s lips as he lowered his head, tearing his gaze away from her.
Eva’s heart pricked.
’Did I go too far?’ She wondered, but shook her head in denial.
After all, he was the one who’d betrayed her.
Unfortunately, Dante remained silent for a while, but the silence suffocated Eva.
After standing for so long, she decided to take a seat.
"You should take off your heels. Seating isn’t going to help with the ache when you’re still wearing them," said Dante, his gaze on her heels.
Slowly, Eva took off her heels without uttering a word.
She tried to remain quiet. Without having Dante talk, she could focus on hating him instead of doubting his betrayal. Yet, a question lingered in her mind.
"Why did you save me from your father?" She asked. "Getting rid of me is probably what you want, so why pretend when you’re still going to do it in the end?"
Dante glared at Eva, and instantly, she felt all the hairs on her back stand on their ends.
"I don’t hate you. And I only betrayed you because I was left with no choice. You’ll understand everything soon enough," he responded.
Dante’s heart bumped at his words. With the connections he’d made for the past week, he could finally take a stance against his father. But for that to happen, he would need to get Rhea out of his grasp.
Once Rhea couldn’t be used against him anymore, his father was done for.
Eva was confused for a second but decided to disregard his words.
She searched around for a tool until she found a crowbar. She walked towards the door and tried to pick it open with it.
Dante cocked up an eyebrow at her actions, almost resisting the urge to laugh.
Eva struggled hard, but the door was jammed too hard to care about the crowbar being used against it.
She suddenly winced in pain while the crowbar fell from her hand.
Dante quickly rushed to her side, taking her bleeding hand into his large one.
It turned out the rusted part of the door had pricked her hand, causing it to bleed.
"You should have been careful," Dante hissed under his breath as he led her towards the chair, but Eva wasn’t having it.
She pulled her hand from his.
"I told you...don’t touch me."
