Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 137: Charity Event
A week has passed since the news broke.
Eva needed to be in Lexora till the election date. When Mr. De Rossi was campaigning for the Senate seat, numerous criminal activities had occurred, and this time, they might be even worse.
Thankfully, some of her projects would take place in Lexora, as she’d signed a few deals with brands in the city, so she didn’t need to take flights every day.
Eva stared at the building before her that was shimmering with golden lights.
She was at a breast cancer charity event. She hadn’t even stepped in yet, but she could tell that the event was anything but a charity event.
She wasn’t meant to be there since she was never invited. Most politicians were invited to such events, as well as A-list celebrities who were just as twisted as they were.
Adjusting her mask—making sure it rested well on her face, she stepped towards the building and gave her invitation card to the guards stationed outside.
There were no paparazzi around which goes to show just how private the event was.
The security guard scanned her invitation card thoroughly while Eva silently prayed he didn’t suspect anything.
She’d stolen it from a woman she’d seen holding her card so carelessly ten minutes ago. Thankfully for that, else she might have to sneak inside.
"You may go in," the security guard said.
Eva gave a curt nod before she went inside, and just as she’d thought, the place didn’t look like a breast cancer charity event at all.
Most people were clad in dark outfits that made them look like they were there for official business under the golden lights.
Eva was wearing a satin pink dress that made her stand like a sore thumb and it got her stares back and front.
Thankfully, her face was concealed so they couldn’t see her true identity.
Masks were a theme for the party which went in her favor.
No doubt, Mr. De Rossi would come to this event. He would make his official announcement at the event, gaining even more support from the crowd.
Eva could have stayed home and rested, but just in case important information spilled, she would be there to collect it.
She sighted Mr. De Rossi, who wasn’t wearing a mask, speaking to someone with a man standing dangerously close to him. He was obviously a bodyguard, but he looked familiar as if she’d seen him from somewhere but she couldn’t put a finger on where.
Since she was already wearing a dress that caught everyone’s attention, she needed to be careful with everything she did from there.
Unfortunately for her, Mr. De Rossi’s eyes already caught the woman in a pink dress.
A private memo had been given to the guests, informing them of the dress code. The pink dress was certainly uncalled for.
"Watch that woman and find out who she is," he instructed his bodyguard who was one of his most trusted men who’d retired years ago to focus on his family. But since the return of Eva, Mr. De Rossi felt like his minions wouldn’t be strong enough to protect him anymore.
"Sure thing boss," the other man responded with a growl and left Mr. De Rossi’s side.
Dante was also at the event and he’d overheard everything.
He wanted to let it go, it was a woman wearing a pink dress after all, which was certainly not a dress code for the event, but he couldn’t push it past him.
He excused himself from the person he was speaking to and followed Jay, his father’s most trusted henchman.
He’d promised himself not to do anything stupid at the event. The only reason he was here was to speak with a few people he believed would support him while laying out massive benefits for them, and so far, things have been going well.
Eva went to the restroom when she felt like someone was following her.
Her heart was thundering in her chest at how quickly she’d been discovered. It’s only been twenty minutes since she went in.
After spending ten minutes in the restroom, she finally came out. Thankfully, she didn’t see anyone waiting for her there.
She couldn’t help but wonder if the whole thing had been in her head since she was still gaining attention from some of the guests due to her dress.
Standing close to Mr. De Rossi and listening to his conversation was almost impossible. She would be suspected quickly if she did that.
Thankfully, Ryan had given her a bug she could easily plant on his suit while passing and listen to his conversations.
Now, her goal was to get close enough to plant the bug.
She scanned around, searching for the old man. Fortunately, he wasn’t wearing a mask yet so it was easier.
She walked towards him, the tiny bug in her palm, ready to be planted, but when she was three feet away from him, she was immediately pulled away by a large strong hand that wrapped around hers.
She hissed under her breath but she followed the person. Struggling would only bring her attention which she’s had enough of.
Once they were out of earshot, she kicked the person who was holding her, making sure to snatch the mask off his face, and she stilled for a moment.
"What are you doing here?" Dante questioned her with a scowl on his face while he silently winced in pain.
Eva was always quick with her feet and he hadn’t seen the kick coming.
Eva was still too stunned to speak.
Dante sighted Jay from behind her, and his eyes darkened immediately. Without wasting a moment, Dante grabbed her arm and pulled her along with him.
Eva didn’t say a word yet, and he was glad she wasn’t resisting.
He didn’t see her face yet, but he could recognize those eyes from anywhere.
The nearest space they could hide in was a storage room. Once they were inside, Dante closed the door behind them.
All of a sudden, Eva yanked her wrist from his grip as if clouded by disgust.
"Don’t touch me!"
