Return of the Immortal Emperor Daddy-Chapter 90 The Director’s Conspiracy
After Wu Tian took care of that minor issue, he returned to the corporation only to be called over by Qin Yuhan.
"Tell me, are you some kind of boss?"
"No," Wu Tian shook his head.
"You’d better not be. If you dare lie to me, I won’t let you off," Qin Yuhan said seriously.
The Underworld was filled with countless dangers. Furthermore, while its existence was inevitable, the authorities were always trying to suppress it. That was why in any country’s Underworld, there was never just one Emperor. There had to be at least two to maintain a balance of power.
Wu Tian laughed, having seen right through her. "So, my dear wife *is* worried about me."
Qin Yuhan huffed, "You’re so thick-skinned! I’m not worried about you. If you spout any more nonsense, I’ll tell our little girl to ignore you from now on."
"She definitely won’t listen to you," Wu Tian said.
Hearing this, Qin Yuhan grew upset. "You..." She gritted her teeth. "I don’t get it! I’ve taken care of her for years, and you only just came back. Why is she so attached to you?"
"Because I’m amazing," Wu Tian said with a straight face.
Qin Yuhan didn’t believe he was that amazing. To her, his skills were limited to cooking, driving, and knowing a few hoodlums.
She rolled her eyes at Wu Tian and snorted, "If you’re really that great, then become one of the top ten business talents in Yang City."
"No problem. You have a mock exam next week, right? If I come in first, can you give me a few days off?" Wu Tian probed.
"If you’re really that great, you can come to work whenever you want. But that’s impossible," Qin Yuhan sighed. "I’ll be grateful if you can even make it into the top ten in the corporation."
"Your sights are set too low," Wu Tian said. "If I’m going to do it, I’ll aim to be number one in Dragon Country, or even the world."
"You’re dreaming," Qin Yuhan chided.
Become the world’s number one business talent? Impossible!
But Qin Yuhan was clever; she could see that Wu Tian was shrouded in mystery. Even though they were living together, she felt there were still unsolvable puzzles about him. She was too proud to ask, though, and knew he wouldn’t tell her anyway. To think they already had a child together, yet this man was still hiding things from her.
With her beautiful eyes, she glared at him. "Now, go back to work."
"Alright," Wu Tian nodded and leisurely left the office.
Qin Yuhan touched her chest. Wu Tian used to stare at her whenever he came in, but lately, he hadn’t been looking at her that way. Why? When he used to admire her figure with that appreciative gaze, she had felt displeased. Yet now that he had stopped, she found herself feeling strangely discontented.
As Wu Tian left Qin Yuhan’s office, Liu Feng and Ren Zhong were watching from nearby.
"Brother-in-law, did you see that? Qin Yuhan is clearly playing favorites!" Liu Feng complained.
Ren Zhong was a member of the board of directors. His share in the corporation was the third largest, behind only Qin Zhengyang and Qin Yuhan.
The seventy-something-year-old Ren Zhong grumbled, "Hmph! If she dares to show such favoritism, I won’t stand for it." He then marched into the CEO’s office with Liu Feng in tow.
But Qin Yuhan was the CEO, after all, and the corporation ultimately belonged to the Qin Family. So, Ren Zhong’s expression instantly switched to a warm, gentle smile. "My dear niece, being the CEO must be so difficult for you. But there are some people you simply can’t indulge. You need to be tough on them."
Tough on him? Qin Yuhan almost scoffed. When had she ever been truly tough on Wu Tian? She still remembered, all too vividly, how harsh he had been to her four years ago.
She had no desire to speak with Ren Zhong. The man had used his position as a director to insert his brother-in-law, Liu Feng, into the company, and Liu Feng himself was nothing but a thug with no real ability.
Still, Qin Yuhan maintained her patience. "Thank you for your concern, but I believe every executive has their own style. If a boss can get along with their subordinates like friends, I think that can be a good thing."
Ren Zhong’s attempt was rebuffed, leaving Liu Feng displeased. Why was Qin Yuhan cold to everyone else, but made an exception for Wu Tian?
"Ahem." Ren Zhong forced a smile. "Niece, we haven’t had a meal together in a long time. How about I treat you to dinner after work?"
"No need, thank you," Qin Yuhan declined immediately.
Qin Yuhan knew exactly what Ren Zhong was up to. He’d had a son, Ren Hou, late in life and wanted to play matchmaker. If Ren Hou were to marry her, the Qin Corporation might very well have to change its name.
Ren Zhong was seething inwardly. He couldn’t wait any longer! His son was already twenty-eight. If this dragged on, what would become of the Ren Family’s lineage? His son was returning from abroad today—it was the perfect time to set them up. How could she deny him even the chance to create an opportunity?
Ren Zhong’s true colors emerged as he demanded in an arrogant, accusatory tone, "Qin Yuhan, it’s just one meal. Why do you always refuse?"
"Because I don’t have time," Qin Yuhan replied indifferently.
Liu Feng whispered in Ren Zhong’s ear, "Brother-in-law, look at her. She’s so kind to that Wu Tian, but so cold to you. She clearly doesn’t respect you."
Hearing this, Ren Zhong grew even more irritated. "Qin Yuhan, let me tell you something! I am your greatest support! If you treat my son well, it’s good for you and it’s good for me. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? What’s the use of being nice to that poor boy? Can he help the Qin Corporation? I tell you, he can’t! I’ll stake my life on it—he can’t help you one bit! I’ll stake my reputation and my integrity on it—he’s a worthless bum who is nothing compared to my son, who just returned from the finance department at Cambridge University in Arthur Country!"
Regardless of anything else, Wu Tian was the father of her child. Qin Yuhan wouldn’t admit to liking him, but she couldn’t stand hearing someone speak so ill of him.
"There are a hundred Hamlets in the eyes of a hundred people," she said coldly. "Everyone’s perspective is different. I believe Wu Tian will achieve great things, and I also believe he will help the Qin Corporation."
"Heh, is that so?" Ren Zhong sneered. "You think I’m biased against that poor boy, but I’m telling the truth. How can a child from a poor family possibly compare to a son from a wealthy one like ours? It’s difficult to make you see that boy for who he really is, so how about this? We’ll make a bet."
Qin Yuhan’s face was cold. She found this all rather tiresome and didn’t respond.
"You believe in him, don’t you? Or do you, deep down, not believe in him either?"
Qin Yuhan knew he was goading her, but she couldn’t stand him looking down on Wu Tian. "What kind of bet?" she demanded.
Seeing Qin Yuhan lose her usual composure over a ’poor boy’ made Ren Zhong furious. "You’re holding a mock exam for the staff this weekend, aren’t you? Perfect. My son is also returning tonight. Since Nangong Yi left, the position of Planning Department Head is my son’s for the taking. I trust you have no objections? Several other directors have already agreed. Heh, in this mock exam, if that boy scores higher than my son, then I will personally admit—in front of the entire corporation—that I’m a blind old fool and get on my knees to him right then and there!"
"And if he doesn’t score higher than your son, what then?" Qin Yuhan asked.
