Chapter 49: 49 Chapters of nonsense

This waitress... could she be his friend? Nalan Feng couldn’t help but wonder.

"Just bring us your best," Wu Tian said to the waitress.

The waitress nodded and went to handle the order.

"Wu Tian, what are your plans for the future? Do you really intend to stay a logistics manager at my cousin’s company forever?" Qin Yujie asked, changing the subject for fear of Nalan Feng’s displeasure. He wanted to embarrass Wu Tian.

Wu Tian frowned slightly. This family gathering had laid bare the underlying problems within the Qin Family.

A thousand-mile dike can crumble from a single anthole. The Qin Family might seem to be at the height of its power right now, but the family members aren’t of one mind. Sooner or later, it’s bound to collapse. From my perspective, this is a result of Qin Zhengyang’s misguided benevolence. The old saying goes, ’When one person succeeds, their entire clan ascends with them.’ But if that clan can’t act in unison, the best course of action is to cast them aside.

A family gathering? What a joke. An army’s strength lies in its quality, not its numbers; having many family members is useless. Qin Yuhan is the only talented one. With the rest of the younger generation being mostly worthless trash like Qin Yujie, how long can a family like this possibly prosper?

"What’s wrong with that? Is he not doing a good job at my company?" Seeing Wu Tian remain silent, Qin Yuhan jumped to his defense. "As the manager of the logistics department, he can become a true executive if he works hard. One has to be down-to-earth. How can the company prosper if people are placed in high positions right from the start?"

Qin Yujie didn’t dare say another word.

Nalan Feng said with an air of false concern, "Yuhan, you can’t look at it that way. A man needs to have his own career. How can he live in the shadow of a woman? You should give Wu Tian some money to start his own business. That’s what a real man would do."

"Pfft." Hearing Nalan Feng’s words, Qin Yuhan let out a laugh.

"Yuhan, what are you laughing at?" Nalan Feng asked, confused.

"It just sounds so strange coming from you," Qin Yuhan replied. "Have you forgotten how you got your current position?"

"..." Nalan Feng was struck speechless.

He had long been proud of attending a prestigious university abroad, but in truth, he had only achieved that with the help of numerous private tutors since he was a child. And while he was indeed the CEO of the Nalan Group, he had been handed the position the moment he joined the company—a stark contrast to Qin Yuhan, who had started her career as an intern.

After Nalan Feng took over as CEO, the Nalan Group’s revenue hadn’t dropped by much, but it hadn’t grown either.

"You can’t say that," Qin Zhengxin chimed in, defending Nalan Feng. "A person’s background is a form of strength in itself. And as for Little Tian, alas, he has none."

Qin Yuhan’s expression darkened at his words. A background is also a form of strength. She had to admit that was true.

Some people were simply destined for wealth and privilege. They didn’t need much talent; as long as they weren’t complete fools, they could continue to enjoy a life of luxury. But it was different for children from ordinary families. If they wanted to make a name for themselves, their talents couldn’t be merely average. Otherwise, they were doomed to a life of mediocrity, always working for someone else.

But Qin Yuhan silently vowed to help Wu Tian. The man’s domain is the outside world, the woman’s is the home. She thought that once Wu Tian became capable enough, she would hand over the CEO position to him. Then, she would happily stay at home and take care of their baby.

These were things the proud Qin Yuhan could never say out loud.

Qin Shanfeng and Qin Zhengyang exchanged a look, both shaking their heads. Who said Wu Tian lacks a background? His background is greater than anyone else’s here. His father is *that* man, after all.

"That’s right, Little Tian. Your background isn’t good, so you should really learn from Young Master Nalan," Ye Lan added, feigning guidance. "If you could learn just a fraction of what he knows, earning 50,000 a month in the future would be no problem at all."

"Yes, yes! A monthly income of 50,000 is so much higher than your current salary," said Qin Zhengxin.

All the other relatives nodded in agreement. For Wu Tian to achieve such a thing would be impressive indeed.

Listening to their comments, Wu Tian just smiled without a word. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Fifty thousand a month? For an ordinary person, that’s not bad. But to me, it’s an absolute joke.

I am the magnificent Wutian Celestial Emperor; how could getting money possibly be difficult for me? Never mind my legendary exploits in the Immortal Emperor Realm—even as the current Wu Tian, getting money is child’s play. I could just casually concoct an Elixir, auction it off, and become fabulously wealthy.

"By the way, Young Master Nalan, what brings you back to the country this time?" Qin Zhengxin asked, intentionally drawing everyone’s attention to Nalan Feng. "I hear it’s much more fun overseas."

"I grew tired of all those foreign places. For a patriot like myself, our own country is still the best," Nalan Feng replied, putting on the airs of an elegant nobleman. "Besides, my father is opening a Gambling Stone Field, so I had to come back to take a look."

"As expected of Young Master Nalan, even the places you frequent are so high-class," Qin Zhengyang praised.

"Indeed. Those are the kinds of places for high-society people," Ye Lan said with a laugh. "I wonder, Young Master Nalan, do you have any special insights when it comes to stone gambling?"

"When it comes to stone gambling, I do have some experience," Nalan Feng began, launching into his glorious history on the topic as he noticed everyone’s interest was piqued. "I once..."

Nalan Feng basked in their admiring gazes, but just as he got to the good part, the dishes were served and the banquet began.

First came a series of exquisitely prepared cold appetizers, followed by a lavish Manchu-Han Imperial Feast. The cuisine of the Dragon Country was in no way inferior to that of foreign lands. While sampling the food, Nalan Feng, full of his own expertise, began to comment, "The heat for this phoenix-tail shark fin was off, and this Golden Crispy Sparrow is a bit too greasy. Not nearly as delicious as the one I had in Longjing. And this..."

Qin Yujie, Qin Zhengxin, and the others listened to Nalan Feng’s critique and nodded along as they ate.

"Is he right?" Qin Yuhan whispered to Wu Tian.

Wu Tian shook his head slightly, leaned close to her ear, and whispered, "He’s spouting absolute nonsense."

The warm breath on her earlobe made Qin Yuhan blush.

"Little Tian, isn’t it rather rude for you and Yuhan to be whispering over there?" Qin Zhengxin said, slightly annoyed.

"That’s right. If you have something to say, say it out loud. It’s impolite to whisper behind people’s backs," Ye Lan added.

Are these people really what you’d call elders? They call whispering rude? What about them secretly accepting favors from Nalan Feng? Isn’t that despicable?

"Since you insist I speak my mind, then I will," Wu Tian said with a sigh. "Everything Nalan Feng just said about the flaws in these dishes... is wrong."

"What?"

Everyone was stunned.

What on earth was Wu Tian talking about? How could Nalan Feng possibly be wrong? He came from a wealthy family and had tasted countless delicacies that ordinary people could only dream of. How could his judgment be flawed?

"Wu Tian, I know you want to one-up me, but you can’t just spout nonsense to do it," Nalan Feng said, a smile plastered on his face.
