Return of the Immortal Emperor Daddy-Chapter 48 The Hypocrite’s Divine Technique
Strange. A person like that couldn’t have been cultivated by an ordinary place. Could it be that ’that person’ has been grooming his son in secret? That must be the only explanation, Qin Shanfeng thought to himself.
In the eyes of others, Wu Tian was the son-in-law of the Qin Family, a fool who had married above his station to enter a life of wealth yet still wore cheap clothes. But in Qin Shanfeng’s eyes, it was not so. For Wu Tian to be the Qin Family’s son-in-law was a blessing the Qins had cultivated over several lifetimes.
One day, when that man resolved his troubles, he was bound to return for his most beloved and their son. When that time came, Wu Tian would outshine everyone. Forget Yang City; even the foremost young master of the Southern Province would be unworthy of the title "young master" in comparison.
Moreover, Wu Tian himself gave Qin Shanfeng the impression that he was anything but simple. Though his clothes were plain, his entire outfit not worth a single RMB, Qin Shanfeng sensed a stunning, sharp aura hidden behind his ordinary gaze.
How sharp was this aura? Qin Shanfeng didn’t know yet.
But Wu Tian’s composure alone was impressive. He faced the whispers of the Qin family relatives with a calm and dignified air, neither servile nor arrogant. Qin Shanfeng felt that such bearing was rare among the youth.
"Dad, this is Yuhan’s husband. Besides being somewhat good-looking, he has no other strengths," Qin Zhengxin whispered into Qin Shanfeng’s ear.
"Are you blind? Or do you think I’m as blind as you are?" Qin Shanfeng retorted bluntly.
Qin Zhengxin was dumbfounded. What kind of Soul Charming Technique does this guy know? It’s the first time they’ve met, and Dad is already defending him?
"Wu Tian, this is our first time meeting," Qin Shanfeng said with a smile.
Wu Tian nodded and simply replied, "Hello."
Qin Shanfeng was surprised. What’s with that tone? It’s like he’s a leader or a high-ranking official. The air isn’t forced; it’s completely natural. That’s not something you can just learn.
Next, Qin Shanfeng personally began introducing the members of the Qin clan to Wu Tian. Many of them didn’t even share the Qin surname, and some were so distantly related that even Qin Zhengyang wasn’t sure what to call them.
Wu Tian merely swept his gaze over them. Greet them one by one? Others might, but not him. As the Wutian Celestial Emperor, his pride was, as they say, embedded in his very bones; burn him to ash, and that pride would remain.
The fact that the family elder, Qin Shanfeng, was personally introducing Wu Tian shocked everyone. What has this kid done to deserve this? they wondered.
Even Qin Yuhan was upset. Why is Grandfather being so nice to Wu Tian?
Qin Yujie, who had been stunned ever since Wu Tian entered, finally snapped back to his senses. He exploded with rage, shouting, "Grandfather, he hit me before!"
"What? You got hit?" Ye Lan asked, full of concern.
Qin Zhengxin grew angry, pointing a finger at Wu Tian. "I knew you were no good! You hit my son, and you still have the nerve to show your face here?"
Wu Tian shot a lazy glance at Qin Zhengxin, Ye Lan, and their son, Qin Yujie. He couldn’t be bothered to respond, dismissing their words as nothing more than dogs barking.
"Enough!" Qin Shanfeng barked. "I’m not dead yet, so what is all this fuss about?"
Qin Zhengxin and his wife immediately fell silent.
Just as the room was quieted by Qin Shanfeng’s shout, a gentle voice drifted in. "I’m sorry, I’m late." All eyes turned to see a man in his twenties entering. He had a composed demeanor, handsome features, and wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses.
"Grandfather, this is my friend," Qin Yujie said happily upon seeing him arrive. He gestured toward the newcomer and shot a look at Wu Tian. "He’s not like *someone* who just mooches off his wife. My friend here is the most formidable person of the younger generation in Yang City."
Qin Zhengxin, Ye Lan, and all the other relatives nodded in agreement, each taking a turn to praise the man in front of Qin Shanfeng.
"Yes, he’s such a gentleman."
"He also sponsors many underprivileged children so they can attend school."
"He’s not just formidable; he’s a good person."
"Indeed! Old Master, if a man like him could be Yuhan’s husband, how wonderful would that be?"
It was obvious these people had been paid off. Otherwise, why would everyone sing his praises? After all, you can’t please everyone.
Besides, Qin Shanfeng couldn’t see any of this supposed goodness. He had weathered many political storms in his time. Despite his numerous accomplishments, he had always remained a county head. When he didn’t want to step down, no one could make him. When he didn’t want to advance, no one could force him into a promotion. Qin Shanfeng saw the ruthlessness hidden in the depths of the man’s eyes. This is definitely not a good person.
The man had now walked up to Wu Tian. Extending a hand, he said with a warm expression, "Hello. I’m Yujie’s friend, Nalan Feng. I’m sure you’ve heard of me."
Nalan Feng was a graduate of a renowned foreign university and had become the president of the Nalan Group at the young age of twenty. Many women considered him to be the most outstanding young man in Yang City. Many men envied him, though plenty of others would sigh and claim he had no real ability, just a good family background. Regardless, Nalan Feng was one of the most prominent figures in Yang City, his every move watched by all.
"I’ve heard of you," Wu Tian replied, but made no move to shake Nalan Feng’s offered hand.
Nalan Feng could only withdraw his hand. He kept his smile, but a hint of coldness flashed in his eyes behind his glasses.
"Then I wonder, what good things have you heard people say about me?"
"Good things about you?" Wu Tian feigned surprise. "Don’t people usually say you’re not even human?"
The atmosphere grew deathly silent. No one had expected Wu Tian to be so blunt.
Does this guy even know how to talk? Qin Yuhan worried.
Qin Yujie and the others were equally shocked by Wu Tian’s directness. Nalan Feng himself was stunned. Generally, even people who disliked him wouldn’t dare say it to his face. Besides, in a setting like this, weren’t you supposed to exchange pleasantries?
Seeing Nalan Feng’s smile stiffen, Wu Tian felt bored. The First Young Master of Yang City? In my eyes, he’s nothing special. A true hypocrite wouldn’t just let you speak ill of him. You could curse his entire family tree to his face and he would still listen with a gentle voice, his smile as warm as the sun. This Nalan Feng’s mastery of the hypocritical Divine Technique is far from complete.
"Ahem. Enough talk. It’s time to serve the food, let’s eat," Qin Shanfeng finally interjected, defusing the awkwardness.
Everyone found their seats. Qin Shanfeng, Qin Zhengyang, Qin Zhengxin, Ye Lan, Qin Yuhan, Qin Yujie, Wu Tian, and Nalan Feng were all seated at one table.
A waitress came up with a menu. "We’ve prepared two set meals for today. Which would the guests like to choose?"
"You should ask my friend," Qin Yujie said, eager to curry favor with Nalan Feng. If he couldn’t get into the Qin Corporation, a high-level position at the Nalan Group wouldn’t be a bad alternative. "Nalan Feng is a regular here and knows the menu well. He’s one of your most respected customers."
Nalan Feng smiled, accepting Qin Yujie’s gesture. He looked at the waitress and said, "Bring us your very best."
"Well..." The waitress hesitated, then her eyes shifted to Wu Tian. She remembered he had a Black Gold Card. Respectfully, she asked, "Honored guest, is that your decision as well?"
SMACK.
Nalan Feng felt as if he’d been slapped across the face. What is this waitress doing asking Wu Tian?
