Chapter 47: Chapter 47: Mysterious

Time passed, and evening finally arrived—quitting time.

In the Logistics Department, people were stunned when Qin Yuhan appeared.

"Ah, it’s the President."

"Why would the President come here?"

Why had Qin Yuhan come? It was because time was short. The family gathering at King Arthur’s Kitchen was about to start, and she was worried Wu Tian might forget and arrive late.

Seeing her, Wu Tian immediately walked over. Ignoring everyone’s stares, he left work with Qin Yuhan. As for what the others thought, he would let them think whatever they wanted.

"I heard they were classmates."

"Yeah."

"But their relationship seems a little too good, doesn’t it?"

The male staff in the Logistics Department erupted in discussion. Lin Fa was filled with envy, jealousy, and hatred.

One by one, everyone clocked out. Just as Lin Fa was leaving the company, someone suddenly stopped him.

"Wait a minute."

The plump Lin Fa turned around and saw it was Bing Hong.

"Lin Fa, I haven’t finished my work yet, but I want to go shopping tonight. I’ll leave these documents for you to handle," she said, trying to shove a stack of files into his hands.

In the past, it had always been like this. Previously, Lin Fa would have been glad that Bing Hong needed him. But now, he furrowed his brow, took a step back, and refused the documents. "This is your own work. From now on, you should do it yourself."

With that, Lin Fa walked away.

He knew he couldn’t keep chasing one person forever. He envied Wu Tian. If he wanted a girlfriend, the first thing he had to learn was to let go.

"How could you do this?" Seeing Lin Fa actually dare to refuse her, Bing Hong was enraged. She felt that he was in the wrong and that his previous declarations of love had all been fake.

"You bastard! You can’t compare to my Nangong Oppa!"

"Didn’t you say you’d always like me?"

"Was all of that a lie?"

"..."

But Lin Fa never looked back.

「At King Arthur’s Kitchen」

The entire restaurant had been reserved by the Qin Family for the day—excluding, of course, the balcony section. This left the various aunts of the Qin Family feeling a pang of both regret and curiosity. Who on earth was worthy enough to dine on the balcony?

The Qin Family, once obscure, had risen step by step thanks to Qin Zhengyang, developing from a small shop into a major corporation. Among poor families, relatives rarely interact. But after the Qin Family became a major clan, their various aunts and other relatives began to feel they were noble, too. Major clans had their own customs, such as holding a family gathering every few months.

Two people in the Qin Family held the highest status. The first was Qin Zhengyang. Without him, there would be no Qin Corporation, nor the phenomenon where one person’s success benefits all their relatives.

The second was Qin Shanfeng, Qin Zhengyang’s father, who had once served as a county magistrate. He had the ability to rise higher in the ranks but gave up the chance. He felt that while he could improve the lives of the people, he wasn’t cut out for the deceit and intrigue of the political world. So, he contented himself with being a county magistrate, bringing prosperity to his corner of the world.

Now, Qin Shanfeng and Qin Zhengyang were at King Arthur’s Kitchen, deep in conversation. The other relatives chatted amongst themselves off to the side, not daring to interrupt.

Qin Shanfeng looked at his son, his face beaming with joy.

"How is my grandson-in-law doing?" Qin Shanfeng asked. This was the issue he cared about most. His granddaughter had been extraordinary since childhood. In his eyes, all the other members of the younger generation combined were no match for her. How could he not be concerned about the matter of her marriage?

"He’s doing very well, truly worthy of being that man’s son," Qin Zhengyang said. "In fact..."

"In fact, what?" Qin Shanfeng asked with keen interest. He had also met that man before. He was of noble birth yet lacked the arrogance of a pampered heir. Not only was he a famed gentleman of letters, but he was also a great King of Soldiers with unmatched martial skills. If that man hadn’t been there to guide Qin Zhengyang, he would not have his present stature, and the Qin Family would never have achieved its current standing.

"My son-in-law, well, he..." Qin Zhengyang was about to say more when he was interrupted.

"He’s just freeloading off a woman," Qin Zhengxin interjected, walking over with his wife, Ye Lan.

"Don’t talk nonsense," Qin Shanfeng said, his disappointment in his second son evident.

"Dad, I’m telling the truth," said Qin Zhengxin.

"Yes, and he’s even working at the corporation now. What skills does he have? He’s nothing compared to my Yujie," Ye Lan chimed in eagerly. "Dad, when Yuhan gets here, you must have a talk with her. Why can Wu Tian work at the corporation, but my Yujie can’t? You know, Yujie and her are the *real* family here."

Qin Yujie was there as well, standing nearby. He knew his cousin Yuhan feared their grandfather and hoped the old man would intervene to secure him a high-ranking position in the corporation.

The last time Qin Yujie went to the company, Qin Yuhan had told him to start from the bottom. Too lazy for that, he resigned. He felt deeply wronged. After all, I’m your own family. How could you not even give me a branch presidency or at least a manager position? It’s just not right.

Qin Shanfeng usually spent his days traveling, but he had finally returned. Qin Yujie felt he had to seize this opportunity.

"Yujie, aren’t you working at the corporation?" Qin Shanfeng asked, looking at his grandson.

"No," Qin Yujie said with a wronged expression. "Grandpa, my cousin never understands me. She won’t give me any opportunities. With no chance to fulfill my ambitions, I had no choice but to fool around."

Elders always have a soft spot for the younger generation. Moved by Qin Yujie’s words, Qin Shanfeng nodded. "Alright. When your cousin arrives, I’ll have a good talk with her."

"Grandpa, I also have a friend I want to introduce you to later," Qin Yujie suddenly added.

"But this is a family gathering," Qin Zhengyang said, feeling it was inappropriate.

"It’s fine, the more the merrier! Third Aunt, Fourth Aunt, and the others... they all agreed," Qin Yujie said with a smile.

Qin Zhengxin and his wife also nodded. Qin Shanfeng wasn’t a stern man, so seeing that everyone else agreed, he had no objections.

But Qin Zhengyang couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

Finally, Qin Yuhan and Wu Tian arrived.

"Grandpa!" Upon entering, Qin Yuhan ran toward Qin Shanfeng like a little girl. Thrilled, he nodded in acknowledgment.

As Wu Tian stepped forward, all the relatives turned their gazes on him. Noticing his attire, they all shook their heads. He’s already Qin Yuhan’s fiancé, so why is he still dressed so shabbily? To them, he just seemed hopelessly poor and clueless about how to dress.

However, when Qin Shanfeng’s gaze swept over Wu Tian, his pupils shrank sharply.

Qin Shanfeng was no ordinary man. Although he had only been a county magistrate, he possessed the talent to enter the national assembly. With his seasoned eyes, he could easily judge a person’s character. How could he not discern the mix of truth and lies in Qin Yujie’s words? And yet, he found that he couldn’t see through this grandson-in-law of his at all.
