Rejected Luna: Untamed Desire Of The Lycan Alpha-Chapter 411: Running, Screaming and A Rather Questionable Leadership (II)
The impact threw Inez backwards. Her back slammed against a tree trunk harshly, and pain lanced through her veins. All the breath was knocked out of her lungs as she slid down the trunk and hit the back of her skull. The world started to spin as her magic began to recoil violently inside of her like a snapped cord.
The creature, whatever it was, started to howl.
And this time around, it was not just Inez who heard him or felt his presence; everyone did.
Levi stared at the thing only for a few seconds before muttering a furious curse under his breath; he then shifted mid-motion as his lycan burst forth. Ally followed, and so did Matt. Maybe it was the terror of facing such a thing, but their transformation was quicker than ever. Henley and Morrineth also followed suit. Several black and brown masses charged at the amorphous, just as Greta pushed Inez and Selene behind her and raised her hands in the air.
Ancient symbols started to burn on her palms just as she began to draw old pack wards.
But it wasn't enough.
The amorphous lunged forward; one massive limb slammed into Fenric and sent him crashing through two trees like he was a paper man. Matt barely dodged the attack of the amorphous thing, but he was not as fortunate, as the thing was quicker than they had anticipated. It slammed its claw on Matt's head and sent him rolling on the ground. As the thing moved, it left nothing but scorched earth in its wake. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Selene watched her pack mates getting hurt and struggling in her wheelchair. For the first time, she felt frustrated with her own helplessness and inability to help her pack mates. However, even if she felt helpless, her legs refused to move. No matter how hard she struggled, she couldn't do anything and only made her wheelchair sink even further into the wet ground.
"Stop," said Inez as she pushed herself up, her vision blurring. Her heart was thundering painfully as she took in the chaos in front of her. The fear, as well as the dawning realisation, was etched across every face as they realised how wrong they were.
They believed her now.
But it was too late.
The creature then turned to look at Selene as if realising the weakest link in the chain.
"NO!" screamed Inez as she realised what the thing was trying to do.
Something snapped inside her, and before she could stop herself, she ended up using her siren powers. She didn't sing, but she still commanded.
The air surged as an invisible force slammed into the amorphous and drove it back. The sound of flesh tearing echoed in the air just as the forest answered Inez's rage. Branches started to twist, roots started to erupt from the ground, and a few birds came twittering, pecking the amorphous wherever they could get a place. They all tried their best to ensnare the beast, even though its form was —well, liquid or maybe it was smoky. Inez didn't know, as it was in between the two forms.
For two seconds, the world seemed to have frozen.
Everyone turned to stare at her, and Inez felt the aftermath crash right into her system. Weakness started to flood through her veins and limbs. Every instinct kept telling her to run, hide or stop somewhere safe.
But at least Selene was alive; she didn't have to worry about telling Killian that she couldn't save his sister.
That was enough for the time being.
"We need to move," said Inez. Her voice was shaking, but there was an unyielding note in her voice. "Now! Or else you all can forget leaving this forest alive."
As the amorphous started to pull itself back together, they all realised that it was even more furious than it was before. They could sense its hunger and rage, and no one dared to argue with Inez any further.
Not anymore.
Without questioning a thing, they all got to their feet and ran. But it was as if the forest itself didn't approve of their running; one after another, obstacles continued to appear in their path, as if the forest had been enchanted.
Roots snagged their boots and shoes, and branches started to claw at their skin, and the ground turned all squelchy. The feeling alone was really unpleasant, as they felt the ground itself was trying to swallow them whole. Behind them, the unfinished amorphous slid after them rather than chasing them on its four; its body started to absorb obstacles instead of avoiding them and with each obstacle being swallowed, its body started to reshape.
Inez ran past the countless trees that were trying to stop them.
"If anyone trips," she shouted over the chaos. "I am not stopping. I love you all, but I love my life more, and this is not on me. It's on you, you idiots."
"Comforting... Really comforting!" Henley yelled back. He was laughing way too hard for a man who was currently sprinting for his life. And that too naked. "This is what I call inspiring leadership."
Levi appeared beside Inez without warning, silent as a shadow; his eyes scanning the forest ahead with an unnerving calm. Even though the paths had been twisted with some unspeakable magic, he was still able to trace their RV that had been hidden from them after all that earth-shattering chaos. He adjusted his pace to match Inez's effortlessly.
"Two paths ahead," he said quietly. "The left side has dipped, and the right one is climbing high. The centre has been narrowed. That's where our RV is."
"Of course it is," Inez muttered as she dodged another gnarled branch that was aiming to smack her face. "When have things ever been easy for me?"
"Oh yeah? You think it's difficult for you? Turn back," Selene snapped behind the three of them, and all of them turned to look at her. And what they saw—
