Rejected Luna: Untamed Desire Of The Lycan Alpha-Chapter 412: We All Are Going To Die
"Oh dear moon goddess," Henley muttered as he whipped his head forward. "Well, someone does have it worse than us."
Behind them, Selene's wheelchair was rattling violently as Fenric, still in his wolf form, pushed it forward. His teeth were bared, and from his pants, it was clear that his muscles were panting with exhaustion. Morrineth followed closely behind him. Her breathing was sharp, and her neatly tied bun was coming open, with locks flying awry.
The two of them looked more panicked than anyone, and honestly, somewhere deep in her heart, Inez was rather pleased to see the two of them like this.
"Centre path." Inez finally decided as they arrived at the three cross paths that were in front of them.
"How do you know that?" Morrineth questioned, panting.
"I am getting this vibe," Inez shot back coolly. "And I think that after what happened, we have established that my gut feelings are tragically accurate."
This time around, neither Morrineth nor Fenric fired any scathing remark back; in fact, the two of them were flushed red in shame. Inez looked past them, and she realised that most of the pack members were not with them, which made her worried. She hoped that they were following them, or else there was a very good chance that someone might die today.
They veered sharply to the left, plunging straight into a narrow ravine, where walls made from rocks were pressing in from both sides. Behind them, they could still hear the amorphous shrieking at them in rage as it tried to enter the ravine after them, but couldn't because of its enormous form. Its form slammed against the walls as it tried to break in, causing the rock to splatter just as its form started to reform due to the impact and the resistance it was facing.
"Ha!" Henley yelled over his shoulder. "How do you like that? I thought that you could suck in anything, you abomination?"
He hadn't even finished speaking when the amorphous started to swallow the chunks of the rock walls.
"Oh," he muttered. "That is definitely on me."
A sudden whistle cut through the noise, and three figures charged toward them from the side, landing right in front of them. They landed smoothly in front of their group despite the chaos that was going on behind them.
Levi unsheathed his claws, ready to attack as he skidded to a halt.
"Relax, it's us," a voice called cheerfully. "You need to put those claws away unless you want to stab me to death, but if you want to do that, then you at least need to buy me my last supper. That's the least I deserve for this unjust death, or else I am going to haunt you to death."
Henley groaned. "Matt."
Matt walked out past the tangled vines. He straightened up and then grinned at them wildly. Dirt was smeared across his face, and it seemed like he had done a really poor job in cleaning it because the spot that should have been cleaned looked even dirtier. "You know what, I have no idea what that thing is, but..." He gestured vaguely at the amorphous behind them and stated in a low voice, "But I am telling you, this was not on my scouting card."
Behind him stood Ally, who was doubled down, hands resting on her knees as she breathed in and out, trying her best to regain control of her breathing but failing miserably at that, as she had run so hard that she was now nursing a stitch on both sides of her waist.
"Ally, Matt," Morrineth breathed a sigh of relief. "Fortunately, the two of you are alright. I was worried that you two were lost."
Ally rolled her eyes. "I know the importance of staying together at the moment. I refuse to get buried in this horrible place." She pulled a leaf stuck to her jacket and remarked, "Do you all realise that this forest is enchanted?"
"It's not the forest that is enchanted," corrected Matt. "It's that thing that is controlling the forest. It was created by the magic of a witch; it has some remnants of the witch's magic within it. Especially when it was not created in the same manner as it was supposed to be created."
"You mean to say the witch transferred her magic into it?" Ally asked, sounding horrified.
"No." Matt frowned and explained, "She did it without knowing. Magic is a dangerous field; if you don't know what you are doing…there will be consequences for it."
"That—"
Whatever Ally was about to say was cut off when the amorphous slammed into the ravine entrance; the stones cracked under the force. Its surface started to pulse, and the many mouths on its many faces started to scream out of agony. However, the thing continued to force itself inside the ravine, becoming narrower as it started to adapt.
Matt's face went tense. "Well…that is not good."
"Any brilliant ideas?" Ally asked as she turned to look at the group in front of her. When no one spoke, she snapped, "What? You all cannot come up with one plan?"
Matt tapped his chin as he looked at the thing that was trying to wedge its way inside the narrow ravine. "Well, hypothetically speaking… if someone had a way to destabilise the cohesion of that thing—"
Inez whipped her head around to look at the man. She narrowed her eyes and stated, "If you are … hypothetically speaking, withholding any kind of information from us, please don't. This is not the time to do that."
Matt raised his hands in the air and said, "Hey, don't get angry at me. This is just a hypothetical situation. Its not like I am speaking from personal experience."
The creature surged forward, and part of its mass slithered over the walls of the ravine. Everyone grimaced at the blood that not only looked like it was a rather bad spillage of tar but also smelled bad.
"I think there is no time for hypothetical talk," said Fenric as he shifted back into his human form and took out the pants that he was carrying with him. "It's time to do something, or else we're all going to die."
Selene shot him a blaming glance. "I am going to sacrifice you if we end up in a situation where we are going to die."
