Penelope Askary took a deep breath.

She felt very tired. Every day, there are always new problems that arise in her life and those around her. And now, Isabella Lysander has to suffer from amnesia. The woman remembered everything but completely forgot about Ethan Askary’s existence. Isabella didn’t even remember that Penelope Askary had an older brother. What is this? Why did Isabella just forget about Ethan? Was it because of Ethan’s previous actions that made Isabella so sad and hurt? Penelope knew that cases like this happened a lot in her old world when she was still living as Sienna. It was as if Isabella locked her memories because she didn’t want to remember the person related to her sadness.

The woman opened her eyes when she heard the door open. She turned his head around and snorted softly when she saw Edmund Gerwyn enter the guest room. Tonight, Penelope was too tired to return to Gerwyn’s mansion even though she can use Chris’s teleportation magic. Because of this, Helios gave her a guest room that she could share with Edmund.

"Penny—"

"Don’t talk to me," said Penelope, cutting off Edmund’s sentence. The woman stood up from the chair and massaged her temples. "I told you not to talk to me. I’m tired, I want to rest."

Edmund clenched his jaw and held Penelope’s arm as the woman passed him.

"We have to talk, Penelope Askary!" Edmund looked firmly at his wife. "You have to listen to me because I am your husband."

Penelope jerked Edmund’s hand away and laughed mockingly. "Oh, so, because you’re my husband you feel entitled to boss me around as you please? You want me to be a puppet that is always in your prison, is that right?"

Edmund was surprised to hear Penelope’s words. The man had never seen Penelope like this before. Maybe, the last time Edmund saw Penelope behave like this was when Sienna had not yet possessed Penelope’s body.

"What did you say, Penelope Askary?" Edmund growled. "Did you think all this time I had imprisoned you?"

"If not, then what?" Penelope challenged. "You always forbid me to do whatever I want even though it could help you and other people! You also told me to stay quietly in the mansion, enjoy your wealth, and do nothing! Edmund Gerwyn, I’m a normal human being! I want to do whatever I want. I’m not a criminal you have to jail all the time!"

"I did that for your safety, Penelope!" Edmund no longer called his wife by her nickname. Right now, the Duke felt very annoyed, for some reason. "Why can’t you see my sincerity in protecting you?! Is it wrong if I want you to be fine and not get involved in the problems and chaos in the De Louis empire?"

"If you forget, then I must make you remember, Duke Edmund," Penelope said in a cold tone. "I am the reason all of this chaos happened. Since I’m still alive, all the problems happen every day. The laws of this world want me to die, the Goddess Oizys wants me to suffer and spread terror to destroy the empire. All of that happened because of me! Automatically, I have to help solve all of these problems. I’m not a weak woman you always have to protect, Edmund Gerwyn! I am a strong woman, I have power, and I can fight against anyone who wants to harm me, my children, and the people I love!"

Edmund was silent. The man clenched his fists at his sides. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"And, you still remember the events that happened in our first life."

"Do you think I can forget that incident that easily, huh?!" shouted Edmund without realizing it. Penelope was surprised but the woman still gave her husband a sharp look. "That woman, Isabella Lysander, she was the source of your suffering in your first life! She made you suffer, turned you into a cruel woman, and forced me to kill you! Do you want me to forget everything and be nice to that evil woman?! She even put you in a dangerous state just now because you used all of your mana to save her! She is a troublesome woman!"

Penelope Askary shook her head in disbelief and pushed Edmund. "I can’t believe you could be this evil, Edmund Gerwyn. I am disappointed in you. I know you love me very much and only want to protect me but I assure you that the Isabella Lysander who lives in this life is a very good woman. And, I will never forgive you if you dare hurt my good friend like that, Edmund Gerwyn."

Edmund, who couldn’t control his anger, suddenly grabbed a vase that was nearby and then threw it against the wall while screaming in anger. Seeing that, Penelope froze. At first, she felt afraid. But, the Duchess began to feel angry. Before Penelope said things she would regret later, a pink magic circle appeared under her feet. Penelope blinked, and so did Edmund. The pink light began to surround Penelope and suddenly, Penelope Askary disappeared right in front of Edmund’s eyes.

"Penny...?" called Edmund in a choked tone. His anger began to disappear and now, fear and anxiety began to take over his body. The Duke looked for Penelope all over the room but couldn’t find his beloved wife. "PENELOPE ASKARY!"

Ethan Askary meets Isabella Lysander in the backyard of the Abelavish imperial palace.

According to one of the maids who looked after Isabella, the woman went straight to the backyard after finishing her dinner. Ethan walked slowly. His face was still pale and he clenched his hands into fists at his sides. His heart still hurts a lot. The fact that Isabella didn’t remember him at all as if his existence had never existed in Isabella’s life, made Ethan devastated. The man stood next to the chair occupied by Isabella, making Isabella turn her head around and blink. The woman smiled awkwardly.

"Err... Ethan Askary, right? Penny’s older brother?"

Ethan Askary smiled bitterly and nodded. His eyes flashed with regret. "Yes."

"Hi," said Isabella. "I’m sorry because my attitude was very impolite. I’m just not used to meeting strangers and I never knew that Penny had an older brother. So far, I have never met you or heard any information about you."

"Mm." Ethan felt like there were hundreds of sharp knives in his throat which made it painful to swallow. His eyes felt so hot and he really wanted to cry. He wanted to scream, angry at the world and Goddess Elleia for separating Isabella from him. "Can I... accompany you here, Isabel?"

"Of course. I’m really happy to have someone to chat with." Isabella asked Amy to make more tea for Ethan. "I was confused as to why I was suddenly in the Abelavish imperial palace. But, Penny told me to stay here because the situations in the De Louis empire were chaotic. Is that true, Ethan?"

"Mm," Ethan muttered. The man couldn’t bear to look at Isabella’s beautiful face, who had forgotten about him. His chest hurts a lot. "Here is a safe place for you." Then, Ethan’s eyes fell on Isabella’s flat stomach. Inside her stomach, the child is growing and developing. The child of his and Isabella’s love. "Is... your stomach okay, Isabel?"

"Yes? My stomach?" Isabella looked down and rubbed her stomach. "My stomach is fine. Strangely, I often feel hungry even though I’ve eaten a lot, Ethan! You don’t know how much food I’ve consumed but I’m still hungry. Isn’t this strange?"

"No," shook Ethan. The man smiled gently. "That’s not strange at all. If you’re hungry, eat a lot. If you want a certain food, tell me. I will find whatever food you want even if I have to sacrifice my own life."

Isabella blinked and the next second the woman laughed. A laugh that Ethan really loved. How Ethan wanted to hug Isabella right this second. But, Penelope told him not to do things that would make Isabella afraid and stay away further from him.

"Really? Can I ask you for any food?"

Ethan nodded.

"Okay, I’ll think about it later." Isabella nodded and stood up. Amy immediately approached her and held her hand. "Ethan, it’s getting cold. I will go to my room to rest now. You too, get some rest. See you tomorrow, Ethan. You are a very pleasant conversation partner."

Ethan nodded. His vision began to blur as Isabella got further away. Then, the man looked down and his shoulders shook. The successor of Duke Askary cried because of the pain that was increasingly tormenting him.

Meanwhile, Isabella was already in the room. The woman sat on the bed and looked down. Her hands clenched tightly onto her thighs. The tears then fell and Isabella tried hard not to sob so as not to be heard by other people outside the room.

"Lady Isabella," Amy called. The maid approached Isabella and knelt in front of the woman. In just a few days since Helios Rune Abelavish gave her the task of serving Isabella Lysander, she already felt very close and really loved her. "If it only hurts you, why did you do that?"

Isabella bit her lip and closed her eyes.

"I have to do that, Amy," Isabella said in a choked voice. "I have to stay away from Ethan and make Ethan hate me. Because, I am the source of suffering for Ethan Askary, Penelope Askary, and Edmund Gerwyn." Isabella opened her eyes and looked at Amy. "I really love Ethan but I have to leave him. This is the only way for Ethan to forget me and leave me. I had to pretend to have amnesia in front of him and everyone."
