Chapter 49: Chapter 49

Evan and his team stopped at that moment. Jonah smiled brightly as he approached Evan again.

"It seems you have an extra buddy with you, how about you lend him to us. One of our guys went to the city and he hasn’t returned, now that you have mentioned it, I believe he got hold up there."

Without facing Jonathan, Evan blocked Jonathan’s front view.

"He wouldn’t be valuable to you. He is merely a private that went through his awakening a few days ago. I brought him along because I have a non-combative role for him in the team."

Ezra’s expression darkened when he heard Evan’s words. He hissed as he looked away.

’What a joke’

He sounded in his mind.

Jonah was disappointed by the response he got.

"We will need someone, and...."

Before he could finish his words, Jonathan stepped forward, walking past Evan.

"Thank you, Captain. I believe I will be fine with Captain Jonah and his team."

Jonathan said as he stared directly into Jonah’s eyes. He wondered why Jonah was targeting him. Maybe he probably wanted to see why Greyson praised him that day.

Well, that might be his concern, but he wanted to see how capable Jonah and his men were, then he would show them his capabilities as well.

Evan was surprised by Jonathan’s words. He was angry that Jonathan didn’t see what he was trying to do.

Evan wanted to say something when Jonah quickly rushed in.

"Thank you, Captain Evan, and in case you don’t know, I actually know Jonathan Hayes.

When Alphacrest invaded some days ago, Jonathan was among the martial artists that defended this state, and he was the top performance on the battlefield, according to the commander who led the attack."

Jonah approached Jonathan as he continued.

"We didn’t make it on time so Jonathan, and his new awakening mates had to help us clean the mess, so no matter what, I am going to protect him with my life, because I owe him one. we all owe him one."

Evan was surprised that Jonathan knew Captain Jonah, and Jonathan even did that much on the battlefield that day.

He doesn’t know Captain Jonah that much, but when a captain gives his words, it should be taken with utmost trust.

"I leave him in your hands."

Evan said as he turned leaving quickly. Ezra couldn’t help but smile brightly at the conclusion of Jonathan saga.

Here he was thinking Jonathan would get them killed, but the ungrateful scumbag decided to join another team.

Although Captain Jonah had the stronger team here, he always had a record of his teammate dying.

’His words on protection can never been taken seriously’

Ezra sounded happy in his mind. He would’ve loved to see how Jonathan gets to die, but it doesn’t matter, he would still get the best laugh of his life once he heard the bastard died.

When Evan and his team left, Jonah cleared his throat.

"Hey soldier. I might’ve said I would protect you, but I can’t offer you one hundred percent protection. You have to be smart and strong if you want to really survive. This is not like the battlefield you experienced some days ago, this is more like a warzone."

Without looking at Jonah’s face, Jonathan walked past him.

"I don’t need your protection. I can protect myself."

Everyone’s expression darkened when they heard that, however, Jonah quickly got his composure back with a smile.

"Of course you can. You have to be able anyway, otherwise you will die."

Jonathan didn’t put ears to Jonah’s words. He faced the path Jonah had planned to take.

"Shouldn’t we be moving already."

Jonathan said as he faced the direction fully.

"Of course we should."

Jonah said as he took another path Immediately. His men followed suit and Jonathan followed them from behind. Slowly, Jonathan moved past all Jonah men and was running side by side with Jonah.

Jonah was surprised by this, although he wasn’t running at full pace, Jonathan shouldn’t be able to match up with the speed he was currently on.

He increased his pace a little and Jonathan was still able to run side by side with him.

Jonah finally gave up on the speed aspect and decided to ask Jonathan some questions.

"According to Commander Greyson. You defeated a stage four Summoner. That is a great feat to hold as a Private.

I bet Captain Evan and his team didn’t know that."

Jonathan’s forehead folded a little. Jonah made him remember his comrades that he lost that day.

It was still very fresh in his head.

"I didn’t do it alone, Commander Greyson did all the hard work, and by the way, where is Commander Greyson?"

Jonah didn’t respond to that. They went through some buildings in the base before Jonah finally stopped at the entrance of the vehicle garage. He voiced out immediately he stopped.

"Commander Greyson went to his hometown to protect it. More like to save his daughter."

Jonathan’s eyebrows moved a little.

"What about, Base Commander Charles Wesley."

He was expecting to see Charles when they landed, and he wondered what role Charles would be playing on this. Last time, Charles didn’t do anything, definitely Charles would have to participate in this, otherwise he would be open to questioning, and of course, if only the leaders were good.

Now that Jonathan thinks about it, he wondered if Charles was corrupt. Although Charles bent to the new rules of Alphacrest, he had no idea if Charles was corrupt from the beginning.

Jonah voiced out as he slowly entered the dark garage.

"Base Commander Charles Wesley has left the city to rescue as many people as possible. He went to Oak town first."

Jonathan eyebrows raised to his forehead when he heard Oak town, that was his town, and also, Chole town.

What a joke.

Jonathan shook the thought away as his eyebrows quickly moved to cover his eyes, but just as he shook the thought away, he replayed the two sentences Jonah had just said.

"I thought you said you didn’t know the city was on fire!"

Jonathan roared when he came to that realization. He found it strange when he first heard it, but now it doesn’t feel strange anymore.

Jonah and his men stopped at that moment. Jonathan was expecting a response from Jonah, but he got nothing. He wanted to voice out when the entrance of the garage was sealed.

DOOM!

Jonathan quickly turned to the entrance and it was sealed completely by a thick earth wall.

’What the hell is going on!

what is this!!’

Jonathan didn’t sound surprised in his head. He was angry when he said those words.

"What does it matter if the city is on fire?

Is it that surprising if the city is under fire, it’s not like Baythorn state has a formidable history to it, and moreover why would a state in Dreamway have a formidable history.

It might be formidable in the eyes of the dwellers, but in Alphacrest, Baythorn state and the whole Dreamway is nothing but a termite hill waiting to be run over by a truck."

Jonathan eyebrows raised to his forehead when he heard the voice. It sounded more like the stage four Summoner.

Jonathan turned to face the direction the voice came from and the stage four Summoner was seen coming out from the darkness, entering the scene.

Just as he came to full view, the light in the garage switched on at that moment.

Jonathan breath vibrated as he stared at the stage four Summoner.

He couldn’t believe that Jonah and his team were betrayers, part of the corrupt leaders all along.

The stage four Summoner stopped and continued with a smile.

"It took you quite a long time to understand, but do you understand now? Even your own people know that Dreamway would lose the war, and so they have chosen their side quickly.

Now, once the war ends, my country would grant mercy on the poor souls that knew their fate beforehand, and decided to do the right thing."

Jonathan’s facial expression was ugly now.

The Summoner looked at Jonathan with a big smile.

"How surprising was this. I bet you didn’t see it coming. I can see the enormous zeal in your eyes, but what are you going to do now?"

Jonathan was silent for a while before his lips formed a half smile, which caused the faces of Jonah and his team to darken a little, including the Summoner.

"It wasn’t much of a surprise I must say."

Jonathan voiced out with a little laughter. He faced the summoner with a big smile, which further scared everyone.

"You see, I already know that Dreamway leaders are all corrupt and have sold Dreamway way before the war even started.

The first troops that are going to be deployed to the border would be ambushed and would all be killed, and then an attack would be sent to the headquarters of Crimson Sunset, and Crimson Sunset would fall.

I could continue on what is going to happen next, but of what benefit would that be, it would only be back memories that I don’t want to recall."

Jonathan’s words stunned everyone to the bone, especially the Summoner.

"What memories are you talking about?"

The summoner couldn’t help but ask with his eyes wide open. He couldn’t believe that Jonathan knew their entire plan. The ones he knew.

Jonathan cheeks raised to his eyes seeing the surprise look on the summoner faces, including Jonah and his team, however his expression darkened at once, and his body was starting to emit a strange aura.

"I was thinking the first person that I would get to kill in Dreamway is one of it leaders, but it seemed It would be a task force team.

What a pathetic downgrade compared to the imagination I was having."
