Chapter 38: Chapter 38

Jonathan was surprised by Hillary’s words. He thought she wanted to say something very important to him, but it turned out she was angry with the response he gave her.

Jonathan thought of clearing the air but Hillary voiced out again.

"I see you want to do whatever it takes to take my spot, but trust me, you are not ready for it. You don’t know how much work I have put into my progress. A newcomer like you would never understand what it takes to be me."

Jonathan was confused by Hillary’s words. Now that he thinks about it, she truly was a kid.

"I don’t know what you are thinking about Hillary, but I am not in a competition with you.

Why should I be in a competition with you anyway, you are just a kid."

Hillary was dumbfounded by Jonathan’s words.

’A kid.’

Hillary mutters to herself. Before she could recover from the shock, Jonathan walked past her heading to the headquarters.

Hillary’s expression became ugly.

’You are so fucking dead, Jonathan Hayes!"

Her eyebrows pushed to her eyes completely.

Jonathan arrived at his room. He checked the clock and there were ten minutes remaining before he would recover his energy fully. He doesn’t plan to sleep tonight. He plans to take his D ranked skill to a plus sign then he would focus on his remaining skills.

A few minutes later, the system notification for energy refills came right up. Without wasting any time Jonathan entered the magical path training ground.

"D ranked: Body Slam"

"Level: 10"

He continued with his D ranked skill progression again. The goal was to have the plus sign on his D ranked skill and his other skills. Jonathan trained for hours, longer than when he was aiming for level one to level ten before he finally got a plus sign on the skill.

[You have experienced a breakthrough on the body slam skill.

D ranked skill— Body Slam.

Progression— +]

Jonathan smiled brightly when he saw the plus sign, now it was time to see if what he suggested was true.

"D ranked: Body Slam."

"Plus One."

Immediately Jonathan said the words. His body experiences a terrifying shock wave of energy. He took a step forward and instantly appeared close to the wall. His movements were flawless and the power was very destructive as well, but with all of that, the energy he used to perform the skill was lesser than when he performed it at level ten, meaning his theory was correct.

Now that he knew his theory was correct, he wondered how many pluses would be there or was it an endless thing. Well, the important thing was whenever he gets a plus sign, the energy he uses to perform the skill would be reduced, that means it might get to a point where he might not require energy to perform the skill anymore.

Jonathan couldn’t think of what that would feel like.

Now that he had advanced his D ranked skill to a plus sign. It was time to focus on his C ranked skill.

He was able to carry his D ranked skill from level zero to a plus sign within a day, he wondered if he would be able to do the same for his C ranked skill regardless of the rank.

Jonathan took his stance before calling the skill out.

"C ranked: Spinning Kick!"

Jonathan delivered a stunning kick in the air and it caused a whistling sound in the dojo.

The amount of energy it consumed surprised Jonathan. It was significantly bigger than the D ranked skill, but it was understandable because his Body slam was nowhere near the Spinning Kick at all.

The difference was massive despite the Plus sign on his D ranked skill.

Jonathan wasn’t happy by this, because he saw the plus sign as a cheat code to make an E ranked skill to be as strong as a D ranked skill. He wasn’t sad for long because he knew what he needed to do. He just has to add more plus to his D ranked skill to make it equal to it.

Although he was eager to do that right away, he was more eager to see how strong a C ranked skill could get.

Jonathan changes his stance and performs the Spinning Kick again.

"C ranked: Spinning Kick."

As he uttered the words, his legs were covered with a grey form of energy and it delivered a resounding round kick in the air.

Seeing the color of the energy coating his legs, Jonathan noticed that each skill had its own energy color. He could use the color to identify the rank of the skill somebody was performing, so if he was to perform the Spinning Kick in front of everyone, they would know immediately that he was performing a C ranked skill.

It wasn’t a bad thing, with this he could know the rank of the skill his enemies would be performing as well, however he wouldn’t know the level of the skill.

Jonathan took his stance again. He wants to be one step ahead of everyone that knew him, since everyone would know the ranks of each skill he performed, his trump card would be the level he had obtained from the skill.

For this, he must progress all his skills to the maximum level.

Jonathan continued his training. He was only able to carry his C ranked skill to level two before the day ran out. He waited in the magical path several times to recover his energy before he was able to take it to that extent. The rank of a skill definitely played an important role in the skill.

The next day, Jonathan wasn’t able to obtain the bronze medal, Hillary dusted him off on all the drills, so he decided to progress on his magical path. Since Everyone knew he was at the second stage but they didn’t know where exactly he was on it, advancing to the third stage wouldn’t raise an eyebrow.

Advancing to the third stage was a different ball game, Jonathan finally saw why Greyson was still at the fourth stage and while many of the instructors were at the fifth stage, it was simply difficult to progress further, this made him wonder how Hillary was able to enter the fourth stage at eighteen.

Well, she came from a noble family.

Five Days Later.
