Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 524: Why Should The All-King Help You?
"Who knows," Exalon said with a half smile, "Even the All-King is not completely sure of what he can do.
But from what I’ve seen, the All-King should be able to do just about anything as long as he was powerful enough to do it."
"Hmmm," Memphis thought for a moment, "So he can help me reach the immortal tier?" She asked.
Exalon raised his hands to the side and shrugged his shoulders, "I don’t know, that’s not what I said.
I’m saying no one knows until he tries,"
"Oh,"
"And besides, let’s assume he can actually do it. If the All-King wishes to help anyone ascend to the rank of immortals, you wouldn’t be his first choice," Exalon said with a cunning light flashing across his deep pale yellow eyes.
"Why not?" Memphis asked. After all, she was helping Kael get stronger now, technically, Kael was the one who owed her.
Exalon chuckled, "I know what you’re thinking, Memphis. But you need to see things from the perspective of the All-King.
I do not speak for him or his vision, but imagine how it feels to know that the only reason you are helping him is so that he can help you avoid trouble.
From the very beginning of your interaction, you have stated the price for helping him and the All-King might as well take your word for it and treat it all like a transaction.
The lion kings closest to the All-King these days have offered help without anything in return. They have given gifts without expecting anything in return; they seem to want to conquer the universe for him without expecting anything in return.
There is a whole line of people to whom Kael owes favors even if he is not obligated to pay them back.
Tell me Memphis, by the time Kael can actually help you reach the immortal tier, he would have already fulfilled his own side of the bargain by helping you avoid trouble.
Why then would he go out of his way to ignore those loyalists and help you out?
It’s just not worth the effort, if I’m being honest."
*Silence!*
Memphis didn’t speak for a few seconds, trying to read the hidden layers that Exalon wanted her to see. Exalon didn’t want to be blatant and say it out just like that.
He was hoping that Memphis would be smart enough to catch the drift and understand what he was trying to say.
"I understand," Memphis said.
Luckily, Memphis was smart enough.
"If I officially join your side, I stand a better chance of achieving Immortality, right?" Memphis asked as she turned to look at Exalon so that she could see his face.
Her green eyes stared intensely at the moustache, the thick eyebrows, and the grey hair beside his face. She searched for any signs of inconsistencies.
"Yes," Exalon agreed, "Or, do you plan on achieving Immortality by siding with Ma’abu?
Staying neutral would at best earn you peace for a short period of time."
Exalon’s words struck her like a hammer. It was because they were talking about something she really desired for herself more than anything else in the world.
Immortality.
Indeed, no one, not even Ma’abu can help her pave a road to immortality.
"I’m guessing you want to avoid interference and trouble as much as possible. I understand.
But what if there is more to gain from choosing a side than staying away? And not just any side, the right side.
Even if Ma’abu came right now, he still couldn’t offer the benefits that the All-King can.
Besides that, have you seen the other benefits that the Primordial Supporters have gotten?
Do you know I have never personally met anyone who joined our system and desired to leave?
Even the traitors and betrayers didn’t wish to leave. Those who joined were unwilling to change sides.
Just imagine how many benefits there are.
Then think of the future benefits to come," Exalon said.
Memphis hesitated before saying the words that came to her mouth. By default, she wanted to respond with nonchalance and tell Exalon that she had no intention to join.
But then...
"Hmm, I’ll think about it," She said to Exalon.
Exalon pressed his lips together, "That’s what a lot of people say, then they forget to get back with feedback," He said honestly.
"I won’t forget," Memphis shook her head and turned her head in another direction.
"Okay then, what about giving us your answer before the end of the day, or before the All-King and the rest are done," Exalon suggested.
He was giving her an ultimatum. Thank goodness it was Memphis he was talking to, not some other tyrannical lion with a bad temper.
Memphis sighed, but relented, "Fine, I’ll give you all my final answer by then," She said.
After that, Memphis’s green eyes glowed and the force of time consumed her. She took a step forward and in that instant, she was gone.
Exalon was left all alone, standing between two gigantic time bubbles with the multicoloured sky blanketing over him.
Exalon couldn’t help but wear a cocky smile on his face. He remembered what Katari had said to him not long ago.
"Unreliable my ass. I’m the most reliable guy the All-King has!" Exalon said to himself while puffing out his chest.
He was not a Magus Lion or a Spirit Lion, but he had successfully engaged in a minor psychological game just now with Memphis.
Every word, every benefit mentioned, every implication of the fear of missing out, Exalon had taken into account.
This was possible not because of a natural talent but because of the experience Exalon had gathered over the years.
To think that Memphis was not aware of this would be irresponsible. She probably knew but was enamoured by the possibility of achieving Immortality.
Exalon was proud, if this conversation led to what he wanted, he would be very glad. He might even be able to boast soon that he was the reason why Memphis decided to join the Primordial Supporters.
"Ah, such is life," Exalon said as he smiled and walked forward. He decided to go on a stroll to explore the continent.
Meanwhile, time was moving fast within Kael’s time bubble, the All-King was changing.
