Reincarnated As A Lion In Another World-Chapter 516: Don’t Be Lazy
"Chloe, are you jealous?" Alora asked.
Chloe had been her friend for a long time and she could tell when Chloe was trying to be passive-aggressive.
Chloe wasn’t even hiding it, she was doing a bad job at it.
"Jealous? Me?" Chloe looked at Alora’s image through the mirror and asked in a sarcastic tone.
"Why would I possibly be jealous? We’re friends, and if you like Kael too, I don’t mind sharing him with you." Chloe said.
"Don’t say it like that, it sounds disgusting," Alora said.
"But that’s what we are doing, isn’t it?" Chloe asked, "You want to fuck the person that I’ve been fucking.
What is it, Alora? Is it that you can’t just DK without trying to be better than everyone, including me?
You always have to prove that you are superior..." Chloe’s voice choked up as she no longer hid the mocking gaze in her hazel eyes.
"What are you talking about?" Alora was genuinely confused.
"I wouldn’t be here if..."
"If what?" Chloe raised her voice.
"..." Alora didn’t know how to answer besides keeping her face cold and expressionless.
At the end of the day, she could have still been rejected. It wasn’t like she was afraid of death, Alora clearly had a choice.
Chloe knew this.
"Aren’t you being a little selfish? I thought you came here to see me.
Besides, is Kael not permitted to have more than one consort?" Alora asked.
"I don’t care if he has one hundred consorts as long as none of them is like you!" Chloe said, her wings flared out slightly in a threatening manner.
Alora calmed down, refusing to be offended by such petty antics.
Wasn’t Chloe supposed to be her friend? She found it hard to believe that their friendship would suddenly end because they were now tied to the same lion.
"Chloe, what is this about?" Alora squinted her eyes and asked.
She wasn’t asking out of warmth but from a curious point of view.
She couldn’t care less about how Chloe felt about her at the moment, but she wanted to know for the sake of future interactions.
Chloe didn’t respond, she continued looking at Alora’s image in the mirror. Subconsciously, she compared herself to Alora and could see the blatant differences.
Both of them were very beautiful with their own unique charms, true form, or humanoid form.
But their auras were just too different. Even their postures and the way they carried themselves were different.
Chloe and Alora still had that familiar look of superiority that was etched into the bones of almost every lion and lioness.
But there were still differences. Alora’s chin was almost always upturned slightly, as if she were looking down on the whole world.
One couldn’t talk to Alora without feeling like she was a narcissist who saw herself as the most important person.
This naturally helped Alora define who she was and what she wanted to do, hence why she hardly respected anyone’s opinions.
As bad and uncomfortable as it may make others feel, it couldn’t be denied that Alora’s mindset was effective and would have worked in any other setting if Kael were not there.
Chloe on the other hand seemed more relaxed, and she looked a lot more considerate.
Emotions could be read from her eyes and Chloe didn’t have the energy to keep a cold, indifferent expression like Katari, Alora, or Nbaye.
If she felt something, she would wear it on her face. Her shoulders were also relaxed, giving the impression that she loved being free to do what she wanted.
The average Joe would appreciate Chloe’s mindset but those who knew could tell that Alora would go farther in life and in terms of success and achievements.
That was just the brutal facts.
If Chloe were dropped off on Planet Kareem without any powers, her mindset could doom her to a life of mediocrity.
The only saving grace would be the natural lion instincts that she was born with.
Chloe felt...inferior.
"Oh," Alora seemed to come to a realization as she diverted her eyes back to the mirror.
"You think I will outshine you," Alora said.
Chloe sighed, her shoulders slumped beside her and her eyes trailed the edges of the window down until she was staring at the marble floor.
"I don’t think you’ll outshine me, I KNOW you will outshine me," Chloe said.
Alora closed her eyes and took a deep breath, "I have no intention of surpassing the status you have in Kael’s heart.
And even if I do, it won’t be something I will do knowingly.
Rest assured, I have no ill will toward you or Kael anymore."
"It’s never your intention Alora," Chloe decided to talk, agreeing inwardly that she felt truly inferior to Alora.
"Even if you don’t intend to do it, you will still start shining because out of all who are here, you’re the only one who actually knows where she wants to go and has her own specific goals.
Every other one of us is blindly following Kael. Even Nbayé knows that Kael gives her curiosity meaning and direction.
We have grown used to Kael and without him, we could be lost.
But you? You want power and you’re not exactly trying your best to hide it. You know what to do and won’t wait for Kael to order you around," Chloe said.
"I think you mistake knowing what to do for being better or superior, Chloe," Alora interjected.
Chloe shook her head, "No, that’s just a part of it.
Kael hates weakness. And although he has never tried to dispose of anyone too weak to be with him, we can still imagine that he’s just one bad mood away from doing something like that.
Alora, you are strong, and you are getting stronger every day.
What do you think will happen when Kael starts comparing us to you in the future?" Chloe asked.
This was a serious question that only she was thinking of. She knew Alora and knew that Alora would always be restless, constantly trying to fulfil the purpose she had given herself.
Only a few like Katari and Nbayé may be able to match up with her.
But besides those ones, what about Chloe and the rest?
Chloe shivered at the thought of Kael deciding to start picking favourites.
"That’s nonsense, Chloe," Alora scoffed, "You’re just being paranoid and stupid for no reason.
Sorry to say.
Did it ever occur to you that Kael would not allow you to remain weak if he could help it?"
Chloe was silent.
"Weren’t you the one who told me how Kael constantly gave out resources to you all to help in your evolutions?
You even told me that Kael gave two whole dragon corpses to Katari, at least, that’s what you heard from Olivia.
It seems to me that the only way Kael would dispose of you is if you are lazy..."
Alora suddenly hung her mouth. Her blue eyes widened like she had just entered a state of enlightenment.
Chloe turned to look at Alora’s frozen expression.
"Yes, that’s it. You may not understand Kael because you take his words literally and never read too deeply into them.
Kael doesn’t hate weakness per day, he hates weakness derived from laziness.
Isn’t that why he’s still helping you all get stronger? Isn’t that why he’s bringing Ozia close to him?
Isn’t that why you all have the power level you have now? Kael has offered you all power and watched how you used it.
That you all still remain means that you haven’t disappointed him.
Unless...
You plan on disappointing him.
Chloe? Do you plan on slacking off? Is that why you feel threatened by my presence?"
Chloe grunted and then began to walk off.
"This conversation was meaningless Chloe, and I hope you don’t use it as a foundation to end our friendship.
Because if you do that, I promise you, I will not show you mercy," Alora said calmly.
The way she dropped her threat so casually made Chloe stop in her tracks.
"Hmmm, there’s a difference between a friend and a pawn, Alora," Chloe squeezed her fist, subconsciously summoning a low-pressure wind that swept through the room.
Alora scowled, "If you are indeed thinking of slacking, you shouldn’t be looking at me.
At most, my actions will just expose your laziness, something that Kael would eventually notice.
If it helps you sleep better, you should know that Kael’s power indirectly relies on extensions.
He will try to help you get stronger even if you slack a bit.
However, I’m guessing that there is so much he can do.
You’re not irreplaceable, you know that.
Don’t be lazy, Chloe. If not, even if Kael tolerates your weakness, I won’t."
With that, Alora walked out of the room with a few steps, taking away the cold atmosphere with her.
"Where are you going?" Chloe asked with a frown. She felt the need to monitor Alora’s every move so as to be prepared.
At the same time, Alora’s warning rang clear in her mind, she didn’t ignore it.
"I need to have a chat with Kael’s other consorts..."
