Adrienne only smiled. If Hunter knew that she used to be married to Alistair Han and how her husband had treated her back then, he might as well have taken Lennox as a saint. Though what her brother said was right. She hadn’t met a lot of men in both lifetimes for her to understand them well. However, she wasn’t oblivious to the fact that a person’s obsession could ruin lives.

Despite her avoiding going to Elysian and meeting Alistair there, Adrienne had still managed to pique his curiosity. The man hadn’t done anything towards her yet, but she could clearly feel his eyes set on her during the birthday banquet.

"Give my suggestion a good thought, brother. I can take care of myself, but we have to take some precautionary measures."

Hunter stared at her and said nothing. Adrienne thought it would be better if her brother would heed her suggestion. The only way to ensure Cayden wouldn’t be able to snatch the title of the successor from her was to make Hunter more outstanding than him.

Since Adrienne was too exhausted to continue their talk, Hunter bid her good night. Adrienne returned to her bed and finally succumbed into dreamless sleep this time.

The next morning, she and Hunter had a hearty breakfast with their grandparents. Both their elders weren’t willing to let them go yet, but Adrienne still needed to attend school that day. With the promise to visit them over the weekend, Adrienne returned home before going to school.

The preliminary exam continued and Adrienne was one of the few students who managed to complete it. She wasn’t worried about the results of her exams as she was prepared, with the help of Lennox. Once done, she met Hunter outside the school grounds and they drove towards Jinxiu Garden.

When she arrived at Jinxiu Garden, she was greeted by Noah, who immediately ran over to give her a hug. She picked the young boy up and held him close. She noticed the slight furrowing of his brows, making him resemble Lennox even more.

"Brother is sick, Sister Addie." He muttered in distress.

Adrienne was taken aback. It hadn’t been long since her last visit and she didn’t notice Lennox being sick back then. She gave Butler Chang a curious look and the old man could only sigh. Butler Chang had been serving Lennox since childhood and he had been attending to him since then. He was clear on what Lennox wanted and what his condition was.

"What’s going on?" Adrienne was of course worried about Lennox.

"Master Nox couldn’t sleep due the minor burns that have yet to heal. He’d been enduring it for sometime now." Butler Chang said. He was aware of the relationship Lennox had with this young lady.

"We’re waiting for his doctor to arrive. Though we’re applying the medicines and ointments in time, it wasn’t enough to relieve the pain." He added.

Adrienne frowned. It seemed that Lennox was very good at pretending he was fine these days. He must have thought that everyone would be worried about him. She decided to wait with them at the living area while she patiently taught Noah how to write his name properly.

Hunter also decided to return to the hospital to look after their mother while she was here in Jinxiu Garden. Adrienne knew he wasn’t ready to accept Lennox as his brother-in-law and would rather not be in the same place as him.

Lennox’s doctor came an hour later and he was taken aback seeing an unfamiliar lady at Jinxiu Garden. Just like Butler Chang, Doctor Lin was the private doctor who had been tending to Lennox for a long time. He eyed Butler Chang for explanation.

"Doctor Lin, this is Miss Adrienne Jiang. She’s a close friend of Lennox’s and is here to visit him." The butler said.

Adrienne gave the doctor a polite nod and introduced herself properly. Doctor Lin smiled at her, thinking that it was the first time he’d seen a woman being this close to Lennox. He had some idea of what their relationship could be but decided to keep it to himself.

"Master Nox hasn’t been able to sleep for five days now and he’s getting worse each day. Can’t you give him a higher dose of medicine to reduce his pain?" Butler Chang asked Doctor Lin.

The doctor shook his head. "The dosage that was prescribed to him was already the highest he could take. If I give him a higher dosage, it might cause more harm instead. His legs are also recovering well, but I can’t say the same about his lower spine."

"Then is there something else we can do to ease his pain?" Adrienne couldn’t help but ask. She couldn’t imagine how hard it had been for Lennox to endure the pain, losing so many sleepless nights in the process.

"I should check his burns first and see if there’s any infection that is causing him pain. If there’s none, I will have a talk with his other doctor to discuss what else could be done." Doctor Lin answered.

Butler Chang led the doctor to the master bedroom where Lennox was staying. Adrienne followed closely with Noah on her side, holding her hand. They waited outside the room as the doctor examined Lennox.

"Would Big Brother be alright? He isn’t going to leave us, right?" Noah asked. Adrienne noticed that the young boy was starting to grow some attachment towards Lennox. It was evident that the boy feared that Lennox was going to die like their father.

"The doctor is here now. I’m sure he will help your brother feel better." Adrienne tried to reassure the boy, but she was also worried about Lennox.

How come Gavin never told her anything about it? Adrienne surmised that Gavin didn’t think there was something she could do to help and chose not to bother her. She wasn’t offended by this at all, but it would have been better if someone would at least inform her of what was happening.
