Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 98: Brother and Sister (4)
"I’m sorry," Hunter eventually said. "Had I known you’d react like this, I would have told you sooner."
Adrienne shook her head. The one who should apologize to him was her. She tightly clenched her fists on her sides. Even though she experienced a lifetime of torment, she never thought she had lost more than she knew from her previous life. Before her was the man, the older brother she had that they lost even before her birth. As she thought about this, a rush of uncontrollable rage burst from the depth of her heart.
So it turned out that Camilla and her father had plucked them out one after another. They started with her mother, then she followed suit. Adrienne couldn’t imagine how Hunter had suffered in her past life, oblivious of the scheme being pulled against them. Her entire family was taken advantage of and disposed in the end. How could Adrienne remain calm after knowing this?
’The Jiang and the Ji family, I will make sure you’ll pay this debt with your blood!’
The humiliation her father and the Jiang family suffered wasn’t enough to pacify her anger. Since they harmed her family, Adrienne would take everything from them. She would trample them at any chance given, snatch every opportunity for them to rise. Now that Camilla had caused such a massive scandal, surely the elders wouldn’t give her the opportunity to rise from her status as a mistress to the respected Madam Jiang.
Because of the darkness within the room, Hunter couldn’t see the menacing and murderous intent in Adrienne’s eyes. He merely thought that she was upset with him, but that wasn’t the case at all. God knows, Adrienne was dying to kill them, but she had to take everything in consideration before making a move.
"So you knew that Camilla is the person behind our sufferings?" She asked, wanting to confirm how much Hunter knew of the situation. She was no longer the ignorant and impetus Adrienne of the past.
"Yes," Hunter affirmed. "I’ll make them pay for what they did to us, Addie. Now that I’m here, no one can lay a finger on you. If I had known that Cayden has been mistreating you for a long time, I would have broken every bone in his body, leaving him crippled for life."
Adrienne wiped the tears from her cheeks and chuckled amusely.
"Don’t do anything reckless, dear brother. You are currently at a disadvantage. It’s best to keep your identity a secret from everyone for the meantime. As for their future schemes, leave the rest to me."
Hunter frowned, displeased with her answer. How could he allow his sister to deal with those dangerous people? Not only did they manage to murder his adoptive mother, but they had also drugged Rosemary Zhao as well. There was no doubt that the rest of the Jiang family held ill intent towards Adrienne.
"You’re still young, Addie. As your older brother, I should be the one who should protect you and Mother. Wouldn’t it be the best for everyone to know that I’m your brother?" His heart was full of sorrow and anger at the same time.
Adrienne shook her head. There were different scenarios and outcomes that came to her mind when she thought about how Hunter ended up in her past life. Camilla was also aware of his identity, but for some reason, their father was oblivious to it. Perhaps Lewis Jiang never thought that the son he tried to get rid of was still alive and Camilla didn’t want him to be aware of it.
"You have to return to the military camp, brother." Adrienne said bitterly. They had just reunited as siblings, but she couldn’t allow Camilla and the Jiang family any chance to hurt Hunter anymore.
"But Addie!" Hunter exclaimed. He didn’t understand why Adrienne was trying to chase him away. Did she not believe he could protect her?
"Uncle Reese said that you’ll be able to return to service after serving your sentence. You have to become an outstanding military man like Uncle Reese. Once he returns, I’ll ask him to assist you to return to the service." Adrienne insisted. "Only by earning merits and achievement will you be able to protect me and Mom. The more outstanding you are, the more frustrated they will become. Now that everyone knows how Cayden failed to enter law school, every failure he would have would eventually be compared to your every success. Brother, don’t worry about me. I can protect myself. If I don’t have the ability, how could I chase them out of this household?"
For Adrienne, Hunter didn’t need to go into the murky waters just to deal with their enemies. It was enough that she was the one harboring a wicked heart between them. Hunter had led an honest life, so how could he understand the intricate plot she was planning against the Jiang family?
Hunter still didn’t agree with her suggestion. How could he carry out his responsibilities at the camp when he knew she was facing danger somewhere? He also couldn’t just leave the rest to their Uncle Reese to deal with. He stared at his sister’s face, trying to figure her out.
"Addie, is there something you aren’t telling me? I’m already here. You aren’t alone anymore. There’s no need for you to marry that man just to secure your future. Clearly, that man is taking advantage of you, Addie."
Adrienne sighed inwardly. Since Hunter met Lennox, he never had a good impression of the latter. She wasn’t surprised to hear Hunter voicing out his displeasure towards Lennox.
"Lennox isn’t as bad as you think he is. He might be unreasonable at times, but I think he’s a good person." She then allowed Hunter to help her back on her feet and lead her to the nearest armchair.
Hunter scoffed. "You haven’t met a lot of men, Addie. I still think that marrying someone like him isn’t necessary. You’ll be better with another man."
