Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 95: Brother and Sister (1)
Under the afternoon sunlight, Adrienne’s fair skin and beautiful face turned rather ghastly. She couldn’t understand why her grandmother mistook Hunter for her missing elder brother. Something must have happened for Old Madam Zhao to act this rashly. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
As if sensing her distress, Old Master Zhao stepped out and looked at her with a complicated expression on his face. His eyes were then drawn to Hunter who was still in his wife’s embrace. Adrienne gave him an inquisitive look, but the old man only sighed and gestured for her to follow him inside.
Adrienne had no choice but to enter the estate. It didn’t take long before her grandmother and Hunter followed them shortly. She was anxious, but she didn’t allow it to appear on her face. She was certain there was a logical explanation to all of it.
As they entered the study where she previously met the Zhao family, Adrienne asked, "Mister Zhao, what’s going on?"
"Mister Zhao?" The old man before his frown. "Shouldn’t you be calling me Grandpa by now?"
Adrienne glanced up at him. She wasn’t certain how deep this grandfather’s feelings were towards her mother. However, considering that he extended a hand to assist her in transferring Rosemary to another hospital, which was closer to where the Zhao family was, Adrienne assumed that the old man still cared for his daughter.
"Then Grandpa, please enlighten me about the current situation." She said impassively.
Old Master Zhao glanced at Hunter before pulling a folder from his drawer. Adrienne stepped forward when he handed it over to her.
"Your Uncle Reese used all our resources to locate your brother. I do not know if this was a streak of luck or if you’ve known this all along, but the brother your mother lost many years ago is the same young man who has been accompanying you these days."
Adrienne felt like she was struck by lightning. The memories of her first meeting with Hunter Nian replayed in her mind. The man who she intended to use against the Ji family was aware of who she was and yet she was oblivious of the reason. For a moment, it made sense to her why Camilla would display such uneasiness and fear whenever she saw Hunter.
Hunter was one of the few people whom Adrienne couldn’t figure out at all. However, if he really was Louis Jiang, how did he find out his identity before the Zhao family located him?
"I see... so it’s like this..." Saying so, she looked at her grandfather’s face, seeing the relief on his face. However, Adrienne didn’t know what to feel or how to react after finding out that Hunter was her missing brother. It must be because of the shock, but Adrienne felt numb at that moment.
"So this is a happy occasion, isn’t it?" Old Madame Zhao wept behind Adrienne. "I know everything now, Addie. You don’t have to spare this old woman anymore. Rose has suffered, but why didn’t she return home and ask for our help?"
Adrienne lowered her gaze. The answer was really simple. It was because her mother had realized that marrying Lewis Jiang was a grave mistake. She was afraid of implicating the Zhao family and had wanted to spare them from her husband’s greed and ambition.
"Dear, you’ve just recovered from your illness. Louis and Addie are now here. Is there a reason for you to shed more tears?" Old Master Zhao coaxed his wife.
Adrienne’s grandmother wiped her tears and regarded Hunter.
"I hope you aren’t holding a grudge against your mother. Your disappearance must have broken her beyond repair."
"It is I who made Mother worried. I intend to make up for the time we’ve lost." The young man replied with a slight smile. He glanced at Adrienne, but he couldn’t see her face from where he stood.
"This news might have come as a shock to you as well, Hunter." Old Master Zhao commented. "I don’t expect you to accept it easily. For us, the fact that Rose had lost you at birth and Addie had found you instead hasn’t quite sunk in for us either."
Hunter finally shed the cold mask he’d been keeping on for a long time. For the first time, he showed a genuine smile on his face while their grandfather’s eyes showed love and regret.
"I’ve been with Adrienne for sometime now and I’ve discovered many things as well as saw countless pieces of evidence with my own eyes. From what I heard, Mom still holds me in her heart and isn’t willing to accept my death. As for Adrienne, I will do my best to assist and protect her from now on."
It was only then did Adrienne turn around and face him. There wasn’t a hint of ill-feelings on Hunter’s face, instead, she could only see a sense of yearning. If he’d known she was his sister, why didn’t he come forward and let her know? Adrienne couldn’t understand.
"The Jiang family... I will make them pay for the humiliation and suffering they’ve caused you." Old Master Zhao clenched his fist.
"Grandpa is willing to help us now?" Adrienne raised a slender brow. Though she was still dressed in her school uniform, her bearing was that of an adult woman who demands undivided attention.
"You and Hunter are our Zhao family’s grandchildren, so how can I just stand by and watch as your father continues to bully you?"
"But Grandpa, do you think my father would sit idly? They would surely try to find a way to contest my brother’s identity. The mishap Hunter encountered recently, the Ji family has a hand on it. We aren’t just dealing with the Jiang family. There are many enemies lurking in the dark, waiting for the right time to strike."
"So arrogant," Old Master Zhao hissed. "I shouldn’t have let your mother marry into that family, but why would the Ji family help them?"
"I’m not sure as well," Adrienne admitted. "Camilla must have pulled some strings to make the Ji family cooperate with them. I realized just now that she is probably aware that Hunter is my real brother."
