Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 93: Louis Jiang (1)
It had taken Adrienne sometime before she could meet her mother’s lawyer to find out whether she was left with a trust fund. She hadn’t seen the man in a long time and wasn’t expecting anything from this meeting with him. Hunter accompanied her to the law firm, and the lawyer’s secretary welcomed them.
While waiting for the lawyer to arrive, Adrienne received a message from Gavin that they had already dealt with the parents who bullied Noah the other week. They were pressing charges against them for Noah’s trauma from being detained unjustly. For some reason, the two women Adrienne had beaten up didn’t sue her for assault but instead asked to settle the issue amicably.
Adrienne didn’t want to waste time with them anymore as she already vented her anger that day. She decided to let Lennox and Gavin deal with them instead.
Once the lawyer arrived, he was surprised to see Adrienne with Hunter. He eyed Hunter momentarily, trying to figure out where he’d seen the young man before but easily pushed the thoughts aside. He allowed the two to enter his office before him.
"Addie, I’m glad you dropped by to see this old man. You and your mother surely know how to keep me in business."
"Uncle Zhang must be joking. Isn’t it because you are trustworthy and capable that you can keep up with others?" Adrienne replied with a genuine smile.
Uncle Zhang was already over fifty years old and had been a good friend of her mother’s for a long time. If it wasn’t for his help, her father would have managed to trick her into handing over her rights and her inheritance from her mother to him. He was frequently on a business trip, and it was almost impossible to meet him unless he was in town. Thankfully, her request for a meeting was easily set this time.
"What brings you here today, Addie? Is your father threatening you again?" Uncle Zhang asked. "I heard the news about your brother and stepmother. I can’t believe your mother raised such a shameless person." He furrowed his brows in displeasure.
Although he had seen the passing of time, he still appeared youthful and approachable despite having an angular face and a stern look. He was one of the people Adrienne held in high regard, regardless of the life she was living in.
Adrienne took a seat across his desk while Hunter remained standing behind her.
"My mother didn’t give birth to him, so no matter how painstakingly she had raised him, his heart was already corrupted from the start." She said with a gentle smile, but her eyes were so cold. It was hard for her to hide her fury at the thought of her mother raising such a bastard.
"Anyway, that isn’t why I asked for a meeting, Uncle Zhang. If you aren’t already aware, I just recently turned eighteen. I want to know if my mother has ever set up a trust fund for me." Adrienne didn’t waste time and declared her intention.
Uncle Zhang remained silent and gave her a good look. He hadn’t seen this young lady in a long time, and he felt her attitude had changed drastically, and for the better. Her eyes didn’t show any hint of weakness as she met his curious gaze.
Uncle Zhang was somewhat absentminded when he gazed at Adrienne’s smiling face. He had met many people during his long years as a lawyer and he could easily tell that this young lady before him wasn’t easy to deal with. Adrienne had long shed her vulnerability and in its place was the confidence of a scheming woman in the making.
He knew that Adrienne would become a beauty once she got older, but seeing her face-to-face, he was astonished to see the changes in her. She was beautiful but didn’t seem overly frivolous. Instead, there was a certain sort of calmness in her beauty.
"Indeed, she did leave something for you, Addie." He nodded, then turned to the young man behind Adrienne. Uncle Zhang remembered hearing about a special force soldier who had bad blood with a popular prosecutor. He wondered how Hunter Nian ended up on Adrienne’s side.
"Not only you but also for your brother." He added.
Adrienne’s brows shot upon hearing that. "Even Cayden?"
Uncle Zhang shook his head and pressed the intercom on his table. He asked his secretary for the files related to Rosemary Zhao before answering Adrienne.
"Not Cayden, but Louis."
Hunter stiffened where he stood, but his face remained expressionless.
"You mean my older brother, Louis?" Adrienne didn’t expect her mother to set up a trust fund for her missing brother. Did Rosemary suspect that her eldest child, Louis, was taken away and wasn’t dead?
"Who else but him?" Uncle Zhang hummed as he tapped the desk with his fingertips out of habit. "Rose had set up the trust fund even before she gave birth to you and your brother. She wanted to ensure a steady start once you decide to live independently."
Adrienne smiled bitterly—a myriad of emotions well up in her heart. Despite being unfortunate to have a husband like Lewis Jiang, Rosemary poured her love and attention into her children instead. Even her missing older brother was left with something.
Behind her, Hunter lowered his gaze as if he was contemplating something. He wasn’t expecting to hear such a thing when he decided to accompany Adrienne here today.
"Uncle Zhang probably hasn’t heard, but Father and his second family have already moved out of the estate. However, to teach me a lesson, he purposely cut off the finances for the estate, leaving me to deal with the mess as a consequence." 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"He did that?" Uncle Zhang wasn’t impressed with Lewis Jiang since their first meeting. "Thankfully, your mother has left you ten percent of the Jiang Corporation shares and one billion in your trust fund. This should be more than enough to cover your household and educational expenses."
"One billion?!" Adrienne’s eyes widened in shock, wondering if she heard the lawyer right.
