Chapter 86: Noah Qin (2)

Adrienne remained silent and chose to look at the young boy sleeping on her lap. Noah had a slight smile on his face as if he was content with where he was. This was their first meeting, but the boy had already taken a liking to her.

Noah kept reminding her of Dylan. That young boy was raised by her, so how could Adrienne not miss him, especially at times like this?

"I understand what you mean, Miss Qiu, and this is precisely why Lennox and I considered offering you to stay with Noah." She answered Beatrice honestly. "Just because you and Noah aren’t blood related to each, doesn’t mean your concern for him is any less."

"Y-you’re allowing me to stay with Noah?" Beatrice had initially thought that they intended to take Noah away from her, considering Lennox would have his custody.

"Why not?" Adrienne raised a slender brow. "You’re the one who raised Noah after all and we can’t just take him away from you."

Beatrice’s shoulder fell as she cried in silence. "I thought we only have each other... I don’t think I could bear not being with Noah even for a day."

"We’re open to suggestions, Miss Qiu. As you know, Lennox and I don’t have any experience in raising a child, nor are we experts on the matter. Though money certainly wouldn’t be an issue, we acknowledge that there might be some aspects we wouldn’t be able to provide for the children."

When she and Lennox discussed it, it was only then Lennox realized that having the children under his wing wouldn’t be a walk in the park. They both acknowledged that since each child was unique, he might need to do some preparations on his end as well.

Lennox then proceeded to complain about raising children that weren’t his and cursed his father to the afterlife. If it wasn’t for Adrienne’s reassurance, he didn’t think he’d have the confidence to keep those children.

"Things have already turned out like this. Lennox is willing to lessen your burden of taking care of Noah. If you agree, Miss Qiu can then focus on her studies for the upcoming civil exam." Adrienne reminded Beatrice. Lennox was giving her a chance to take control over her life by claiming custody for Noah.

Beatrice knew this, but she wasn’t willing to be parted from Noah just yet. If what Adrienne was saying was true, then she didn’t need to be parted from Noah immediately. There were many rumors circulating around Lennox Qin and Adrienne Jiang, but seeing and meeting Adrienne personally had broadened Beatrice’s views. It seemed those rumors existed because the perpetrators were attempting to bring Adrienne down.

As for Lennox Qin, she wouldn’t know unless she met him personally.

When it was time to leave, Noah threw a fit, refusing to be separated from Adrienne. It was only after Adrienne promised to return did the young boy finally listen and let her go.

Beatrice and Hunter could only watch in awe, seeing how easily Adrienne had pacified the young child with only a few words. Her words were gentle and cordial, but there was an unquestionable imposing manner coming off of Adrienne.

"You listen to me, alright?" Adrienne gently coaxed Noah. "I need to discuss some things with your brother first. I’ll surely return one of these days." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"You promise?" Noah sniffed, his eyes reddened with tears.

"You have my word, Young Master Qin," Adrienne then made a pinky promise with him.

Hunter drove them back to Changshi City. He couldn’t help but give Adrienne a few curious glances along the way.

"If you have a question, you only need to ask." Adrienne looked at the scenery outside the window, watching as the rain started to fall.

"Why did Miss Qiu regard you as Noah Qin’s sister-in-law?" Hunter didn’t waste this chance and questioned her.

"Because I would be," Adrienne answered nonchalantly. "Lennox and I are engaged to be married."

Hunter was taken aback by her answer. His hands unconsciously tighten on the steering wheel.

"Is this really necessary?" He asked after a long silence between them. Adrienne wasn’t aware of the truth about his identity yet, but this didn’t mean Hunter would willingly turn a blind eye on her affairs.

"Just a precaution. Mr. Nian must have not known, but my worth to my father is as good as a bargaining chip for marriage. In due time, he would try to sell me to the the highest bidder."

A flash of contempt appeared in Hunter’s eyes. It was surprising how Adrienne could remain calm after all the things the Jiang family had done towards her. If it was him, Hunter didn’t think he’d be able to keep his composure once he found out that someone attempted on his mother’s life. He would surely make them pay with blood for their impertinence.

"I don’t understand why he’s so heartless and ruthless towards you, Miss Addie..."

"In his eyes, I’m nothing but a mistake he should get rid off. He might have regretted not being able to get rid of me like they did my brother. Do you think Aunt Camilla and Elise would have the guts to scheme against me if it wasn’t for my father? In this life, it was our misfortune to become father and daughter."

Naturally, Hunter understood Adrienne’s intention and an indescribable fire immediately ignited in his heart. He opened his mouth to confess his identity towards his younger sister, but he decided to keep his silence for the meantime. He’ll allow Reese Zhao to find him first, because no one else could prove his identity but him.

"Then what’s the purpose of helping Lennox Qin retrieve his siblings?" He continued to probe.

Adrienne sighed. As her personal bodyguard, Hunter was destined to find out one way or another anyway.

"Lennox hired me to retrieve them and get their custody for him in order to receive his inheritance from his father. Aside from that, it would keep the children safe from his greedy relatives."
