Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 85: Noah Qin (1)
Adrienne was aware of everyone’s concern toward her. She wasn’t foolish to think that her Aunt Camilla would blindly follow their elders. That woman would surely come up with something new soon. As her father’s second family left the estate, she decided to find Lennox’s other sibling. It led her and Hunter to Jinling City.
They found themselves standing outside a daycare in the outskirts of the city one cold afternoon. They came as soon as Adrienne’s classes had ended.
"What are we doing here, Miss Addie?" Hunter couldn’t help but ask.
The days seemed to have passed by too fast these days and with the weather turning cold, most students were starting to prepare for the academy examinations. Yet, Adrienne had suddenly decided to go to the capital city and had no notion of doing what other students were doing. Even Valerie Xia reminded her not to be too complacent this time.
"I’m looking for someone." Adrienne merely responded to Hunter, not giving any more explanation.
As the young children left the daycare center with their parents, a lone child caught Adrienne’s attention. The boy looked timid and quiet as he held his teacher’s hand. He looked like a glutinous rice dumpling in Adrienne’s eyes. He was soft and round, making him look irresistible. The boy’s name was Noah Qin, and he’s the youngest of Lennox’s half-siblings.
When the young boy lifted his gaze and met Adrienne’s smiling face, he was momentarily stunned. Suddenly, he broke free from his teacher’s hold and ran towards Adrienne screaming, "Mommy! Mommy!"
He wrapped his small arms around her leg to get her attention. People started looking their way and giving them curious looks.
Much to Hunter’s surprise, Adrienne leaned down and picked up the child. He never thought that Adrienne would be good with children.
"Mommy? You’re mistaken, Little One. I’m eighteen, and it’s impossible for me to give birth to a boy your age. Even if I did, your father would surely spend the rest of his days behind bars for taking advantage of a young girl like me."
"But..." Noah pouted and refused to let go of Adrienne. "You’re my Mommy..."
Noah’s homeroom teacher came at that moment and apologized to Adrienne. She tried to convince Noah to let go of Adrienne, but he only buried his face on Adrienne’s shoulder, refusing to be taken away.
"It’s alright, teacher. In fact, I’m looking for Noah Qin’s guardian."
Noah Qin? Hunter glanced at the boy in Adrienne’s arms. Was the boy related to that person? He wondered.
The homeroom teacher was kind enough to let Adrienne and Hunter wait inside the classroom while they waited for Noah’s guardian. As they waited, Adrienne played with the child and taught Noah how to read storybooks. The sun had already set when a woman came rushing in looking for Noah. She looked like any ordinary salary woman Adrienne had seen before.
"Miss Qiu, I’m Adrienne Jiang. I left you a message this morning." She introduced herself to Noah’s guardian.
Beatrice Qiu gave Adrienne a good look before giving her a firm handshake.
"I didn’t know Noah’s sister-in-law would be this young." She told Adrienne. She then noticed how clingy Noah was towards Adrienne. Beatrice tried to take Noah, but his small fist clung desperately to Adrienne’s arm.
"No! She’s my Mommy! She’s my mommy!" He cried out, tears spilling down his chubby cheeks.
"I’m sorry about this. Noah is usually a recluse and would rather be on his own. I’m not sure why he’s acting like this today." Beatrice could only apologize to Adrienne while Hunter eyed his miss suspiciously upon hearing Adrienne’s relationship with this young child.
Since it was already late, Adrienne offered them a ride. She also wanted to see Noah Qin’s living arrangement with Beatrice Qiu. The two weren’t blood-related, yet Beatrice Qiu had taken it upon herself to take care of Noah.
She and Hunter looked around the small apartment where Beatrice and Noah lived. Despite being small, the place was clean and tidy. Noah’s toys were kept in small boxes, while several stacks of books were neatly placed in a corner.
Adrienne sat on a small couch, allowing Noah to crawl and settle on her lap. Beatrice returned from the kitchen with a tray of tea and some snacks for their guests. She slightly flushed upon seeing Noah taking a nap on Adrienne’s lap.
"Is there a reason Noah mistook Miss Addie as his mother?" Hunter asked curiously. He had always been sensitive to his intuition, thus he was able to see things clearly even if Adrienne didn’t say a word.
"I’m not sure either..." Beatrice confessed. "Noah knew what his mother looked like when she was still alive. He must have been jealous of his classmates, seeing he’s the only one who didn’t have a parent to pick him up from the daycare center." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
She then glanced at Adrienne. Although this girl was younger than she expected, Beatrice could sense that Adrienne Jiang wasn’t to be underestimated. She had a noble bearing one couldn’t easily ignore.
"You know by now that I cannot keep Noah from you. After all, we aren’t related to each other. Although you claim that his brother will be taking over Noah’s custody, I’m not sure whether he would treat Noah right. I’m not sure if Miss Jiang is aware, but Noah..." Beatrice hesitated. "His doctor said that he’s got an impression that Noah is on the spectrum and might need special care..."
"I’m aware, Miss Qiu," Adrienne answered as she gently played with Noah’s hair. "We’re also aware that this is placing a huge financial burden on you. Since their father has passed away, Lennox intends to take his siblings under his care."
"But I heard he’s also recovering from the injuries he sustained from the accident," Beatrice fidgetted on her seat. "Money isn’t enough, Miss Jiang. I know it’s not my place to question Mr. Qin on how he intends to raise his siblings, but with Noah, you can’t simply leave him to a nanny."
