Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 65: I Don’t Like You (1)
But how did the rumor spark? Who would daringly slander Adrienne Jiang like this? Hunter didn’t think a young woman like her wouldn’t get affected when others labeled her as a promiscuous woman. However, seeing Adrienne’s disposition, she didn’t seem bothered by any of it.
The next day, Hunter accompanied Adrienne to the muay thai gym she frequently visited. When he found out the other reason why she’d been going to that place, he couldn’t help but wear an annoyed expression.
"Isn’t that man a notorious loan shark? Why would you want to employ him as a bodyguard?" He asked. Hunter thought he was enough to protect Adrienne. Even if she needed more, why did it have to be a notorious loan shark?
Adrienne smiled faintly at him as her knees hit the punching bag before her, making it rattle from the strength she exerted. She made a few more jabs and felt that her stamina was improving..
"I have my reasons. You only need to watch over me. I’ll deal with him."
As they were speaking, Adrienne’s coach called her and her eyes lit up, seeing the man she’d been trying to find for days. Hunter didn’t want to leave her alone with those two men, so he followed them inside a small office that reeked of menthol oil.
The loan shark took a seat on the computer chair and rested his legs on the corner of the table. He eyed Adrienne for a moment, then glanced at Hunter, whose expression had turned cold. Despite him being in his mid-forties, the man looked fit and strong. It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise as he was the very definition of a notorious loan shark known in Changshi City.
"So I heard you’ve been asking for me. What is it that you want, Miss Jiang?" He put a cigarette stick in his mouth and lit it up with a lighter. "What could a young girl like you need from this old man?"
"I want to employ you, Uncle Shark." This man was known by this name because of his reputation of being persistent when collecting the debts from those who owed him.
Uncle Shark burst into a round of laughter and pointed a finger at Adrienne. Adrienne was clad in her gym clothes, a sheen of sweat covering her entire body. Even so, it wasn’t enough to dull her beauty.
"But Miss Jiang, if you know who I am, why would you want to employ someone like me?"
"I need someone who’s capable of collecting the information I need. You’ll be responsible for collecting the debts owed to me."
Uncle Shark gave her a freezing look. "I don’t trust you."
Adrienne’s lips curled up. "You don’t have to trust me. I’ll let the money speak for me."
Uncle Shark hummed. He then tapped his cigarette on an ashtray. "How much money are we talking about?"
"About 50 thousand a month, plus twenty-five percent hazard pay." Adrienne made a gesture of numbers with her hand. She knew that this offer had successfully piqued Uncle Shark’s interest. A man like him trusted no one but money.
In her previous life, Myrtle owed a massive debt to this man because of her. When the Jiang family abandoned her, Myrtle tried her best to help her to this extent. After Myrtle’s passing, the debt was transferred to her name. Uncle Shark did his best to collect the money, but he was also unexpectedly patient with her. Eventually, he accepted Adrienne’s offer for him to become Dylan’s bodyguard.
She could see then that this crude man had a special spot for young children like Dylan. While no one was nice to Uncle Shark, Dylan would occasionally seek his company. Dylan would share his snacks with him and would play with him.
On so many occasions, Uncle Shark had never failed to save their lives. Adrienne could never repay this gratitude as Uncle Shark passed away after dealing with a gang fight Camilla had set up for them. Dylan never found out about his Uncle Shark’s passing and Adrienne didn’t have the heart to deliver this devastating news to the child. Dylan only knew that his favorite bodyguard took a long vacation.
For this reason, Adrienne wanted to keep him by her side. Dylan might not be here to see his Uncle Shark, but she decided to preserve his life this time. The only reason Uncle Shark lost that time was because he was outnumbered by his opponents. He would be able to defeat ten men in a fist fight, but there was no way he could win when he’s against over thirty others.
With Hunter Nian, even if Camilla tried to pull off another scheme, Uncle Shark would surely survive. He wouldn’t lose his life defending her and his ability to get his hands dirty was too enticing for Adrienne not to take advantage of.
"Make it sixty and we have a deal."
Adrienne rejoiced inwardly. She then turned to Hunter and spread her hand.
"The invitation please." She said. The sinister smile that appeared on her face was enough to put Hunter in a daze for a moment.
Hunter could only pull out the invitation for Adrienne’s grandfather’s birthday banquet. He initially wondered why she needed to bring one with her. He supposed Adrienne had already planned this a long time ago.
"Here’s a welcome gift. I know you’ve been trying to find Cayden Jiang for his debt. I never thought he owed that much to you. As for the contract, I would need to prepare one. I’ll come to you once it’s ready."
Uncle Shark checked the invitation and chuckled. "You are willing to outrightly sell out your brother? My, my, some kind of sister you are, Miss Jiang."
Adrienne only shrugged as if it didn’t concern her if misfortune befell her brother.
"What can I say? I’m a person who believes one should repay one’s debt at any cost. Whether it is money or blood."
The two men before her could feel the chilling, malicious aura emanating from her. She was still young, but her heart was already this corrupted.
