Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 51: The Jiang Family (3)
Since Reese Zhao came unannounced, it was impossible for Sierra not to agree to return the brooch to Adrienne. She initially thought that as long as her father was around, and if she begged their grandfather, Adrienne wouldn’t be able to retrieve the brooch. Oh, how she hated Adrienne more than ever at this moment. Even when they were younger, Sierra had always hated Adrienne. She was lofty in nature and would never accept defeat, especially against Adrienne.
She didn’t know that Adrienne was aware of her and Ayla’s hatred towards her. Naturally, it was because her cousins also loved Alistair Han. However, Adrienne was vocal about her infatuation with him among the three of them. It also didn’t help that her status as the eldest miss of the Jiang family gave her an advantage against them.
So how could they not hate her? In their minds, Adrienne was foolish to think she could fight them for Alistair Han’s attention. Now that Adrienne thought about it, she was indeed foolish. She might have won and ended up marrying Alistair Han, but they would never know the suffering she experienced throughout their marriage.
Adrienne met Sierra’s eyes, and Sierra couldn’t help but shiver. As she met her cousin’s eyes, Sierra felt like she could not see the bottom of her eyes but could sense the energy behind them, as if there was a beast that had been sleeping, patiently hiding its sharp claws and teeth.
"Our Sierra will return Rosemary’s brooch. This is merely a misunderstanding between Sierra and her uncle." Old Master Jiang answered Reese Zhao. "It’s not her intention to offend Addie or your Zhao family."
If the Zhao family decided to withdraw their investment from the Jiang Corporation, it would surely leave a massive dent in their finances. This was why he was determined to pacify Reese Zhao today.
Since things had already been said and done, Sierra could only listen to her grandfather. However, she swore that someday, she would make Adrienne pay for the humiliation she suffered today.
"I-I will ask someone to bring the brooch here..." She said begrudgingly, not wanting to earn the ire of her elders. Sierra didn’t know that things would turn out like this. How did this stupid girl suddenly change overnight? This wasn’t the Adrienne she knew at all.
"Then I’ll expect to hear Addie receiving it soon, or else, don’t blame me for being impolite by returning the humiliation and disrespect you’ve shown my sister!"
Reese didn’t bother to give them face. After knowing and witnessing how the Jiang family treated his one and only niece, he despised Lewis Jiang with all his heart. It was hard for him to rein in his anger, wanting to beat up his brother-in-law, but he couldn’t, especially when Adrienne was with them.
Reese said sternly, turning to regard his niece. "Addie, are you sure you still want to live here? It must be very uncomfortable for you. Why don’t you return home with me? Your grandma would be thrilled to have you at home."
Adrienne smiled but shook her head. How could she leave her home to these vultures? If she leaves now, she might lose her chance to further hurt them. How could she let this rare chance slip from her hands? She couldn’t wait and see how they would struggle under her watch.
"It’s alright, Uncle Reese. It doesn’t make sense for the owner to be kicked out of her home." She said this, implying that she could kick out the rest of the Jiang family anytime she wished to. "I’m sorry you had to witness such an embarrassing scene today."
Since the birthday banquet for the Jiang patriarch was to be held in her home, they wouldn’t dare offend her any further than this. Now that they knew Reese Zhao had her back, her father and the rest of their family would be in a constant state of unease.
Reese could see that she had already made up her mind. He had no doubt she still had a few things planned in her mind, so she wasn’t willing to part with the Jiang family just yet.
"Fine. If anything happens, you know how to reach me."
He was saying this, but he already knew Adrienne had ways to deal with them. Reese regretted not being able to return sooner. He could have stopped his niece from turning into a person who was thirsty for vengeance. He wondered why his sister never sought his help when she was facing problems with the Jiang family. If things were already this bad, there’s no doubt that their circumstances had forced Adrienne to become the person she was now.
This time, Adrienne was to send her uncle off. She could feel the Jiang family’s gaze as they walked out. How laughable. Adrienne thought. She was disadvantaged in her previous life, but now, she realized she was just too stupid.
"Addie, do you really have to do this?" Reese asked once they were out of everyone’s earshot.
"What does Uncle mean by this question?" Adrienne smiled happily as if she wasn’t scheming against her family.
"This revenge. Are you sure you want to do this?"
The smile on her face didn’t wane. "If uncle is in my shoes, I wonder what you would do instead."
Reese didn’t know how to answer it. Perhaps he couldn’t truly understand his niece because he wasn’t the one who suffered. However, could he truly turn a blind eye to her actions?
"Seek revenge, but please don’t die. Your mother would be heartbroken if she saw you like this." Reese knew he couldn’t persuade his niece to stop at this rate. Since she’d already made up her mind, he could only work to remove as many obstacles for her as possible.
"Does this mean Uncle is willing to lend me a hand?" She smiled with anticipation.
Adrienne was smiling, but her obsidian eyes reflected unhinged violence waiting to be unleashed. Reese could see now the true nature of his niece. His heart felt quivered, an indescribable fear he never felt before.
