Chapter 44: Even a Vicious Tiger Won’t Eat Its Cubs (2)

It wasn’t a far-fetched idea that Lewis Jiang intended to leave Rosemary Zhao once she served her purpose. He and Camilla had already seen her birth as a mistake and hadn’t hesitated to kill her.. What more her older brother?

Lewis Jiang was really shameless and ruthless! Even a vicious tiger won’t eat its cubs! How could he do this to his own flesh and blood?!

"Sister Wang said that Madam’s pregnancy was sensitive, but the child in her womb was healthy and strong. I should have believed her when she insisted the child couldn’t possibly die. So it was like this..."

The three of them heard Uncle Mo’s solemn statement, giving the room an inexplicable chill.

"Brother Mo, is what you’re saying the truth?" Old Master Zhao asked.

Uncle Mo nodded. "Madam was incredibly happy when she finally got pregnant. Not only did it improve her mood, her in-laws also treated her better. However, Sister Wang and I noticed that instead of celebrating, Master Jiang looked distressed over the news of Madam’s pregnancy. However, for some inexplicable reason, the doctor who assisted Madam’s childbirth said that she delivered a stillbirth baby. A week later, Master Jiang returned with a newborn baby, but we would have never known that Cayden Jiang is his child with Camilla Yan."

It all made sense to Adrienne now. Her father loved Camilla and that pair of siblings she gave birth to dearly. Without her elder brother, Cayden could obviously inherit all of the Jiang family’s fortune. If her older brother lived, Cayden’s position would be precarious within the family, and he could only be seen as a bastard by everyone. Their father would have a hard time introducing him to society or acknowledging him as his successor. Cayden would forever live in Adrienne’s brother’s shadow for the rest of his life.

It changed because Lewis Jiang convinced his foolish wife to take Cayden as their son. He and Camilla might have seen her brother as a thorn in their eyes and wanted to get rid of him.

Adrienne shut her eyes and sat down. Her hatred towards her father rose to another level. They were also his children, but why were they treated less than his bastard children?

"How dare he... Even if he doesn’t like Rose, he shouldn’t have allowed harm to fall on you and your brother." Old Master Zhao’s eyes were brimming with tears as he listened to the conversation between his son and granddaughter.

However, for Adrienne, she already knew how selfish her father could be. He was willing to allow his mistress and other children to scheme against her and her mother in her previous life. No matter how many times it sheds its skin, a snake is still a snake.

None of them spoke as they were engrossed in their thoughts. It was Reese who broke the silence and regarded his niece. When all was said and done, how could they still turn a blind eye and forsake Adrienne? In the end, she was still a descendant, a granddaughter of their Zhao family.

"Addie, I would like to get to the bottom of this. I will make them pay if that cheating couple was indeed behind your brother’s death. If it’s alright with you, I would like to run a DNA test and an autopsy on your brother’s remains. It might give us answers if there was foul play in motion when your mother gave birth to him." Reese suggested.

If the child was switched at birth and Rosemary’s son survived, there might still be a chance they could find him. However, if his sister truly gave birth to a stillbirth baby, they could only pray for his soul.

Adrienne nodded. She would like to have some answers as well. If her father had truly done something inhumane to her brother, it would only add to the long list of his sins against her mother. It would only strengthen her resolve to make them pay with blood.

She initially thought that the Zhao family would deny her again, thus she didn’t expect this sudden turn of events. Now that her Uncle Reese was willing to lend a hand in her quest for revenge, how could she let this chance slip?

"Then I will leave things like this for Uncle to handle." Adrienne smiled faintly. She thought she’d seen the worst of her father’s capability, but knowing that he might have had a hand in her older brother’s death made Adrienne see red.

He was so cruel, but in the end, he could only blame himself for allowing her mother to give birth to a daughter like her. Adrienne didn’t care if she was deemed born under the star of calamity because she would make sure that the one who would lose everything this time would be her treacherous father.

"Then as you requested, I will transfer the deed of that estate under your name." Old Master Zhao added. "Go and chase them away from your home if you must. You are a child of the Zhao family, we’ll protect you with everything we have."

If things were already this bad, he and Reese couldn’t imagine how much suffering Adrienne would need to endure in the hands of her father and stepmother without their intervention.

He looked at his granddaughter, thinking that the young lady before them was different from the rest. Despite her elegant appearance, it seemed like she was forced to break free of the innocence she once had as a child. The things she had experienced and seen had surely caused her heart to harden and become unyielding. If Lewis Jiang and his mistress didn’t repeatedly mistreat her, would his granddaughter turn out to this shrewd?

"Then Mister Zhao, please accept my deepest gratitude."

The corner of her lips lifted up slightly, but her eyes remained cold and distant. She’d gained a powerful ally in the form of her uncle, but in the end, the vengeance would be hers alone.
