Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 394: Enjoy Your Stay in Hell (1)
Lennox’s entire body trembled upon hearing Harvey’s words. He felt everything was crashing down on him, the weight of the world bearing on his shoulders. The room seemed to spin around him as he struggled to process the news.
No, how could this be? The man he thought was his father wasn’t his biological father after all. Lennox’s mind raced with confusion, anger, and disbelief. His eyes immediately saw the revelation-tainted memories of their time together. He couldn’t help but question everything he thought he knew about his identity and family history.
Harvey Qin was his real father? Lennox couldn’t comprehend how his entire life had been built on a lie. The betrayal was overwhelming, and he couldn’t help but wonder why his mother had kept this secret from him for so long.
"I don’t blame your mother for keeping this a secret from you and everyone because if the truth were revealed, not only her life would be ruined but also yours. Why do you think Richard beat me, leaving me crippled for the rest of my life? It’s entirely my fault. I know she was my brother’s fiancee, but I deluded myself into believing Abi and I could find a way to be together." Harvey continued, his voice filled with regret and self-blame.
"I should have known better than to pursue a relationship that could only bring pain and destruction to everyone involved. Your mother, she made a difficult choice to protect you, even if it meant sacrificing her own happiness."
Harvey’s eyes shone with tears as he looked at his son, searching for understanding.
"I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive both of us, especially your mother. If you need someone to blame, then let it be me. I was the one who allowed my desires to cloud my judgment and put our family in this situation. Your mother only did what she thought was best for you then."
"Did she know she was pregnant with me when she married my father?" Lennox asked after a long silence.
"No, I don’t think she knew, but Richard must have known you aren’t his child and resent your mother for it."
Lennox stood up and paced back and forth, trying to process the weight of this new information. This wasn’t what he had expected when he had agreed to meet this person. He looked at his wife, wondering if Adrienne was aware of all of these, but Lennox could see the shock and worry in her face as his eyes met hers.
Adrienne had no idea of Harvey’s real intention of meeting them. She must have thought that hearing Harvey’s side would help him understand the situation better.
"Then why didn’t you do anything if I knew I was your son?" Lennox questioned the man before him. Why didn’t you take action if you were aware that I was your son and that my mother was suffering abuse from her husband?
Adrienne was the love of his life. Lennox was certain he would fight tooth and nail to protect her if someone tried to take her away from him. The thought of someone hurting Adrienne filled him with a fierce determination to keep her safe. He couldn’t fathom why Harvey, who claimed to be his father, had been so passive in the face of such ill-treatment toward his mother.
Harvey met his gaze head-on, and as if he knew what Lennox was thinking, he looked at Adrienne.
"Miss Jiang, I’ve heard things about you, but if I may be bold enough to say that your reputation precedes you, it seems that Lennox’s concern for your safety is not unfounded. However, rest assured that I have no intention of causing harm to anyone, especially not someone as important to my son as you are."
Harvey’s words carried a hint of sincerity, but Lennox couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was more to his father’s intentions than met the eye.
Harvey shrugged and leaned back in his chair, trying to convey his thoughts in a casual manner.
"As for your question, you and I aren’t on the same footing. You could give Adrienne the world if she wished, but I cannot do the same for your mother. I mean, what kind of life can I really give you and Abigail if I were to take you away?"
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair, pondering his predicament.
"I make a living by selling my paintings and art. It’s a tough gig, you know? Just as my father once said, it’s not enough to bring food to the table, much less give you and Abigail a comfortable life."
He looked up, meeting her eyes with concern and honesty.
"Do you really think my father would allow me to put our entire family in shame? Your mother’s reputation will be at stake, and so will your future. I mean, my brother Richard... he was a vindictive man who would stop at nothing to ruin my life." Harvey paused, letting his words sink in.
"I was powerless to do anything before, but that’s not the case now, Lennox. My brother trampled on you and took advantage of you, but I wouldn’t let that happen again. He abused you because of me, to spite me, and I’m sorry for not protecting you sooner. I promise you, Lennox, I will do whatever it takes to make things right and ensure my brother never harms you again. You deserve happiness and security, and I will fight for that with every ounce of strength."
Lennox said nothing and looked at Harvey’s face. This man, who claimed to be his real father, was never present when his brother mistreated him. The pain and betrayal were etched in Lennox’s eyes as he struggled to process Harvey’s words. He wondered if he could ever truly trust this man who had suddenly reappeared, promising to protect him now.
"Don’t you think it’s too late for that now?" He frowned. "I’m sorry, but I don’t think I need you. There’s nothing you can do that will make up for all the years of pain and suffering I endured without you."
The wounds ran deep, and Lennox wasn’t sure if forgiveness was even possible at this point.
"Let’s go, Addie. I think we’re done here." He said this, turning his back to Harvey Qin.
Adrienne looked at her husband, then at Harvey Qin, who gave her a slight nod. She could see the remorse and longing in his eyes, but she was also aware of how painful this meeting was for her husband. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
She stood up and gave Harvey a polite bow before following her husband outside. If she had known things would turn out like this, she wouldn’t have brought Lennox to meet Harvey.
