Chapter 393: Meeting Harvey Qin (2)

Lennox sat next to his wife in the backseat of the car as they drove out of town, spending three hours on the road. He finally agreed to meet the person Adrienne had mentioned he should meet, and they were on their way to meet them. That person may shed light on his father’s difficulties before his passing.

Lennox was skeptical about this meeting, unsure of what to expect. He couldn’t help but wonder why Adrienne insisted on meeting this person. However, he trusted his wife’s judgment and kept an open mind as they approached their destination.

Adrienne glanced at her husband and held his hand. Ever since he returned from meeting with his grandparents, she noticed the sudden change in his face. His usually bright eyes now hinted at sadness, and his smile seemed forced.

Worried, Adrienne gently asked, "Is everything alright, Len?"

Lennox turned his head and forced a smile before kissing her temple.

"Everything is alright, love. As long as I’m with you." He murmured.

She was the only reason he managed to stay sane despite the turbulence in his emotions. He knew he could confide in her, but a part of him hesitated to burden her with his family’s troubles.

Adrienne nodded but couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was bothering Lennox. She gave him some space, hoping he would open up when he was ready.

As they approached the house, Lennox’s heartbeat started to quicken. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease in the pit of his stomach. They pulled up to the driveway, and as soon as the car stopped, Adrienne turned to Lennox.

"Are you ready?" she asked softly.

Lennox took a deep breath and nodded. He opened the car door and stepped out onto the gravel driveway. The house in front of him was old and had a lot of character, with vines on the sides and a large, inviting porch.

As they walked toward the front door, Lennox couldn’t help but feel like he had been here before, even though he knew he hadn’t. There was something familiar about the house, but he couldn’t quite place it.

A tall, middle-aged woman with curly hair and a warm smile greeted them.

"You must be Lennox and Adrienne," she said, extending her hand. "I’m Marnie, the caretaker of this house. Please come in."

They followed Marnie into the living room, where a man was sitting on the couch, his back to them.

"Lennox, Adrienne, this is my owner of this house, Harvey Qin," Marnie said.

Harvey stood up with the help of a cane and turned around to face them. This was his long-lost uncle. His mother’s greatest love

Lennox’s heart dropped as he laid his eyes on Harvey. The man before him was the spitting image of his late father: the same chiseled jawline, the same broad shoulders, and even the same piercing eyes.

"Hello, Lennox," Harvey said, his voice startlingly similar to his father’s. "It’s good to finally meet you."

Lennox felt his throat go dry as he tried to form coherent words. He hadn’t expected to meet someone who looked so much like his father, and it was overwhelming.

"I’m sorry," Lennox stammered. "I didn’t realize...you look just like my father."

No, it was more like he could see himself in this older man.

Harvey nodded, understanding in his eyes, but there was something else in his smile. "I get that a lot."

Adrienne squeezed Lennox’s hand gently, giving him the support he needed.

"Should we sit down?" she asked, gesturing to the couch.

Harvey nodded, and they all took a seat.

"I’m sure you’re wondering why I asked to meet with you," Harvey said, his eyes meeting Lennox’s. "I also heard you found out what Carlos did. He didn’t mean to hurt you, Lennox. If he’d known what would happen, he would’ve never conspired with my mother and eldest brother."

"You are still alive, yet you chose to seclude yourself here. Why did you seek me, then? Carlos told me you didn’t have any involvement in my father’s death, but I’m skeptical enough to believe that. My father..." Lennox struggled to find the right words but continued, "My father wronged you and my mother. You have many reasons to seek revenge on him."

"But I didn’t." Harvey gave him a pointed look.

"And why is that?" Lennox demanded.

Harvey’s expression softened.

"Because, despite everything, he was still my brother. And in the end, family is all we have. I may have chosen to live a life of solitude, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have regrets. I also knew that if I returned, I would ruin things for you and Abigail. I know I was a coward for not fighting for your mother, and I know I should’ve. Perhaps Richard wouldn’t have mistreated you if I stood up and stood up for you and your mother."

Lennox met Harvey’s gaze head-on. He suddenly felt it was hard to breathe. He studied Harvey’s face, searching for any hint of deception. But all he saw was honesty and regret.

"What do you mean by this?" He asked, knowing that Harvey’s answer could change everything he knew about himself and his family.

Harvey lowered his eyes, his expression filled with shame and guilt.

"I see. So Richard and Abi never told you the truth." He rested his forehead in one hand and sighed, "I understand why they kept it from you, but have you ever wondered why Carlos stayed with you despite everything that happened?"

Lennox frowned and said, "He said because my mother begged him to stay with me after my father refused to give her my custody."

Harvey shook his head.

"No, Lennox. That isn’t the case. The reason why Richard mistreated you and your mother is because of me. He wanted to spite me by marrying Abigail and taking away everything that I held dear. He knew how much I cared for your mother, and he wanted to hurt me by hurting her and you."

Lennox’s eyes widened in shock as Harvey continued, "Carlos stayed with you because I told him you were my boy. The child Abigail gave birth to is mine. "

Lennox’s shock turned into confusion as he processed Harvey’s revelation.

"Wait, you’re saying I’m not Richard Qin’s biological child?" He asked, his voice filled with disbelief.

Harvey nodded solemnly, his gaze fixed on Lennox. "Yes, Lennox. I’ve known the truth all along. You are my son, and I will not allow the Qin family to harm you the second time."
