Chapter 392: Meeting Harvey Qin (1)

The old woman looked guilty, and she looked away, refusing to meet Lennox’s accusing gaze. Her silence alone was enough for Lennox to know that he was right. His eldest uncle was also involved in the fiasco.

"Henry told me I should stall your father’s plans, but I never thought it would come to this," the old woman finally confessed, her voice trembling with regret.

Lennox’s heart sank as he realized the extent of his family’s betrayal. There were other ways to stall or stop his father, but did it have to be a premeditated car accident?

His grandmother’s eyes flickered with a mix of pain and regret. She was so ashamed of what she’d done, and now that Lennox knew the truth, she knew he would never forgive her.

"It wasn’t easy, Nox," she repeated. "Your father, he was so...stubborn. He refused to listen to anyone’s advice, not even mine." Her voice wavered slightly as she continued. "The project he was working on was too risky. I begged him to reconsider, to think about the consequences of his actions. But he wouldn’t listen. He was so focused on success, on proving himself to the world. Your Uncle Henry told me that if your father failed, the company would be in a disastrous situation."

"But that still doesn’t explain why you would go to such lengths," Lennox said, his temper flaring.

His grandmother looked down at her hands, her fingers nervously clasping and unclasping around the teacup.

"Your father... he was so determined to succeed, willing to do whatever it took. And I couldn’t let him do that. Your uncle Henry should have succeeded the company, not your father."

Lennox leaned forward, his eyes intense. "So you decided to sabotage his project? You decided to put his life at risk?"

His grandmother shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "I didn’t mean for it to happen like that. I just didn’t know what else to do. I thought that if I could just slow him down and make him see reason, then maybe he would listen. Maybe he would come to his senses."

Lennox’s fists clenched as he took in her words. "And what about me? Did you think about what would happen to me if something happened to me and my father?"

"I didn’t mean for you to be hurt, Nox. I just thought that it would be a wake-up call for your father. I never imagined that it would turn out this way."

Lennox gritted his teeth, trying to contain his emotions. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. His grandmother had betrayed his father and put his life at risk, all to protect his uncle’s interests.

"Unbelievable," he muttered in disgust. "But at least you got what you wanted, right? Uncle Henry became the vice chairman, and Jacob became the CEO."

"No, Nox... I didn’t mean for it to turn out like this... You have no idea how much I regret my actions," his grandmother pleaded, tears streaming down her face. Lennox’s anger began to subside as he saw the genuine remorse in her eyes. "I just wanted to protect your father from making a mistake, but I never anticipated the consequences would be this severe. I’m so sorry, Nox."

Lennox wanted nothing to do with his grandmother anymore. He felt a deep sense of anger and betrayal toward her. It was clear to him now that family loyalty meant nothing to her, and he couldn’t help but question if she had ever truly cared about their well-being.

He stood up from his seat, intending to leave. Hearing her confession made Lennox feel numb. If this was the kind of family he was dealing with, the Qin family was worse than his wife’s family. No wonder Adrienne kept her distance from them. If he and Adrienne had children in the future, he would ensure there wouldn’t be any need for competition between them. The vicious cycle of abuse and betrayal should end with him and Adrienne.

"You favored one child over another. You chose to protect your eldest son at the expense of your other son’s safety," he accused, his voice filled with resentment. "I suppose Grandpa is unaware of this. How could you sleep peacefully at night knowing you’ve caused the death of my father and my injuries? My father’s blood is in your hands."

The realization of his grandmother’s betrayal weighed heavily on him, leaving him with a profound sense of disappointment and shattered trust in their familial bond. He was done with her and his family’s lies and deceit.

Lennox thought returning to the Qin family was a mistake he shouldn’t have made. Would it have been better to stay in Huayi instead and spend more time with his wife?

Thinking about how he made Adrienne feel sad and alone for the past few weeks made him feel a deep sense of regret and guilt. He couldn’t shake off the feeling that he had let down the person he loved most in this world. He should have stayed by her side, and yet...

If he hadn’t returned to the Qin family, he would have never known this betrayal towards him and his dead father. As he pondered his decision, he couldn’t help but wonder if staying at Huayi would have spared him from the heartbreak and betrayal he was now facing. However, deep down, he knew that uncovering his father’s death was necessary for his own growth and understanding.

As Lennox stormed out of the room, his grandmother wept softly into her hands, knowing that there was nothing she could do to make it right. She had made a grave mistake that cost her family dearly.

She knew that her actions had been selfish and misguided, but at the time, she truly believed she was doing what was best for her family. Now, as she sat alone with her thoughts, she realized just how wrong she had been.

Lennox, on the other hand, was filled with a sense of purpose. He knew he had to make things right, no matter the cost. He would honor his father’s memory by finishing the project he had started, and would do it the right way without taking unnecessary risks or endangering anyone’s life.
