Chapter 391: Digging More Secrets (2)

Lennox would rather not visit his grandparents, but since the business plan for his father’s old project was done, he needed to present it to his grandfather, who had the last say whether this project would push through. He was confident his plan would impress his grandfather and convince him to support the project.

Lennox and his team spent countless hours researching and planning, ensuring that every decision was well-thought-out and supported by evidence. He knew that his grandfather’s approval would validate his hard work and bring the project one step closer to becoming a reality.

When he received a signal from his grandfather to proceed, Lennox was over the moon and couldn’t wait to celebrate with Adrienne. After exchanging a few words with his grandfather, Lennox stepped out of his study, eager to give his wife a call.

He was about to go down the stairs when he met his grandmother. Lennox wasn’t close with her when he was younger, although she had quite a calm and gentle temperament. However, knowing that she had a hand in the accident that killed his father changed everything for Lennox. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

The sight of her now filled him with anger and suspicion, making it difficult for him to maintain a polite facade. Despite his inner turmoil, Lennox knew he had to confront his grandmother about the truth behind his father’s death before he could truly move forward with his life.

"I suppose everything went well with your meeting with your grandfather?" His grandmother smiled at him and said, "Would you mind accompanying this old woman for tea, Nox? I regretted not being here when you and your wife visited us."

Lennox stared at her for a moment and nodded.

Taking a deep breath, he replied, "Of course. I’d be happy to join you for tea."

The Qin family’s ancestral mansion was a grand, imposing structure with intricate architecture and beautifully landscaped gardens. Lennox couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe as he followed his grandmother through the ornate hallways towards the tea room. He knew that within these walls, he would uncover the secrets that had haunted his family for generations.

The interior was traditional, with richly colored tapestries adorning the walls and ornate wooden furniture. The air was filled with the scent of incense, adding to the mystical atmosphere of the mansion.

Lennox sat in the tea room while his grandmother served him a plate of sweets before brewing tea. He admired the delicate china cups and saucers that were carefully arranged on the table, and he could see that his grandmother paid a lot of attention to the art of making tea.

"I’ve seen your wife in pictures, and I could tell she’s quite a beauty, Nox. You should bring her here sometime for this old woman to see." His grandmother suddenly said, breaking the awkward silence between them.

"I’m sure Addie would love to meet you too, but not now. Everything’s just been so hectic lately with work. But I promise we’ll make a trip soon so you can finally meet her in person."

"That’s reassuring to hear, Nox." She smiled weakly as she poured him a cup of tea before sitting down across from him.

Lennox knew this was the best time to confront his grandmother and find out if Butler Cheng was telling him the truth about his involvement.

"There’s something I want to ask you, grandmother, and I want you to be honest with me."

His grandmother glanced at him from her cup and asked, "Ask away Nox."

Lennox hardened his jaw, wondering if he was ready to hear his answer.

"Is it true that Butler Cheng was feeding you my father’s plans and schedule before our accident?"

Her hold on her cup tightened slightly, her eyes flickering with a mix of surprise and concern.

After a moment of silence, she sighed heavily and spoke softly, "Nox, I never wanted you to find out this way."

Lennox shut his eyes and cursed inwardly. So Butler Cheng was telling him the truth.

"Why..." His voice cracked with a mix of anger and hurt. He struggled to keep his emotions in check as he continued, "Why would you betray my father like that? And why keep it a secret from me all this time?"

"It wasn’t my intention to kill him, Nox. Do you think it was easy for me? Your father was my son! Do you know how much it pained me when I heard your father die and how injured you were because of that accident?"

His grandmother’s hand trembled, forcing her to lower her cup on the table. Her eyes shone with tears as she looked at Lennox.

"You must be thinking how horrible a person I was. I killed my child."

"You can’t possibly think I will believe you didn’t mean all of it to happen. What pushed you to make that decision?" He demanded. Lennox’s voice quivered with anger and sadness as he confronted his grandmother.

The weight of his father’s death and his injuries had burdened him for years, and now he needed answers. "I need to understand why you made that choice, Grandma. What could have driven you to take such a drastic step?"

His grandmother’s eyes flickered with a mix of pain and regret.

"It wasn’t easy, Nox," she repeated. "Your father, he was so...stubborn. He refused to listen to anyone’s advice, not even mine." Her voice wavered slightly as she continued. "The project he was working on...it was too risky. I begged him to reconsider and think about the consequences of his actions. But he wouldn’t listen. He was so focused on success, on proving himself to the world."

"But that still doesn’t explain why you would go to such lengths," Lennox said, his voice softening slightly. "And I don’t believe that excuse. Someone must have told you to stop my father."

Lennox paused momentarily and tried to remember the Qin family’s situation before the accident.

"It was Uncle Henry, isn’t it? He asked you to stall or stop my father from presenting the project."
