Chapter 390: Digging More Secrets (1)

Hearing his grandmother’s involvement in the car accident made Lennox feel sick to his stomach. His grandmother had been passive and never participated or supported any of her children regarding the succession of the family business. His grandmother spent most of her time running the massive household of the Qin family and keeping the peace within the family with her gentle intervention.

Lennox wondered how she could do this to her son and grandson. Did she anticipate that the accident would take his father’s life, too? It was hard for him to take in, and Adrienne could see the pain he was feeling.

Lennox would always return to the Zhao family estate at night for the next few days to be with Adrienne. Even his mother-in-law noticed the sudden change on his part and commented on how he was silent and depressed these days.

"Is Nox alright, Addie? He seems so distant and lost," Rosemary asked Adrienne, concern evident in her voice. They were in a sitting room, seated on the wooden floors before a crackling fireplace. Adrienne sighed, her eyes filled with worry as she glanced at the flickering flames.

Adrienne sighed, unsure of how to answer. She knew Lennox was struggling to cope with the information he had just received. Butler Cheng willingly resigned, knowing his presence would only make Lennox uncomfortable.

"There’s a lot of things going on in the company, Mom, and it doesn’t help that Len is under great pressure from the Qin family." She admitted it to her mother.

"He lost a lot of weight recently," Rosemary commented, "and he seems more withdrawn than usual. I think the pressure from the Qin family is taking a toll on him. It’s concerning to see him like this."

Adrienne couldn’t agree more with her mother. She had also noticed the changes in Lennox, and it worried her to see him struggling. She knew that the added stress from the Qin family only exacerbated his already difficult situation.

"I do hope I can lessen the burden on his shoulders and take away some of his pain. It’s hard to see him like this, Mom." Adrienne confessed.

Lennox had been struggling since he found out about his father. It’s like a part of him had been shattered, and he was trying to piece it back together. Rosemary reached out and touched Adrienne’s shoulder, understanding the weight of Lennox’s pain.

"You have to be strong for both of you, Addie. Whatever happens, remember that your support and love can make a difference," Rosemary advised her daughter. "Being a wife means being there for your family in their darkest moments. Lennox needs you now more than ever, and I know you have the strength to help him through this."

Adrienne nodded, determined to be there for Lennox every step of the way. She knew it wouldn’t be easy, but she was willing to do whatever it took to help him through this difficult time.

"Would it be alright for us to stay a little longer here with you?" she asked her mother.

"Of course, Addie. You and Nox can stay as long as you need. We have plenty of space, and his siblings are quite charming. It’s livelier here since they arrived. " Her mother replied with a comforting smile on her face.

Adrienne felt a wave of relief wash over her, grateful for the unwavering support of her family. She knew that Lennox wasn’t ready to return home yet, and it might take some time for him to be okay.

When Lennox arrived that night, Adrienne noticed the heavy bags under his eyes and the tension in his shoulders. She greeted him with a warm hug, silently reassuring him that she was there for him.

Lennox rested his head on her shoulder, sighing with exhaustion and vulnerability. Adrienne held him tightly, understanding that sometimes the greatest comfort comes from simply being present for someone in their time of need.

"I’ve already completed the business plan for the project. How’s the lab going?" Lennox asked once they moved to the bed, with him resting his head on Adrienne’s lap.

She smiled and replied, "The lab is coming along well. We’ve made significant progress and are on track to meet our deadlines. I can’t wait for you to see it."

Lennox nodded, grateful for Adrienne’s dedication and support in his personal and professional lives. Adrienne’s taking over management of the new lab allowed him to focus on other important matters.

"So, is there something else I need to know, Addie?" Lennox asked, and Adrienne immediately understood what he was implying. She could see that he was wary if someone else was close to him who betrayed him.

"I want you to meet someone if you have time, Len. I don’t deem him a traitor, but he might have some insights he may want to share with you about your father.

Lennox covered his eyes with one arm and sighed. Adrienne sensed his frustration and knew he was tired of dealing with the complexities surrounding his father’s past. She reassured him, "I understand that this is overwhelming, Len. But meeting this person might provide some clarity and answers you’ve been searching for all along."

"I know what you mean, Addie. It’s just that I’m not sure how much betrayal I could handle if this person reveals things about my father that I never knew."

Adrienne nodded sympathetically, understanding the weight of Lennox’s fears.

"If you are uncomfortable meeting this person, you don’t have to meet him. What matters to me is your well-being. Perhaps we should get a vacation to break from all the stress and uncertainty once this is over." Adrienne suggested, hoping to offer Lennox some respite from the situation. "Sometimes a change of scenery can help clear our minds and provide a fresh perspective."

Lennox removed his arm to look at his wife.

"We are celebrating our first wedding anniversary soon. Should we plan something special to commemorate the occasion?" Lennox asked a hint of excitement in his voice. "Maybe we could book a romantic getaway or have a fancy dinner at that restaurant we’ve always wanted to try."

Adrienne smiled, seeing the excitement in Lennox’s eyes.

"That sounds like a wonderful idea," she replied. "A romantic getaway would be the perfect way to celebrate our first year of marriage. It’s been a while since I had a decent vacation trip."
