Chapter 363: I Have No Interest in You (1)

"Ayla is pregnant, Addie," Myrtle told her best friend. "It feels uncomfortable knowing I’ll have a niece or nephew from her."

Adrienne lifted her gaze only to see Myrtle’s conflicted expression. She knew that her friend’s relationship with the Han family had been strained because of her.

"Are you worried? Isn’t this what your grandmother wanted when she allowed your brother to marry Ayla?" She asked.

"Of course, I’m worried, Addie. I’m worried about the child. You know what kind of people my brother and his wife are. I’m worried about what kind of upbringing they will give the child, and it’s not like they will allow me to get involved with the child’s life."

Adrienne nodded sympathetically, understanding the weight of her friend’s concerns.

"It must be incredibly frustrating to feel helpless in this situation, especially when you genuinely worry about the child’s well-being. Is there anything you can do for their child?"

Myrtle shook her head. She heard the news of Ayla’s pregnancy from her mother. Even though Stella and Alistair didn’t get along well, the Han Matriarch asked her to look after his wife.

"Grandma asked my mom to look after Ayla until she gave birth to the child. But my mom is already overwhelmed with her responsibilities, and I don’t think she can look after Ayla."

"But Aunt Stella wouldn’t have any choice but to follow your grandmother’s order. I’m surprised Alistair was okay with this arrangement." Adrienne commented.

Unlike her, Ayla was able to get pregnant, but because she had suffered a miscarriage before, the Han family would ensure she wouldn’t lose Alistair’s child. The old woman knew how important it was for the family to have an heir and was determined to ensure Ayla carried the pregnancy to term. Despite Alistair’s initial hesitation, he eventually agreed to his grandmother’s plan, understanding the weight of their family’s expectations.

"I know; that’s why Mom is on the edge these days. I wish I could help her, but there is no way I will volunteer to take care of Ayla Jiang."

Adrienne chuckled. Of course, Myrtle would rather pretend Ayla didn’t exist than acknowledge her as her sister-in-law.

"Anyway, enough of this. It’s not like we can change anything. Let them deal with their own problems so long as they aren’t bothering you." She told Myrtle.

"Gavin and I are careful, Addie. I try my best not to get involved with them. I don’t want to give them a reason to come after us."

Adrienne returned the documents she just signed to Myrtle before saying, "I’m glad you and Gavin are getting along well."

"We’re good, Addie. Since Nox moved to Qin Motors, Gavin has been covering for him in Huayi. Gavin has been complaining about his doubled workload because he couldn’t find a trustworthy assistant to help him."

"Shouldn’t he ask for Kristoff’s help by now since he didn’t have any commitments recently?" Adrienne asked. She was curious why neither Lennox nor Gavin had reached out to Kristoff after the fall of Jiang Corporation.

Myrtle shrugged.

"I don’t know, Addie. I don’t ask Gavin anything about work. It would be better if I knew less about Huayi, so Alistair wouldn’t be able to get anything from me."

A knock on the door caught their attention. Lennox stepped inside Adrienne’s new office in Chiangshi and smiled at them.

"Oh, this is a surprise. You clocked out at work on time, Nox?" Myrtle laughed at her best friend’s husband.

Lennox smiled and walked towards them, patting Myrtle’s shoulder before giving his wife a kiss on the cheek.

"I promised to take Addie for dinner tonight to celebrate the opening of her new branch here in Chiangshi. Would you like to join us, Myrtle?" He asked Myrtle.

Myrtle shook her head. "As much as I want to, Nox, Gavin, and I already have some plans for tonight. I wouldn’t mind receiving some good stuff to eat."

Lennox laughed. "Alright. I can arrange that."

Myrtle bid them goodbye and left to return home, leaving the couple behind.

"I was half expecting you would cancel the dinner at the last minute," Adrienne admitted to her husband. She knew Lennox was forced to end his commitments today in order to get to see her tonight.

She stood up and wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him on the lips.

"I made a promise to you, Addie, so how could I break it and choose my work over you? No matter how busy I’m at work, I’ll drop everything for you."

Adrienne smiled, and her hands moved to the lapel of his jacket, feeling Lennox move to kiss her crown.

"I was worried that other women working there would try to seduce you. My husband is exceptionally handsome and smart. Many women would surely want to snatch you from me."

Lennox chuckled softly, his fingers gently brushing against her cheek. "Addie, you have nothing to worry about. No other woman could ever compare to you."

"I don’t know, Len," Adrienne said, lowering her head in shame. Knowing Ayla got pregnant reminded her of so many things about her past. Alistair claimed to love her, yet Ayla still managed to seduce him in her past life and became her husband’s other woman.

"Where’s this coming from, Addie? Have I done something to make you doubt my love for you?" Lennox asked, his voice filled with concern. "I chose you, Addie, and I will continue to choose you every single day. Are you worried that, just like Alistair, I would let another woman come between us?"

Adrienne trusted her husband, but she couldn’t trust other women that they wouldn’t make a move to Lennox.

"I know you love me, Lennox, and I trust you completely. It’s just that the situation with Ayla has made me more cautious about other women and their intentions towards our relationship." Adrienne replied, her voice tinged with vulnerability. "Even if you say you aren’t interested in them, that doesn’t mean they won’t try to vie for your attention. Some women can be persistent and relentless in their pursuit, especially if they see a chance to break us apart."

Lennox never thought Adrienne still had some insecurities in their relationship, despite the fact they would be celebrating their first wedding anniversary in a few weeks. He supposed he couldn’t blame her. She was married to Alistair for over ten years in her past life, yet he betrayed her by taking Ayla as his mistress.
